We will not be paying upwards up of 50 million for Di Maria. He is not worth that much regardless.
 
The fact Fletcher has been named Vice-Captain when, if Vidal came, he would be the most likely player dropped from the first XI. Shows that we were probably not interested in Vidal as per the stories.
 
Fletcher named vice-captain. We wont be signing another midfielder.

The fact that fletcher has been named VC is indicative of him getting significant playing time.
A midfield 2 of Herrera and fletch (with mata ahead of them) is definitely not as strong as the other top four midfields.
It will be very challenging for us not to mention if Herrera picks up and injury our midfield will be extremely weak ...again.

LVG has mentioned more than once that if he wants to play a 433 he will need new players.
Then he mentioned Di Maria by name.

Di Maria can play RW, LW and AM equally well.

Fletcher being named vice captain would indicate that LVG sees him as a big part of his plans. Can't see us spening £50 odd million on a player to replace his new vice captain.

You didn't answer my question though. Where are you playing Di Maria? The Van Gaal comments about 4-3-3 are irellevent unless you're telling me that one of Mata, Van Persie or Rooney will be dropped to play the system.

If I had to guess I'd say it would look like this:

Rooney-rvp-Di Maria
Herrera-mata-fletch/carrick.

Where mata is the CAM.

It's strange RVP wasn't named as a vice as he is the Dutch captain and lvg knows him very well, maybe he feels Robin is injury prone and needs to be rotated?

Rvp hasn't been at the club long enough and perhaps he think it's best to have an English VC as well...or just a VC who is senior.
I really like the appointment of Fletch as VC, hope he can stay healthy!
 
Cocks in lads, Fletcher being named vice captain as good as confirms were not interested in Vidal. He obviously expects him to play many many games this season. The only hope is that since Rooney will be captain he expects him to play most games and foe there to be a back up for Fletcher so he can rest.

Even then that's more likely to be Blind.

Pretty annoyed at this.

Seriously is that the only reason you think it's cocks in? Means utterly nothing. Just because he has been here a while. Even if Fletcher was 3rd choice behind Vidal and Herrera it's still a lot of minutes.
 
If we lowball all our transfers:

59m paid for Herrera and Shaw.
16m for Rojo
15m for Blind
50m for Di Maria

That's 140m spent with no outgoings, never in a million years would we do that. Unless we give Juve Hernandez, Nani and 30 odd million IF we're lucky. I'd be happy for that though.

We might not sign another CM but if we don't it will have feck all to do with Fletch being VC.

Isn't it obvious that Van Gaal is being diplomatic and not playing favourties with the captaincy. He just went with the two most senior members of the squad. Rooney & Fletcher just happen to be the only 2 players who have been at United 10+ years.

Coincidence? I think not.

I don't think we are getting Vidal BUT Fletcher being vice captain means nothing, There is Carrick still to come back remember.
Imo it just means that Fletcher will be captain in the second string games, the games we play in early cup rounds or when we are resting Carrick, Herrera, Rooney or....Vidal.

Wow, lol you need to work on judging the tone of peoples posts where have you gotten that from my posts? I am not at all bothered by twitter bullshitters. In your last post you said i was taking things too seriously also when i clearly do not.

Originally i simply pointed out to someone else that the twitter blacklist only applies to the twitter thread, you then started this conversation which you seem to be misreading completely.

It's only been talked about in whispered voices, but transfer window hibernation is something that really appeals. Completely unplug from the entire thing until 3 September, spend the summer in Canada, and get a squad sheet and DVD with the matches you missed. I could probably have designed a submarine in the time I've spent worrying about Vidal & Woodward.
 
Isn't Friday the deadline for us to put in a bid for Vidal? Of course the money would be helpful for Juventus but not when they can't sign a replacement for him.

Captain is more important off the field imo and don't have to play every game, we are actually a good example of this, we have rotated captains due to injury etc many times, Evra, Vidic, Rio, VDS used to rotate it all the time.
