Arturo Vidal

I just think that the Vidal rumor was just rumor. We tried to push a deal for him but never reached anything even with 50M

Manchester United cannot attract top players like him, can't retain their best also with Pogba

While Woody is loosing time speculating on Vidal, Di Maria and co, our rivals are all signing players very quickly and improving their squad

Arturo Vidal would have been a top signing for us but we'll never get him, we'll have to cope with Fletch, Carrick and Fellaini

Did we sell Herrera?

Vidal earns £60k per week or something I think so I find it hard to believe he would not want £200k per week elsewhere considering money is important to so many players.

That's about £7m more per season although when you apply tax it might be less, I don't know.

Also, Vidal's agent will earn a large agent fee one would think.

Only 13 days to go and we can put this one to bed, tired of this transfer now it's gone on and on.

This is clearly not going to happen - even the reports from Chile and Italy have dried up. Its not happening folks, time to deal with that.

No he doesn't. He earns much more than that.

We will not cope with them........the Glazers must see this and must realise they will have to massively overpay to get someone in now. The longer we leave it, so long as we continue playing poorly, the more prices rise. I thought they were astute. Or are they really simply milking the club?

Apparently not, or we would have signed a decent midfielder 5 years ago.

We, somehow, still managed a league title in that time though. Now it has to be hitting home. We are so far off the pace.

How great was SAF, clearly looking back now he is imo the best manager ever.

For me, we are not weaker than Swansea. So our loss is psychological, we have these bad habits that seem to have formed from Moyes' regime shattering our confidence.

You can replace them with good habits but when immense pressure is put on you it is very easy to revert back to old ways, that's all that happened.

To me, if Louis van Gaal inherited SAF's team and that high level of confidence they had then he would have an easier job.

SAF is one of the best managers ever and arguably the best, that said, I think he did so brilliantly at United in his final season because he knew the club inside out, he knew the players in great depth so he knew who could do what and when, he also knew the league and the teams so well that his experience would give him an immense advantage as far as decision making is concerned.

I think he did excellent to win the league with the team that he did but if a manager like Louis van Gaal or Mourinho had been at a club for as long as SAF was so it was built to his exact specifications, and knew the players in great depth too and also he had that level of experience in the league, I think they might too be able to have won the league in 2013.

Vidal is good but he's no Rojo and Vermaelen. That's the type of talent the biggest club in the world is interested in.

Some very good points, but Arsene Wenger also has had that longevity and set the club up according to his specifications at Arsenal but hasn't achieved a third of what Sir Alex did in his career. It does take that little bit more.

Mourinho and LVG going by the career paths are short term managers, maybe something Ferguson has over them also.

Yes but then one could argue SAF might not be as successful as Mourinho doing what he did.

All I am saying is that we can look back and say 2013 was almost miraculous but actually it is understandable why the squad got the points they did, he simply squeezed as much out of them as he possibly could each game and even then many we only just edged because of RVP or Carrick's brilliance.

I think SAF was able to do that because he knew those players so well and he knew the league so well too, also the club had been built so the platform was there for him to do it, and I also think other managers (the absolute best) could also do that if they were operating within those conditions.

I'm not sure if Wenger is in the league of Mourinho or SAF.

I don't think the squad is as bad as people imply anyway but we do need additions. I think the confidence vanishes under pressure so Louis van Gaal must solve this psychological issue, we looked like Moyes' team when the pressure was on.

Exactly. If he's on 120k a week at Juve, and we offer him 40% more money, I doubt he's going to say no.

I just don't see us paying what Juve want for him.

Still holding out hope, but feck me this has been depressing. Must prepare myself for disappointment. :(

SHould I tell you that Bayern seem to look for another midfielder, too, since Thiago, Schweinsteiger and Martinez are injured and Kroos is out? And that one of the goals might be Vidal? Probably shouldn't :)

I've been confident of landing Vidal but my confidence is taking a serious beating. The only explanation for our dithering I can think of is that it's not dithering at all, the Louis has no interest in Vidal and wants Strootman and that he'll wait for his man and stick it out with Fletcher and Carrick, perhaps even Fellaini, until he can land Strootman.

Not the smartest move IMHO but Louis has the resume to do whatever the feck he wants.

Wow, this did come to a grinding halt didn´t it?
Ed has a knack of spoiling things late on! Brace yourselves Blind and De Jong are the next best thing..

I think I may have cracked where this deal is going to fall down.

Lol'd. In all seriousness if he goes on to miss most of the season with knee problem we'll look a bit silly for berating the board for not paying £50m.

Who says we can even land Strootman. The misconception on here is that because he is Dutch we will sign him. I'm sure Roma will want Vidal type money to even be tempted to sell. If we do not sign a few quality players in this window by January we could be sitting in 6th or 7th and be a very long shot for a top four finish. He might not even want to join a falling giant with no on field prospects.

For the money Roma are demanding for the Stroot we might as well buy Vidal.

Exactly and we should even be thinking along the lines of we'll buy Vidal and still will try for Strootman next summer for our champions league assault. Really build a quality squad with a lot of competition. Isn't this how big clubs with ambition are meant to be.
