Arturo Vidal

We might be in a hurry but I imagine Woody isn't. Even if we sign him today, he'll probably only join up with the squad when we get back to Manchester so it doesn't make much of a difference. I think we'll see movement on our transfers once our tour is done.

I think it was like the 6th? I can't be sure though.

I'm sure I read they fly on Sunday. Could be wrong though.

Would have thought their squad will be announced very soon.

Has there been any updates from Bates (the only English journo to say we are interested)? Or Mitten?

Because there was nothing to be agreed. He had a release clause, once we paid it out that was it. Vidal doesn't have that, so IF we sign him an agreement has to be made between the two clubs. That naturally takes longer, especially if they don't particularly want to sell and are holding out for an offer they can't refuse.

Seriously, what is this retarded notion people have that all transfers are the same and have to take the exact same time to be done?

Read the posts above before you get your knickers in a twist, you have totally missed the point in your usual rush to steam roll everyone.

The point in discussion is the involvement of the UK press, yes the Herrera deal broke first in the Spain but the Uk Journo's jumped on the story, the Vidal story broke from Chile & Italy weeks ago and the same UK journo's still aren't going anywhere near it.

Agree with everything you have said.

We just have to wait until Sept 1st.

Juve tour starts on the 3rd they fly out on Sunday (technically start of tour) that's why we are seeing it supposedly coming to a head.

They are travelling on Sunday, so announcing it 3 days later could be counter productive.
Yeah, cheers lads. The 6th stuck in my head because it was apparently the 'ultimatum' date that Juventus set us according to a few tweets recently.

And yet if you read the "reliable" journalists, it was off, on, stalled, off and on again, with him going to Chelsea at some point in between. That was my whole bloody point. Is there something wrong with you?

So you didn't think Shaw was going to sign? the Uk press report what they get from their sources, which in the case of Vidal is Feck all.

The only thing wrong with me is I have to read some of the shite you come out with.

So either something happens today or we will have to wait until the tour ends. They won't take him on tour if he's going to leave.

I sense a double announcement on the horizon much like herrera and shaw. This time Mats and Arturo. Stock prices soar, glazers get a pay day. All is happy.

So come the weekend when Arturo is on the plane to go to the Juve tour, will the activity in this thread finally die down?

For Herrera, the UK journalists jumped in when their was absolutely no doubt that he was going to be signed. That point hasn't been reached with Vidal... yet.

Apart from, you know, when they did. They all reported it as being on, every last one of them, until they changed their minds after we briefed them. Is it so far back that you can't remember it happening, or are you changing history to try and back up your point? These "reliable" journos have all printed stories saying this deal was happening. Every last one of them. Some have since reported a revived deal after saying it was on then off. Some reported his "no no" statement in the airport as a "blow to United" days after reporting we weren't interested. So are they reliable or not?

Happened before with transfers though. If we are not even close to getting him yet they will take him with them and this could drag on until late August, if it's true that we want to get him at all.

If it's as close as some suggest I could imagine that he won't travel, but who knows.

Yeah I thought it was happening, but the "reliable" press you talk about had a different take every day.

You're the one going on about these reliable sources when these guys didn't know dick about Herrera and reported "the most inevitable transfer we've had in years" as being off, on, stalled, on again, going to Chelsea, costing £7mil more than he did, and all other kinds of shite in between in the duration between us bidding and him signing out of the blue.

Are you willingly being stupid?

I think of we don't hear anything by the earliest this lunch time and the latest Saturday evening we may as well close the thread.

Yeah let's not forget that Shaw himself said he had decided and signed the contract before the world cup. All that was left was the fee....the English press are probably some of the worst around when it comes to transfers. The only thing they swear by is their "briefings". They had no idea about RVP or Mata until perhaps 2/3 days before the official announcements.

It's 3rd in the priority list? So who can play alongside Herrera? Cleverly? Anderson? fletcher? fellaini? Plus Herrera is untested at this level, united need that CM signing badly to partner Herrera, not too mention carricks age at 33

As I see it we have first team quality players at LB and CB with no cover, in midfield we don't even have a first team quality player to partner Herrera. Just get Blind to cover everything.

Yes, 3rd priority. Herrera is class and at least to partner him we have decent players in Fletcher, Carrick and Cleverley (yes, Cleverley!). It;'s not ideal but I never said it was, I said it was serviceable. In defence we have 3 CBs and 1 LWB. We have absolute zero cover unless we're plucking them from the youth team.

Assuming you mean Evra and Vidic? Vidic left way before LVG was in the running and Evra asked to leave. We didnt "let" anyone leave, they wanted to go.

Dress it up in whichever way you like, those 2 players left when it was needless to let them go. Vidic should have never been allowed to enter the last year of his contract and we could have point blank just refused to let Evra go.

Do you guys think if Vidal tours asia with Juve, then its all over? As Van Persie also went on to the tour with Arsenal.

I think a lot will depend on how much he plays while on tour. From what i recall RVP only made one substitute appearance when he went on that tour with the Arse.

I don't know whether this is happening or not. I don't even have an opinion to be honest, because I've no idea what's going on behind the scenes, but people bemoaning the lack of reliable, credible sources, and waiting for James Ducker or whoever to tell them it's happening need to have a look at how reliable these guys have been with our other transfer deals this summer. It's pretty clear they don't have the foggiest feck what's happening with United transfers this summer and are scrabbling around in the dark trying to pin the proverbial tail on the donkey.

According to Ducker De Vrij was our number one target, and we know how it all end up.One thing is sure they don't have a clue.

If Vidal was indeed going to Carrington for a medical in a top secret transfer then he certainly wouldn't be ssat in the front seat of a fecking range rover looking straight at the paps.

tbf, Evra said yesterday that there were 'personal reasons' behind him leaving. On Vidic, I think blame lies on Moyes in some way. Under a better manager and in usual conditions, getting Vidic to renew wouldn't have been a problem. He would have stayed. All these guys actually loved the club so negotiations were never much of issue and hence we didn't need to take up before they were due for negotiations.

btw, while typing Vidic in reply above, I typed 'Vidal' instead...twice... If this is not a indicator that he will join us then I don't know what is.

De Vrij came out himself and said several clubs showed interest but United was not one of them, thought Ducker was kinda reliable?

Exactly. He'd be in the Woodycopter.

Funny that they haven't announced the travelling party? Ours was announced well in advance AFAIR.

Ogden, Ducker and someone else on tour all said that De Vrij was one of four we were after. We know that there was no contact made with De Vrij, so either he was bottom of the pile and was going to be used as a last resort. Or the list we've fed the media is bullshit.

Or just decide to stop clicking on the thread, rather than telling others what to do.

RVP went on Arsenal's preseason tour before he signed for us, so Sunday is not the final deadline.
