I think the captains armband at Arsenal these days signifies you are on the transfer list. Cesc, RVP, Vermealen.

Fully expect Arteta to be sold next summer!
He'll 33/34 next year so I wouldn't be surprised of he left.

I'm not on a wind up or anything but at Juventus training session in Sydney Vidal signed around 5 United Jerseys near where my mate was sitting and when he asked if his coming to United Vidal laughed. Doesn't mean his coming but thought i would give you muppets a glimmer of hope.

Good enough for me to

Does he speak English? If not he was probably just awkwardly laughing because he didn't know what they said.

I'll say! I bet you could find countless examples of non-playing voice captains (not that signing Vidal would mean Fletcher can't get a game). It's not even that unusual for a club captain to not play.
Exactly. People panicking cause Fletcher has been made vice captain is ridiculous.

What kind of a laugh was it?!

Not sure but even if he doesn't speak English he would know the word United by now. :)

Why would Fletcher being made Vice-Captain mean we won't sign another midfielder?

We might not sign another CM but if we don't it will have feck all to do with Fletch being VC.

Isn't it obvious that Van Gaal is being diplomatic and not playing favourties with the captaincy. He just went with the two most senior members of the squad. Rooney & Fletcher just happen to be the only 2 players who have been at United 10+ years.

Coincidence? I think not.

Well said. There's some whopping posts in this thread.

:drool:It's ArturON thanks for that info that's painted a positive picture in my head:devil:

van Gaal needs two class wingers to play 4-3-3; we have only one so we play 3-5-2. Bring in Di Maria and we now have 2, so we revert to 4-3-3. Di Maria would play left I'd imagine, Januzaj right, or vice versa.

But that leaves only 1 striker in that formation..

Purchase Real Madrid's best performing player of last year for huge fee.

Play him as a wingback. That logic.

Maybe Van Gaal prefers to use wingers in the WB positions in his formation? Look at how much of a different player Young looks, and just 2 months ago we would have laughed the suggestion of playing him in the position off the Caf.

Di Maria is far too good to play wing back. It's one thing playing Ashley Young there and another one of the best players in the world right now. It's total wasted talent.

I also don't think Young will keep up this form throughout the season - he's been very good for you in pre-season but so have numerous terrible players for us who I have no doubt will settle back in to mediocrity once the real season starts. I'm sure Di Maria would do a job there as he's hard working but I'm not sure he'd want to join in the first place to play wingback when he could go elsewhere and be instant first choice in midfield (his favored position).

Anyway, I'll keep the rest of this discussion in the Di Maria thread.

Of course he knows the words 'Manchester United' For one, he's fluent in awesomeness, secondly he needs to be able to spell them correctly for his tattoo artist.

In which case we have one spot for a striker (we have four) and no spot for no 10 (we have two). Bringing Di Maria will only make the squad unbalacanced even more, IMO it won't happen this summer.
And we still don't have the midfield for 4-3-3.

I guarantee people said the same thing when Madrid moved Di Maria central from the wing, and look how that turned out.

If LvG thinks it will work, I'd be more inclined to trust his judgement over your speculation.

I'm not saying we'll even sign him, but if we do it's because we have a firm plan for him.

More Vidal talk please.

The only reason why LVG will not want Vidal is if he doesn't think Vidal will follow his tactical instructions given his age and superstar standing.

Again I read United preparing bid for Vidal and other players. Is Ed counting the notes out 1 by 1 or WTF is going on?

He's constructing an interesting and intricate 3D representation of the Turin Shroud, using the notes, to impress the Juve hierarchy. You have to give the bloke time. He's an artist ffs

That's bullshit, he already praised him in an interview and Vidal is very adaptable and a true teamplayer on the pitch. The only reason this won't get through if Van Gaal wants him is his knee or us not willing to pay.

But is this a new pic?

Yes, and he played Kuyt at WB in the World Cup
