Arturo Vidal

How many players from continental Europe have left us for Barcelona or Madrid? 2? One Ferguson wanted to sell.

He wanted to sell Ronaldo? The boy wanted to leave and he came to an agreement with him. Wanted to sell is laughable.

I think people have lost sight of this whole conversation origin! The point was Top European Players from the continent like Pogba would not show loyalty to United if Barca and Real come courting them. In relation to us buying Pogba and him attracting their attention in 3-4 years...and him being the money grabbing wench he is etc etc....People need to read back or not comment!

Pogba's got nothing to do with this argument. He was an 18-year-old, who we were never going to go all out to try and keep. The debate is about Vidal, and star players of the sort he would be for us, and you still can't think of a single player like other than Ronaldo who's been bought from us against our will.

No but my point was that all of our star players will have courted attention from other big clubs at some point. How many left against our will?

Well thats a diff scenario to my argument obviously alot of our players from GB esp the class of 92 etc were very loyal to the club and to Fergie.

I was on about Van Nistlerooy, the only other player I can think of who left us for them who was from continental Europe.

The majority of our players have stayed with us until Ferguson wanted to sell them. Ronaldo is the exception.

You came in on my comments with someone else so how the hell do you know what our conversation was about you tool.

No its evolved into a different animal now. It has been for a while.

What has, the discussion? It's about whether if we bought Vidal we'd be able to keep him. RedorDead21 thinks our selling Ronaldo is a precedent that proves that we wouldn't. Everyone else thinks our never having sold a top player who we wanted to keep apart from Ronaldo is a precedent that proves that we would.

None of that seems beyond the bounds of 'Vidal discussion'.

With our squad wed be outright favorites no doubt about it. Wed power through most teams and outclass the big boys.

New additions will walk into the 1st 11. Its the back-up in key areas i'm be concerned about. Central Defence is piss-poor if Evans is injured. He's the only one i have any faith in, but he only plays half a season at most due to injury, which is why i'd like us get 2 CB's in this window..

We need to try to get a Rio & Vida partnership again & the sooner the better if the club wants success.. 4th spot isnt success either for United!

If you don't get that arguing with this guy is a waste of time yet by the last few points he's made then carry on.

Are the rumours of us preparing a bid true?

Ah, the 'waste of time' thing. You'll note that we're on a football forum discussing football players. All of this is technically a waste of time, but that doesn't stop us doing it.

Are the rumours of us preparing a bid true?

Dunno, probably not. They come from a couple of half-reliable Italian sources. Juventus may need to sell before they can spend on the sort of top class additions they're purportedly pursuing (Sanchez, for example), but it would be an odd choice to raise those funds by selling arguably their best player. That said, midfield is by far their strongest area so if they do sell to buy, it would probably be a CM.

I'm hoping Woody is in the middle of a manic psychotic break, running loose with the Utd cheque book.

With the Glazers desperately trying to track him down and neutralise him. Let's hope he gets to Vidal before they they get to him!

I'm thinking Bourne.... I can see Woody bleaching his hair, dressing Vidal up as a woman and smuggling him across Europe in a clapped out mini...

It would be ideal. With Strootman looking to come in after his injury, do we need a Vidal type player?

Can't we make do with what we have, even without Strootman or Vidal?

Buses! We've been waiting for one for about 8 years, then 3 come along at once!

If Real are chasing Kross, surely they won't go for Vidal as well?
I suspect Kroos has already agreed in principal to sign for Real which is why we've dropped interest even though it appears he's definitely going to leave Bayern at the end of next season.

I reckon we'll throw all we can at Vidal and Juventus to make this deal happen so at least we can say we tried.

If we sign Vidal I guess it would be safe to assume this "war chest" does exist haha

Here to read Vidal information. Take it elsewhere

Conversations exceed the topic sometimes, but its all related in this instance. Read the feckin build-up to what the lads are talking about now. I wont give you a short version, because you cant be arsed to read any of the lads posts.

You just jumped in to see what the latest news was on Vidal to United & now you're throwing the toys outta the pram because you're disappointed. Stick with this website if your only interest is media coverage: http://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/Sport/Football/Premier+League/Manchester+United

Great website by the way. Love it...

Keeping in tradition with United having a British spine to the team, are there any British midfielders that we could turn to as a midfield alternative to Vidal or any other defensive midfielder we're looking at?

Nothing to do with that, you're off the mark.

Thanks for input though, appreciate the concern.

Vidal is a type of player you don't skip if you have any chance to sign him. Even if we do get Kevin Strootman. Plus Carrick, Fletcher and Fellaini are not getting younger, nor better. Herrera, Vidal and Strootman / Kroos would be a Champions League winning midfield.

Money talks though, as it has proven to so many times. CL football or not, a move to United would be a big step up anyway.
It's not just the money, the best players in the world can get big money anywhere. They're still human and what they want most of all is to be told they're the best thing since sliced bread and the team needs them. Look at Toure at City, if footballers don't feel valued they will go where someone else values them highly. Van Gaal has already come out and pretty much said he loves the guy. Real just want another Galatico they can fit in with the rest of their team, he will never be the star player when Ronaldo's in town.

I don't think so. England are struggling to produce some quality central midfielders for a while now.

Barkley could be but he does seen more of an attacking midfielder and the fee for him could get us a player of Vidal's quality.

Ronaldo had wanted to play for Madrid since he was a kid, we knew that, he knew that and they knew that from the beginning.

Very diplomatic of you. Respect to that

You should quote what you're referring to in fairness. What were you on about as a matter of interest though?
Brightonian was right in his argument. He had proven Red or Dead wrong as had others. Yet he was still trying to mangle with the newly promoted and hopelessly ill-informed Red.

Red or Dead as observed in previous threads simply doesn't let things go and anyone could see that this would quickly turn into something other than Vidal chat (the clue was him personally attacking Brightonian).

I appreciate and respect what you're saying, as you've been here longer than I, but I feel that it was necessary to step in before it got silly.

I hope this makes more sense.

With the way that van Gaal has a knack for converting players into other positions, coyld the same be done for Barkley?

I just feel we need that United identity in the middle of the pitch. Maybe my way of thinking is outdated hah.

There's an awful lot of handbag stuff going on over the last couple of pages and I'm not sifting through it all. Have we any new information on this? He would be an ideal signing but it is still surely very unlikely, no matter how much we've flexed our financial muscles this week?
