Arturo Vidal

The part in the article where it states that LvG has ordered the no. 7 shirt to be reserved is the part which broke my suspension of disbelief.

It's absurd to think that LvG who had just joined us, is well versed with the value & history of the no.7 jersey enough to reserve it specifically for Vidal.

To be fair, the United #7 jersey is not exactly some obscure bit of United history. I don't see any reason why LvG could not be aware of that jersey and the place it holds in the club's history.

Enlightenment came upon me This Night.

We’ve heard all the talk from Woodward about his “excitement about signing new deals”. Van Gaal sounded confident about bringing some new faces too.

I expressed anxiety about our lack of actions in transfer window. I don’t believe van Gaal needs so much time to value our squad, as it’s easy to see in which areas we lack quantity, and where quality.

But there is an explanation. LVG complained about “commercial interests interfering with football preparation”. What I understand is that he is not allowed to bring new players to the tour because they have to be presented at Old Trafford, and he also has to be present.

Waiting for so long to make transfers makes no sense whatsoever, especially as our squad have to learn 3-5-2 before the season starts for good. That’s why he’s complaining.

All this “we’ve got this” attitude indicates that we are confident to sign some big names.

I’m no muppet anymore (the Thiago saga hurt me badly), but I can see some logic in there.

Now, Vidal. My understanding is that Vidal has not committed himself to Juve. Their comments don’t bother me at all (won’t sell a virus and all that). It’s quite clear that we are the only one after Vidal. If there was some serious interest from other clubs then we would’ve known more than we do IMO.

Don’t give up on him. Ed’s got this. Done Dealio.
It’s amazing how a day off and some alcohol can work on your brain.
Or am I reading too much into it
I don't think we can compare this to Thiago, Cesc etc. as that was under Moyes and let's face it, there were questions being asked about if any world class players would want to join United under the stewardess of David who???? Fair enough, he got Mata but I think that was more down to SAF/Gill stepping in rather that Moyes selling the club to Mata.

I've no worries about us bringing in world class talent this time around. United, itself, is a draw for big name players, throw in LvG and the lessons learned from last summer by Woody and we've got a fantastic chance of bringing Vidal and another 1-2 world class players to the club this summer.

Premier League Juventus, Vidal takes all in anxiety
The prosecutor is in England for 48 hours and give the Manchester agreement closer. The Bianconeri expect the summit with the agent to know the figures of the offer prepared by United. The Chilean is cautious about the future

TURIN - Drafts, phone calls and contacts. The "soap opera Vidal" enters its decisive phase, one that will mark the fate of the Juventus midfielder. After the talks in recent days, with both Allegri is with the company, the Chilean expects to face-to-face with his attorney. Fernando Felicevich, arrived in Europe earlier this week, the past 48 hours has been based in England and at any moment could move to Italy. The Argentine powerful agent is working tirelessly, taken from the future Medel (directed by Cardiff Inter) and Vidal. In England and Chile pointing on white smoke Vidal-Manchester United, convinced that in the end the Old Trafford club will put on the plate astonishing figures. At least 50 million for Juventus and at least 8 million of engagement for the player. Because from what transpires, I would be willing to leave Juventus Turin - and digest a season without Champions - only (and only) for a salary almost double the current. Manchester United, a strong portfolio of almost unlimited, would have no trouble meeting the needs of Felicevich. But such a transfer usually requires determination and time. But in Corso Galileo Ferraris do not intend to wait forever, as part of the Sunday tour of Asia and Oceania, and Allegri wants to board the flight to Jakarta with a suitcase in certainty about the future of the former Bayer Leverkusen. More than a desire, an ultimatum. Although the transfer market everything is subject to change. Nowhere - If Marotta awaits the concrete steps of Manchester United and dribbled the rumors, Vidal is surrounded by Juventus fans, anxious as him for the catchphrase of the last few weeks. Every day there is some advocate waiting for him outside the hotel hosting the retreat Juventus. The Chilean has not lost the good habits, is always available for photos and autographs. More buttoned on the future. He smiles, but is cautious.

It would mean a lot more to United fans that it would to anybody else. For example, if you are not a Serie A watcher you might not know that Milan had retired the #3 shirt. I don't even know what shirt # has an extra special meaning to Liverpool or Arsenal.

Seeing Michael Owen & Valencia as the last 2 players to wear the no.7 would not have reinforced the idea that #7 is special to us.

Well me too, mainly because we have a decisive manager and surely Woodward has learnt his lesson, but that's not the point of my comment...

