why is this thread still going? there has NEVER been a serious link between us and signing him, NEVER.

seriously, all this does is make you all look complete tools.

Not sure what you mean by the last part really mate. Asking him to play as a holding midfielder would be restricting him to a role - the holding midfielder role. All that has been said is that a holding midfielder role doesn't get the best out of him. If you disagree that's fine but frankly I've not got the slightest doubt that he is best as a box to box #8.

And as has been said numerous times being able to play at right back, centre back or sweeper is not too relevant when talking about his best position. There isn't a person in the thread who is trying to portray Vidal as a limited player by saying he's better as a #8 than as a sweeper or right back. It's possible to recognise Vidal's versatility whilst being aware that he has a best position. In fact if you re-read my post I actually explicitly state that he could shield the back four, it's just a waste of his ability.

I'm aware that Pirlo plays for Juventus mate, the point stands that Vidal does not play as a holding midfielder. Whether it's Pirlo or Marchisio he plays ahead of both contributing offensively as a proper box to box midfielder. It's nothing like the role that is being discussed in this thread. Your comment that it's the same because both teams play 3-5-2 does not have much weight IMO considering the seperate versions of the system that are being used - which are significantly different - and Vidal's different role in both of those teams.

It's just a less extreme version of the Chile example, suggesting its the same because Chile and United play a 3-5-2 when for Chile Vidal played as a #10 ahead of two midfielders but here he would be playing as the deepest midfielder in the team.

Like I said most of the concerns that have been raised have been valid but perhaps slightly overplayed. I agree with the view that telling him to sit deep would be a waste - not because he can't do it before you respond - but because Vidal has much more to offer than that. If you sign the best midfielder in the world for £40-50million then we should be playing him in his best role IMO.

But I don't think it even needs to come to that because I think playing him next to Herrera as two box to box midfielders would be fine in a 3-5-2. There is enough defensive protection there to make that work and I don't see the requirement for a holder in those circumstances, particulalry if we push our line up 10 or so yards.
My point is that regardless of his offensive role, he contributes largely to defence, and he knows the 352 systems inside out(playing various defensive and offensive positions in different 352 systems) compared to our current crop, and those saying he might not fit it are daft.

To much noise, none of it coming from us or even England. So far it seems that it's just Chilean and Italian medias that keep on talking about it.
This whole Vidal thing has given these Chilean newspapers and journos a feck load of exposure that they otherwise wouldn't have got.

Will be a Bayern Munich player come Tuesday.

Benatia yes, Vidal no. Guardiola basically said he want a defender. His player should be tall, good in the air, good with the ball and cheap. He also said that they can forget about "cheap", because it is so late in the window.

Was at the Juve-Sg game yesterday. Vidal didn't played at all. Sat twiddling his toes in the dugout while his fellow substitutes were warming up. A sign of things to come?

Tevez didn't played either. Was planning my biggest boos for him. Damn.

He must be close to match fitness, no? How long has been training for now, it must be a fortnight now. He would surely be getting some small game time now

Didn't he only rejoin the team a couple of days ago though? So in reality we ain't too sure how intense his traing has been up until now. I'd say he's still a week or more away from match fitness.

Are there other players who sky bet aren't taking bets on?
If not, that is a rather telling sign IMO.

They are taking bets though, it's 1/10, but I see your point. It's not completely erroneous information but it doesn't mean that much. The markets just reflect public opinion so if we're linked heavily punters bet on it.

Bookies don't take big bets on these markets, and don't make that much money from them compared to pretty much anything else. The main reason they offer it is to keep punters using their site in the off-season. It's also used for marketing. How many times do we see 'Sky Bet suspend betting' type articles? It's cheap marketing for them.

sky bet are a joke...The bookies never have a clue who we are about to sign...They always release articles on certain sites about which players are odds on to sign for us in the hope that some idiot will fall for it and run down to the bookies to place a bet

I'm calling it now. We'll sign Blind this week and will go in for Vidal on deadline day. Juventus will quite rightly tell us to piss off for not leaving them enough time to land their targets and we'll do the "we tried for Vidal" story.

why are you all still here? Seriously!! if we wanted this player we would have signed him by now, but he is clearly out of our price range.

Has he played at all for Juve in pre season yet? Is he injured?

I just get the feeling that if we wanted him this would be done by now.
I said this sometime last week. I think we would have wrapped it up already if we were serious about this signing but I'll happily be proven wrong.

I mean LVG said he knows we need new players and in which positions. I'm sure he sees in which state is our midfield. If we're not interested in Vidal there's surely some other guy which Lvg wants to buy. But who...

There must be at least one of these fecking pointless posts per page in this thread. feck off!

Didn't it take us ages to sign Berbatov? Juve are playing hardball, and there's been no news so what. Doesn't mean we'd have got him by now.

Tbh it looks as though Juventus are doing the same to us. I hope this ends the same way as the Berbatov saga.
Same, I just think some people on here secretly don't want him so they can complain about the glazers and woody. Or they have no life and transfer muppetry is some kind of thing to them...

The only pointless posts are from those that believe/believed this was going to happen. Pure fantasy since day one.

If you all start discussing your next favourite midfielder on here, you'll magically see us being linked within days. That's how the papers work now, you create the stories and they give it to you. They only want the hits, factual reporting went out of the window years ago.

I don't know how you can say that.

Vidal specifically said he was aware of our interest in one of the Chilevision interviews a month or so back. Some of the most reliable journos have said we are interested and LVG didn't take his chance to say there's nothing in it, during the press conference the other day.

Vidal said he's aware of the links ie. what the press were saying, or something to that effect. You can't read into Van Gaals comments either way, he didn't want to discuss transfers at all.

Tomorrow is Vidal day.

Come on Ed you cnut. You cannot escape the responsibilty of tomorrow by evading it today!
