Arturo Vidal

Ts"vidal knows perfectly that #mufc Inquired about him before WC&#mufc might offer juve contract that's hard to refuse, but for now no offer

I suspect we enquired about a couple of dozen players before the WC. If that's all we did with Vidal, it's consistent with what happened next. Vidal's agent trying to drum up interest. Juventus making flirtatious, "He's not for sale, but..." remarks.

It does make you wonder who the real midfield targets are/were though. Unless it really is the classic Dutch auction - we sit and watch the clock as the price falls.

He gave his interview after the season ticket renewal this time :)

I have never been the biggest fan of the Glazers and I don't think it's beyond them to have a few stooges on bigger message boards like this to defend their policies and that's why I don't tend to get involved in the Glazer debates here or anywhere on the internet anymore. But whatever their policy was, it had worked upto last summer without them having to spend too much, and with us being competitive the fans didn't care much either. This summer and the next(if we get back into CL) will tell me what their actual intentions are, uf they really want us to compete with the likes of Real/Barcelona or if they are just happy to keep it going as long as the club is making enough money for them.
They don't exactly act like they're trying to take over the world, do they?

Personally I would want to take the chance, football is growing like never before and money is such a decisive factor im football.

But then perhaps that would put us at risk and they figure to play it a bit slower.

Of course it stacks up when every bit of evidence since their arrival supports the idea they aren't interested in competing in the transfer market with the likes of Barca/Madrid/City/Bayern/Chelsea whom we are supposed to be competing with on the pitch. Yes a clubs success will help them make money but if you told the Glazers they could spend £150m and win the league or spend £75m finish top 4 and pocket the other £75m for themselves we're finishing top 4. People who are set on defending the "business" model is all good and well but that comes at a cost because we compete vs teams who have owners that don't get involved for profit and actually cost themselves huge amounts of money simply for success. You only need to look across the pond at what the Glazer's have done with their other sports franchise to see how fecked we are long term with them as owners.

Shaw and Herrera should have been signed last summer and their respective ages makes it a smart investment rather than sign of owners being willing to splash money for a championship winning team. Incredible to think of how far we've fallen that people are actually giving them credit for making these signings. They're parasites on United and I don't know how long or what it'll take for the some fans to realise it.

What top class players have we targeted that hasn't come off? Bidding pennies for Fabregas made us look like fools and every time season tickets need renewed Woodward gives an interview talking about being willing to break world records or leak rumours of bringing Ronaldo back neither happen of course.

The Glazers have been parasites on United. That much is definitely true.

I don't agree with your assessment of what they've done with their NFL franchise though. They handed out the richest contract in NFL history at the time for a cornerback (Darrelle Revis) and traded 2 first round picks to get him. In fact last summer they spent quite a bit of money in a bid to make the playoffs. That didn't pan out and they ate the long-term contract for the coach and fired him as well followed by cutting or trading for pennies on the dollar many players they had handed lucrative contracts just a year earlier.

I mean feck the Glazers as a United fan, but Bucs fans I can assure you have no beef with the Glazers' ownership and spending habits.

I think Woodys getting ready to pull the trigger on this soon, you can just sense it in the air. Keep the faith guys, he's just teasing us!

What level is the WillVidalSign meter at today? Anything new recently?

So what? The club shouldnt be buying players who are not physically reliable - whoever they are. The board has a resposibility to act prudently in terms fo the clubs long term future. Wasting money on a player who has to be replaced in a year (whilst still being paid a mega sum of wages every week) is not a good position for the club to be in. There is money to spend - and that money should be spent on the right players who can pefrom at their best for the club and bring success on the pitch.

If a player has a long standing injury then a) he wont be the same player that the club wanted in the first place and b) he might not be available a lot of the time. Signing that player makes no sense from either a footballing or financial point of view.

Vidal is a great player - as he was pre-injury. This injury may be nothing to worry about and he might still be that player. But there is a risk that he might not be, so I personally think its sensible for the club to check it out thoroughly before they commit.