So yesterday I'd lost all hope. Tears were working their way into my eyes and i was buying matches to burn the Vidal shrine. Then i come here this morning and see all these wonderful news posts, the sky is sunny once more and now it seems ArturON!

What a lot of tosh.

Another day more BS. I'm not even sure if we are in for him.

Wait why is everybody getting excited for no reason? Whats the difference between the reports 1 week back and today?

Well your logic says otherwise.

Wait why is everybody getting excited for no reason? Whats the difference between the reports 1 week back and today?

Nothing! People are getting excited and making stories out of nothing. The only credible information we have is that Juve saying they don't want to sell and Vidal getting harassed at the airport. Everything else is fiction.

I'm thinking more and more that this deal is very much under control.

As is readily apparent to anyone, Vidal is the perfect player for us right now - precisely what we need. The number being floated around are not at all unreasonable. The signs point to Vidal being open for a move, and also for Juve being willing to sell for the right price (which is in line with his valuation).

There also doesn't seem to be a scramble by other clubs to try and sign him.

Add in Woodward talking about us having the money, and not being afraid of spending it, then I think this is all progressing behind the scenes.

I cannot believe that we would not be involved in this deal.

If this transfer was close you would have expected at least one reporter to ask LVG about it in one of his many interviews and press conferences. It looks like the proper football journalists are not even reporting it, it's the twitter trolls, metro, mirror, goal etc that are writing the stories. Doesn't sound positive at all.

You'd make a great judge, 'what's that you didn't stab him? Well you've heard it from the horses mouth people, he's innocent!'

Are you North Korean?

That's a ridiculously idiotic comparison. This is hardly a trial.

He'd just call them stupid again. Reporters will learn quickly not to mess with LvG.
But yeah, i think i got a little carried away really, they've just thought of a slightly different twist to put onto it. Back into my hiding hole waiting impatiently for some actual news.

Really? Thank you for that dose of realism, I suppose you're not comfortable with sensationalism. You keep beleive everything anyone in football tells you then, why would we disbelieve them? I mean its not a trial!

I don't believe what everyone says that's my point. There's a lot of stories being made up, if you want to believe everything that's up to you. I trust sources with good reputations (which none have reported this transfer being close), it seems you take everything that is said on twitter and tabloids as the truth.

My point was we have had no credible information from either MUFC, Juve, or Vidal that he is going to sign for us.

When we bought Herrera and Shaw there were a number of credible reports leading upto the transfers that the deal was being discussed, a bid was close etc...

This transfer is just made up from stories from the Mirror, Express etc.

Do the Mirror reporters not go to the press conferences? They're reporting it, why aren't they asking about it?

Other papers in the UK have reported it on, off, on and off again at various times throughout the summer. Why have they not asked about it?

Why has nobody asked about it at any stage, anywhere? Do the press just think "well, we don't think it's happening so no need to ask a question and maybe get a scoop or interesting titbit to report"? Or is it more likely that they've been briefed not to ask questions about Vidal/transfers etc in the press conferences? They haven't asked about any players, at all, at any stage. Why make it Vidal specific?

According to MEN Liverpool are in for him and have submitted a bid.

Further confirmation he's going nowhere !

I can't see this anywhere, Peter Spencer tweeted something yesterday and never followed it up. On the Liverpool Echo gossip section they say Pool could hijack deal and link it to a week old Metro story.

I am away from internet access until 2pm today, so it's clearly going to happen during that time whilst I can't take part in the excitement and the rapid fire muppet formation posting.

It's on, don't worry guys, I got this.

When we signed Herrera there were reports it was happening from the spanish press. The British lot (the reliable ones you're talking about) reported it wasn't on and nothing was happening. With Shaw they reported a bid was made, then when nothing happened they made up reasons why it was off or stalled or other shite to keep the story going while he was at the World Cup. Then the announcement came out of the blue. You'd think the way you're talking they've had their finger on the pulse all summer, but they've barely known shit about the two signings we've made.

We need bit of positivity. May need to hire services of Indykaila and Agent_Edward temporarily.

Exactly my point they actually reported bids/discussions happening at some point. There has been nothing of the sort with this transfer (from credible sources).

Look if you want to clutch at straws and believe the regurgitated twitter stories that's fine, just don't get too disappointed if it doesn't happen. I will be more than happy to be gladly wrong about this one. Hopefully we will see some proper news on it soon if not this is not happening.

The Herrera transfer news broke in Spain without the so-called reliable Manchester press pack even having a sniff.
