So guys can someone explain to me how a team that had a midfield containing this guy, the great Pirlo and Pogba failed to get out of their CL group?

People wouldnt blink an eye if we signed Pogba and Him for 100m combined. So Im just wondering, what went wrong.
Can you explain why the mighty Manchester United didn't get out of an easy group two years ago when we were in the final of the same competition the year before that? Shit happens.

I did wonder this when I saw how attacking he is.
Bearing in mind Mata is 100% attack, and Herrera has spent a lot of time as a 10 as well!
He's only that attacking when he plays in that further forward, attacking position. He's equally capable of playing a more conservative defensive role. He's the ultimate all-rounder.

It doesn't matter if you are chasing a game or defending a narrow lead, he can play either and allows the manager to make substitutions elsewhere.

And who in the summer after that season was wanted for 60m plus?

Juve have 2 guys who people would pay silly money for.

Would he fit into a team that also has Herrera and Mata?

Indeed, it's a little gung-ho in a 4-3-3.

Vidal is extremely versatile, but I would hate us to sign him and then confine him to a deeper, more cautious role. You really want to give him the freedom to break forward and press high up the pitch, not confine him to a holding position - though he could do it. It would just be a waste.

If we signed Vidal then I would play 3-5-2 in which case there would be no issues with a Vidal - Herrera - Mata midfield trio. With an extra centre back there wouldn't be the same requirement for a holding midfielder, freeing Vidal up to press high and play his normal game.

I'm pretty sure the pitch for the final game against Galatasaray was fecked and they could barely play football on it. I think they lost 1-0 and went out.

Besides, shit happens.

This. We failed to qualify the groups on 2011-2012 only a few months after we reached UCL final, despite having players like Rooney and Vidic at their best in our team.

Ignore two sheds. He was banging on about how Ronaldo played no part in Real Madrids champion league success and all his goals weren't important a few weeks ago in the World Cup section.

What's happening with the newbs at the mo, seems a lot of them are being promoted with 10 likes and only 100 posts, is it getting easier?

In my view, we're so far away from signing Vidal, let alone being interested in him, that I find posts related to him amusing.

Random muppet hope
Ta....thought so but..... was just checking... cos some people seem very convinced were going to sign him....

I wouldn't write off the Vidal rumours. Gazzetta are fairly reliable when it comes to Juventus. And James Ducker wrote this in the Times yesterday:

Having completed a near-£60 million spending spree, Van Gaal remains in the market for a central defender — he has an interest in Thomas Vermaelen, Arsenal’s Belgium defender — and at least one more midfield player, with United’s hierarchy prepared to sanction a statement purchase.

Dont know if he's alluding to Vidal but he also said we are monitoring him.

Gazzeta is reliable with Juve but they also post a lot of rumours. On the same article they mention that we are interested for him, it also mention that Atletico Madrid is interested too (unless they sell Vincente Calderon I don't know how they will have the money for it). I live in Italy and look at times on their news, but there aren't that much news for him. I guess that now after World Cup, we'll definitely see if there is anything on it.

Few of the reports say we have "tentative bids" in for Vidal, testing the waters.

Indykalia says we have a bid, but he's unsure what position Calderon plays in.

My favourite part is when his wage offer goes up £20000 per week in the space of a couple of sentences.

Di Marzio's just said Juve haven't received any offers and him leaving isn't a possible scenario at the moment.

We must get Vidal. We've bought Herrera who is pretty similar to Vidal in the sense that he too can attack and defend in equal capacity. But, Vidal is at the peak of his powers now. No midfielder is as complete as him. Ol' Fergie has been laying the groundwork for a couple of months me thinks... Picture taken in April.

Woodward will elevate himself to God like if he signs Vidal

This.

So far in this world cup. Vidal has been the player that I have admired the most. Would love him at United.

Nani could be very important in the deal if we are to sign Vidal.

Because of the rumours and the fact the that Van Gaal seems to rate him. Why wouldn't we be interested?
becuase he seems very happy at juventus, juventus are currently more successful then us so is unlikly to want to leave, juventus are very unliky to want to sell, if by some miracle he did become on the market every club on the planet would be interested, and he would easily fetch 50 million +, and thier are clubs in a lot stronger bargaining positions than us this summer.

im sure Van Gaal does rate him, every manager in his right mind would rate him, dosnt mean he is delusional enough to think where going to sign him.

That's not entirely accurate mate, they have a number of reasons to offload some of their most valuable players including Vidal. Despite Juventus' recent success, they've suffered a lot of financial problems and debt of €160.3m. Just last season they recorded a loss of €15.9m on the back of increasing operational costs despite recordbreaking revenue (which is unlikely to grow by much commercially given Serie A's fall from grace and the relatively saturated Italian broadcasting market). Juventus have been trying to manage their rising wage bills for quite some time now, evinced by the release of Lucio in 2012. If they intend to keep their younger core intact (especially Pogba who's in a contract negotiation year), they will have to sell Vidal who's their most valuable playing asset and can induce a bidding war from other teams.

That was never your original question, you asked if we were interested, it silly to think we would not be in for him if he's willing to leave.

I can see Vidal leaving, it's either him or Pogba. The media in Italy have been linking Vidal with a move for a few months now, it just depends if the teams interested are willing to pay what Juve want and how keen he is on leaving. Juve want money to buy players, so selling one of their players seems to be part of their plan.
