Not many teams go from 7th to challenging for the title with a new manager, 4-5 new playing faces and a complete system change. The same system which Mancini tried and failed to implement with the best squad in the PL..by some distance.

Its going to be very difficult to finish 4th with all these changes, let alone challenge for the title. Like I say, to go into the new season and hope jones smalling evans shaw herrera stay fit, is asking for it

Not many teams go from winning the PL by 11 points to 7th with virtually the same squad but we've forgotten what the reason was.
Sometimes I wonder why some people just don't go off and support whoever's winning at the moment.
I know who I'm supporting and not jealous in any way shape or form of other teams, imagine how depressed they'd be if they supported Chelsea, City, Arsenal or Liverpool

The same squad that is 2 years older, without ferdinand vidic evra giggs scholes, along with a new manager coaching and system change. I like to see any team try and challenge for the title, with an under equipped in midfield and defence

Still struggling to get my head round this. If we are interested then why have we not put a bid in, surely we want to sort this (either way) sooner rather than later, other it's just a repeat of last year.

If there is a chance then let's get it done.

The hope of going into a new season thinking 6-7 new first teamers is the answer is just as littered with disaster in the PL.....

Yea we have gone the other way, we have lost players. I like to see any team go into the new season after losing ferdinand vidic evra butner and carrick is injured too, with his replacement? herrera who is new the PL

Ferdinand, Giggs only played bit parts, Scholes only played partly the season before last since when we have bought Mata Shaw and Herrera for £95m just this year, City have spent £18m this year
We will sign a couple more players, we have less games to play, we had a management change last season and a new system (passing sideways and backwards and relentless crosses)

The thread would've been locked if it was about Rooney

I wish that were true, but last summer is was allowed to just roll on unchecked. In all my years on this planet I have genuinely never seen a greater conglomeration of human idiocy than that thread. Transfer muppetry doesn't even come close.

Isn't that also the nickname the Juve fans give Pogba? Because of his 'tentacle-like legs'.

We have Shaw who is better than Evra was in recent seasons...Herrera who is our best midfielder....with Adnan a year older and better presumably and Zaha who may be wild card who knows and I'd still suggest another couple of signings to come in guaranteed. No reason to think otherwise just yet.

If we're interested maybe we have a verbal agreement, and will give offer at the same time pr after we have tied up the other main targets, to keep prices down. I can imagine 2-3 consequential announcements ala Shaw and Herrera.

At this stage how many of the British journos are saying we're in for him? Is it just Steve Bates and one or two repeating reports from elsewhere?

Someone pointed it out at the weekend, but to me it looks like he wrote the "Vidal move back on" story at an opportune time when everyone else reckoned it was off. That'll sell papers/generate traffic to the site. He seems pretty sensible generally but if we honestly told him we're back in for Vidal why would we be telling everyone else we're not? It doesn't make any sense.
I think Ogden or someone came out and basics said "the club are saying there's nothing in it but they lie to us all the time" and also that the stories from Italy and Chile are not going away so there could be something to it.

Thing is if United are negotiating through Vidal's agent (it's common for agents to rep both player and buying club simultaneously in these cases) then its not exactly far fetched to think that we're telling the press there's nothing happening just so as to let the agent do his business.

I'm not saying that's definitely what's happening, but it's certainly not implausible.

Indeed.

Going public last year made the club look daft when it didn't come off.

If they are negotiating for him but it doesn't work out then then they don't have to comment and its not a big deal.

Not briefing the press is, in my opinion the best way to go. It means they're speculating and everyone takes that with a pinch of salt.

Course not. It's entirely possible. I'd suggest it's probably less likely then the alternative, though, when you consider that we seem to have briefed the journos on the tour about other targets. Plus if Juve/Vidal are open to a big bid then stories coming from Italy and Chile is pretty logical.

Have we briefed them about other targets? Vermaelen seemed to leak but still isn't done and everything else seems to be speculation.

Van Gaal mentioned wanting a defender but no names.

Possibly, but I'm holding out hope that there's something in all this.

If there really isn't and we're genuinely not interested in him it's more than puzzling as to why the hell not.

This has all become a bit shit.

The club's lack of activity, for the second year in succession, is disappointing. Shaw and Herrera coming in is nowhere near enough if you look at the overall state of the squad.

Would've been nice to get the extra players we need in for a pre-season with the team.

The complete lack of anything in relation to Vidal makes it hard to be optimistic we'll get him. Seems to have fizzled out.

Gah I can't keep up. I miss the old uni days when I could get properly into transfer sagas. Sneijder was my first and last.
