Arturo Vidal

 Ironically, i was gonna use that term in commas aswell - to be sarcastic of course..

Finishing 7th means we now require one. Hopefully Vidal is excited by our "project", by which I mean a great manager who suits his pressing style in Van Gaal, and a shitload of cash, bordering on the obscene.

Seems the modern foreign player is attracted to that term regardless of how shit the club actually are. Reckon Salford FC could get the attention of quite a few top players if they used that term..

As regards to Vidal - if we spunk a load of money at him - he'll be well interested.

And lets face it - Rooney's on £300k per wk ffs, and he hasnt a patch on a player like Vidal - even when Rooney was in his prime - 4 years ago..

Van Gaal will go through him for a short-cut to get him back to that standard. Not sure Rooney is physically able to after years of abuse - Ricky Hatton Syndrome is the term i use..

Didn't we all establish Rooney is only of 300k a week after all bonuses and fees from his sponsors?

All brilliant, but Vidal is simply the best all round midfielder in the world. Pretty much does everything well.[/QUOTE]
Modric
Said that myself man.

If we get one - we've a great chance of gettin both. 2 close friends playing for the same top-3 club in the world & both love a fight / challenge. United is perfect for those fellas - everyone hates us & we dont give a flying f*ck either..
Surely Sanchez can join him at Juve then, the mates will play in the CL together.

Why on God's green earth would Juventus like to sell Vidal?

Old article:

The Pogba case continues to make top lines of Italian newspapers. A new development Wednesday: Sell Vidal to keep Pogba.

According information from the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday, leaders of Juventus are preparing to sell this summer midfielderArturo Vidal for an amount of € 40 million to enable them to keep the French international,Paul Pogba, so precious for the Old Lady.

Vidal could rebound in a big Liga club, Barca or Real Madrid who have expressed interest in the player.

Didnt get that memo to be honest man..

His sponsors are separate from the club. Its reported he signed a £300k per wk deal with United, so thats his wage from us, as far as i can see..

He's on £300k per week. But a huge chunk of that is from a special image rights deal which gives him a much bigger percentage of the sponsorship money he brings in than your average player, because he brings in so much more than any other player on our books. So it is part of his United deal, but the money isn't coming from the United coffers. Ronaldo has a similar deal at Real.

The two mates can get paid shitloads of money playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world, managed by one of the best managers in the world fresh from a 5-1 drubbing of the world champions with an average dutch side. They can play in a side that could actually win the champions league and so much more.So WTF not.

Rant Over.

I would be happy with Vidal and Vermaelen but no wingers, although we do need a winger I would rather Vidal. Nani, Valencia, Zaha, Januzaj and then Welbeck + Kagawa too would be good enough out wide for the coming season.

Shaw - £30m
Hererra - £30m
Vidal - £50m
Vermaelan - £10m

About - £120m. We could offset that by £30m - £40m I think by selling players and also reducing the wage bill due to some high earners leaving.

I think Vidal will sign for Real Madrid though, Ancelotti will play him and Modric in front of Xabi Alonso with Ronaldo and Bale as the wingers and Suarez up top.

If we can get either Vidal or Kroos...

Herrera and Kroos will make a very unbalanced midfield IMO and won't work unless we play a DM with them (which means that one of our forwards won't play). Herrera and Vidal on the other hand sounds very good.

I agree. But I was imaging a 3 man midfield consisting of Herrera, Fellaini and Kroos in midfield. Fellaini is not as bad he looks so far. He was playing with an injury after a big money move to the league winners as the only signing. He had high pressure on him. Kroos is a master at recycling the ball. His passing game is sublime.

Whereas if we get Vidal it can be Vidal, Herrera and Carrick in midfield. Carrick is getting old, but if he can get back to his 12/13 form - he'll be alright.

I am guessing it will be a 3 man midfield because van Gaal (as far as I know) plays with three men in midfield. He preferred 433 before, and currently he is playing 532 with Holland.

Correct - does all this irrational hate from a certain section of the "fans" stem from jealousy? and he's not the highest paid player on the books

He prefers 433 but one of three midfielders is usually a No.10. So, I guess it is Carrick, Herrera and Rooney/Mata (obviously Carrick can be replaced with a new signing).

