Arturo Vidal

So this should now be the biggest muppet thread in terms of replies, right? I can't find the Berbatov thread.

Personally, I think we should pay what it takes to sign him, providing his knee is fine. He would make such a difference.

A sentence in that paragraph says a lot. Herrera is our only new signing who will play tomorrow.

So would Bayern swoop in for Vidal? I know that they are not like for like players but if they feel that they have a midfield shortage why not go for Vidal when it seems like its possible to get him? I know that they had issues with him not signing for them in the past but doesnt mean that they could go for him.

Its just wild speculation on my part but I believe that if they did want him Bayern would've had it done swiftly like how its supposed to be for a big club most of the time.

They played Martinez CB and are looking for a defender now, I think.

30 million plus players I would go with.. But its the world we live in I suppose.. A world where Gareth Bale is more expensive than CR7....
I just think that 70 mill is too much considering the worries about his knee

Gareth Bale is the first to acknowledge he is not on CR7s level although a brilliant player. Just because Madrid wanted him so badly and Levy is a right c*ntish negotiator they had to pay what they did. Unfortunately the best players cost a lot, add the fact if the buying club wants said player so badly and they have a long contract then you pay high or you do not get. Simple really.
I'm not bothered about his knee as surely an extensive medical on the suspect knee would be done prior to any transfer. People keep mentioning Hargreaves passed his medical but he had not had a knee injury prior to signing him, he had a leg break so I guess that medical was more routine. Obviously I'm just speculating but I'm sure we would look at his knee thoroughly.
The most blatantly obvious fact is we need more than Herrera to make our midfield capable of challenging for titles. Carrick is 33 and injured for 3 months, Fletcher is coming off his first pre season in 3 years and looking decent but he is not a great player. Cleverley is bang average, no one will convince me otherwise and Fellaini has his attributes but do they fit LvG style of play, the man is very sluggish and best used off the striker in my opinion. No coincidence he did his best work for Everton in that position.
Anyway if not Vidal we need someone, are we to believe there are not better midfielders out there than what we have - I highly doubt it. Waiting for Strootman like that's a 'done deal' is also shite, who's to say he will even want to join us and more importantly recover himself from a much more serious knee injury.

It's funny that even the British Journo's are now coming round to the fact that Vidal is actually a target.

I still do believe it'll happen, I think we wanted to wait until he played a few pre season friendlies to make sure he was 100% OK. I also think Woodward want's a big transfer deadline day deal. He seems that type who likes the hysteria and steals the headlines.

Vidal + Di Maria on deadline day?

Was thinking this myself this morning.

Has he even played yet, I don't think so. They have one game left on tour and not sure if any other preseason fixtures before Seria A kicks off 30th August.

Those two would be muppet p0rn although I'd happily just take Vidal who I believe we need more than Di Maria, especially as our new number 11 will shine this season if given the chance.

I'd assume it's just Allegri's quotes from yesterday.

if it was real news they'd report it now. they're just angling to generate viewers for the noon broadcast. nothing to see here

Wouldn't they have reported that in the morning rather than wait until noon?
Not really, they do this a lot! It's to try make views stay tuned or tune back in around noon. I remember a view transfer windows back on deadline day they said "coming up after the break news on a potential Manchester United signing", when they came back they had absolutely nothing on United, didn't even mention us!! They can be as bad as twitter itk's sometimes.

Yeah, that's bullshit. Clubs don't tend to sign players simply because of an injury to one of their players (unless it's a very serious one). The idea of Bayern splashing out £40-50m to replace a player who's injured for a few months is ludicrous.
The fact that Bayern would replace a injured CB with a CM makes it even more ludicrous.

Probably going to rehash yesterday's Allegri quotes. Nothing to see.

I agree. Just SSN boosting their midday viewing figures.

Anything "breaking" would be divulged straight away in order to be first.

They've got to corroborate with the 5 ITK accounts they follow on Twitter, sorry their "Sky Sources", before going live with it.

We are just too muppet for them, aren't we? Whereas they give reports to those that didn't quite catch the little pieces of news, we pick up these things when they happen within the minute!

15th of August two weeks to go and nothing happening in Ed´s space!
We need a winger,CB and a CM, Ed needs to get something going and quick!

So they're going to report the quotes at noon, keeping people watching for over an hour. Obvious rouse is obvious.

we don't play wingers? why do we need a winger? like we have 3 CBs so we NEED a cb, but I don't get the idea that we need a winger, unless it's implied that we NEED to switch formations

I totally agree mate, I was just genuinely referring to the market as regards the CR7 V Bale issue.. I suppose its the proverbial "rock and a hard place" (KIND OF).
We need a world class midfielder but wont be held to ransom over it..
Which is why I think Woody is doing a good job (if there are Vidal negotiations going on), if we start paying way over the odds, we will become a Madrid type club.
But I can see that its a double edged sword, if we dont pay over the odds, we dont get the quality players we need...

They've done worse in the past. On Transfer Deadline Day 2011, during the whole Sneijder transfer saga, they blatantly came out and said "We have some very very exciting news for you if you're a Manchester United fan - stay tuned we'll bring you the news very soon". That was the last they said of it. They got peoples hopes up and kept them watching for absolutely nothing.

If it was any news that was breaking or actually massively important, they'd break it straight away. Chances are, as people have said, it's the quotes from yesterday, or their "sources" understand something or other. Did they say bad news for United regarding Vidal, or just bad news regarding Vidal?

I guess he means wingback, maybe he doesn't trust Young/Valencia/Rafael. But i do agree we seriously need a CB and a world-class CM would be very nice because we have tons of bodies there at the moment, but none of them that great.

he's not coming

we haven't even made an actual bid have we? if we were interested why wouldn't we have bid by now?

there are 3 possible scenarios I see

1. we're not in for him
2. we are interested, made an enquiry, got quoted a price, are gonna hold off and offer much less
3. 2 involving a complicated deal with Nani and or Chicharito (which I find unrealistic)

I'd say 1 is most likely

I'm giving up - good luck muppets

Yeah I know sorry I just went off on a little rant in reply. My bad.

It is tough for Woody but that's his job unfortunately - he cannot afford two seasons of negative fan response. He doesn't help himself mind and I know we have signed two players but when we lose five and probably needed four top additions anyway, he is now under some serious pressure.
Personally for me LvG currently does not have the required tools at his disposal in what is becoming an increasingly more competitive league. 4th place will be a stretch again imo unless some top quality is signed.

When you hear "Sky Sports Understands", you know its complete bollox!!!

My thoughts exactly.. A lot of folks are saying top 4 is a shoe in but im not so sure.. We need afew more players to have a proper challenge.. Id be over the moon with top 4 obviously

I keep reading about Hargreaves knee, but surely he would have passed a stringent medical. After all, the insurance company wouldnt pay out if they thought it was a pre-existing condition?