The Vidal situation is not much different from Strootman but it seems to be accepted that we'll be in for Kevin come January.

Even united fans shouldn't have any beef with the spending habits, only the fact that they are bleeding us dry in the process.

It would be very pointless going for Strootman in January. Roma won't sell and Strootman won't be in a hurry to leave just because Van Gaal comes calling pretty sure he'd want to help Roma win the title.

???????? I think many would disagree with that. The fact they are bleeding us dry has meant they haven't spent a fraction of what they should have done since they arrived.

Parasites.

You're making assumptions not based on fact. I obviously dont know what the Glzaer's think, and neither do you - but spending £30 million on a teenage defender is a statement of intent. You can talk about sell on values all you like, that only comes off if and when a player actually turns out to be any good.

The point I'm making is that whilst they clearly havent wanted to compete with the bigger clubs in terms of transfers in the past - times have changed and its patently obvious that with all the money in football, you need to spend big in order to be succesful. They dont have Fergie anymore, succeeding despite being hamstrung in the transfer market. To me the noise from the club is that they can, when required compete for the big players.

You can refer to the owners of clubs who are not in it for the profit - I assume you're referring to the likes of Chelsea and City. Whilst I have no problem with how they do things I'm happier with the way United go about things. Its more sensible long term and ensures that the club has a solid and stable future. The fact that we're so far ahead in terms of finances the future we can compete with the top clubs.

I'm no Glazer apologist, and I understand why people dont like them. At the end of the day, how much is invested in the future will show how serious they are. The signs so far are encouraging in terms of the money that has been spent on these particular players without question and hopefully others follow soon.

But here, in this instance to blame the lack of top class signings solely on the Glazers position in the past is, for me lazy and naive. The reality is that we've got a manager who has very particular ideals about what, and who he wants and has only been in the job a matter of weeks. We're also trying to rebuild from a position of relative weakness (in comparison recent seasons at least) in terms of attracting players.

Both of these are as likely as reasons why the rebuild has slowed as suggesting its down to the Glazers not allowing the club to spend.

Considering we've won about 10 major trophies since they took over in 2003 (I think?), we haven't really massively needed to spend big. However there's no more Fergie, and Moyes has shown how hard it is to come in to a club like United and do well with a team that only a world class manager could manage in Fergie! Van Gaal needs to change stuff and get in players that will suit his system. Rojo would be a good start but I hope we can aim a bit higher than that. Vidal would obviously be lovely but I know for a fact we'll struggle in the centre of defence without another signing beside Rojo (if he's even coming that is).

We'll prepare the bid on the 16th, then submit the bid on the 20th.
We will prepare the bid on the 16th, say some big words on the 20th, then submit a cheap bid on the 31st and ultimately end up signing Blind for £27m.

This Metro article today appears to confirm this...

A cheeky fan managed to get Arturo Vidal to sign his Manchester United shirt.
Vidal has been continually linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer but a deal has yet to materialise.
However, that didn’t stop one Red Devils supporter from getting the playmaker to autograph his shirt during Juventus’ pre-season trip to Australia.
United fans will also be pleased to see the Chilean allegedly refusing to sign a top belonging to cross-city rivals Manchester City during the session at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.

Everyday I come home from work and put SSN on hoping to see the yellow banner saying he is having a medical.

I should stop doing this to myself.

They took over in 2005. The success we've had in their time has been in spite of them - they haven't contributed in anyway, in fact, I would say our success would have been greater had we not been subject to their ownership model. What they have got away with has been criminal.

What a ridiculous statement

Time and time again Fergie stated that he looks for value in the transfer market, and time and time again he has improved our team with young players. We've never needed to spend huge amounts of money on single players, and the only times we have they mostly worked out brilliantly - and even Ferdinand and Rooney were just long term investments if you like.

'Allegedly'? Doesn't confirm anything  they've just heard the rumour too.
There's pics of him signing a man utd shirt somewhere in here, and another pic of him looking the other way when a City shirt is put in front of him. Hardly means he refused to sign it though.