I don't think that there is any chance at all that Fellaini will ever become a starter at us. He is a good player as a No.10 (from a point of view) but as a midfielder he isn't much better that what he has shown that year. His best games for Everton have been as a No.10 and you can see that even with Belgium he plays as a No.10 with manager making players that naturally are more advanced play deeper than him (De Bruyne). I hope that I am wrong but sooner we realize that we completely fecked up with him, the better.

Anyway, I thnk that while both of Herrera and Vidal are box-to-box midfielders, both of them are very good defensively and IMO can create a solid partnership in midfield, with Mata being our main playmaker.

Wait, you've just said that you haven't really looked into it at all, so "as far as I can see" basically means "as reported in the tabloids" doesn't it.

As far as I can see, it comes from a combination of a number of things. Chiefly, 1: Hysterical scapegoating. The team is seen as not as good as it once was and someone needs to be blamed, goddamnit! 2: The Caf's saturation with football hipsterism. Saying that an English player is actually world class, that a United player is genuinely brilliant, or that Rooney is still good are seen as somehow naive. 3: Believing everything the media says. Rooney sells papers. Rooney controversy sells even more papers. As a result, the sports section is perpetually full of Rooney controversy. While all caftards will agree till the cows come home that the sports media is full of shit and makes most stuff up, they will all immediately forget this the second the Daily Star decides that Rooney has fallen out with the club or asked for more money or something. Once that's happened, the world and his mum can deny it and that will just be seen as 'Stretford briefing the media' or 'the club pandering to Rooney'. This last one is the reason everyone believes he's actually being paid £300k per wk directly by the club, despite the fact that the real deal as explained in an earlier post is fairly well reported.

I kinda think Kroos and Herrera fits better, whilst I prefer Vidal as a player.

Vidal is much better defensively than Kroos, but atleast Kroos will sit and provide slow control. If he could improve his off ball positioning and pick up more interceptions then it would work well. Similar to Carrick and Fletcher/Cleverley back when they were decent partnerships. Carrick provided the cover and move the ball statically and the other would hound down the ball and carry it around.

Whilst I really rate Kroos, his cycling of the ball is very slow, and Vidal is the best midfielder around in my eyes. If I had to pick I'd say Vidal, but as a partnership I think Kroos is perhaps more conventional. That's probably just because I've watched us play with (and struggle without) Carrick for so long, and the majority of top teams have some form of deep lying playmaker these days opposed to two all action midfielders.

Admittedly, Herrera could do that job, but I think he'd be wasted.

This is actually makes a lot of sense. Teams often sell players who are at their peak or beginning to decline so their younger players can flourish, in what ever capacity that may be.

We sold Paul Ince so Roy Keane could become a better player and look what happened. I think if Juventus want to get the best out of Pogba and they want to keep him for the foreseeable future they will have to sell Vidal at some point in the next couple of seasons.

I said this a few weeks ago.

Selling Vidal right now makes so much sense.
Juventus are much better than their closest domestic rival. Losing Vidal wouldn't shift the power, but Juventus are a considerable way off winning anything in Europe, so gaining 45m or so and it not really effecting them much in terms of trophies etc makes a lot of sense.

Selling Vidal free's up a more regular role for Pogba, while they could use some of the money received to buy the next potential midfielder talent

Could end up backfiring though - I can see Pogba wanting to leave in the near future.

It's not just a about that - its about money.

Vidal is at an age where his value might peak, especially if he has a good World Cup.

I remember reading an article a couple of years back about Juve and how the owners were not prepared to pour fortunes in for no return. They moved stadia as they get average crowds - perhaps they do not have the resources to spend year on year without balancing the books from time to time.

Managers always want money to spend, perhaps they want to cash in in order to do that.

If Vidal becomes available expect Madrid to pounce on him straight away, they have been interested in him since last Summer when they enquired about him when they met the Juve directors to discuss Higuain.

Not only will Vidal have to chose Man United over Madrid but you will most likely have to outbid Madrid on him which looks very hard to do seeing as they can pay more money for any player than any other club.

There is probably 5% chance he will be at Man United next season. Not impossible but it would be very unlikely imo.

Can somebody help me out - where have these Vidal rumours stemmed from? Not seen one reliable Journo on it yet.
