Arturo Vidal

One of those names went to Lazio two days later, I don't think we're briefing a thing, the Herrera deal supports that view.
I'm curious how you think so many journalists came up with basically the same list then. Is this all guesswork between the journos over a pint on the tour?

Seems to me that people don't want to believe we are briefing as it might mean we're not in for Vidal.

What was all that talk from Giggs about getting players that were still involved in the last week of the WC? Don't see any new Argies or Germans around!
Or Dutch and Brizilian either.

I'm as worried about not shipping the deadwood out as i am about not bringing players in.

We need player like Vidal and i was very optimistic for a long time but if we don't buy him this week i think this is off. We need bring to 2-3 players in ASAP so they could fit into the system before the season start. I think Van Gaal already established what positions he must strength and who are the players who are free to go, we just need to start buying and selling.

So...

Chelsea just pocketed £28m :nervous::nervous::nervous:

Is this the list that the ever reliable Custis wrote in the Sun? De Vrij, Hummels, Di Maria, Blind and Vermaalen. They would hardly need to be briefed to come up with that would they? It's just lazy journalism. And like I said, two days later De Vrij was having a medical in fecking Rome, so why would we brief we were after him if we actually weren't after him?

I'm not arguing we are after Vidal, I've seen nothing reliable indicating we are, I'm arguing the British Journalists have no idea who we're after, and them having no indication of the Herrera deal proves that, as does the constant flip flopping they've done regarding our interest on Vidal, Sanchez, Di Maria and countless others this summer. Ogden and Taylor were effectively our PR men last summer, they were getting fed everything, it's blatantly obvious that's all changed.

I highly doubt Everton are paying the £28mil in one go.
Don't know why they wouldn't. With the massive TV money they could probably swing it.

Not like Chelsea would need all of it right now if they wanted Vidal.

Custis, among many others, yeah. I don't disagree we've obviously turned off the tap this summer. But where I do disagree is that that many journos would come up with basically the same list within hours/a day of each other and that can be passed off as guesswork. If it was one or two of them, yeah, maybe. This is too many to be anything other than a briefing, even if only in terms of names being mentioned and us saying something like "Yeah, we've had a look at that player". As for why we'd brief, perhaps we were genuinely interested even at that point. Perhaps we're throwing them off the scent. I have no idea if the list is even genuine in terms of them being players we're actually after. I don't doubt where they got the list, though.

Indeed.

Going public last year made the club look daft when it didn't come off.

If they are negotiating for him but it doesn't work out then then they don't have to comment and its not a big deal.

Not briefing the press is, in my opinion the best way to go. It means they're speculating and everyone takes that with a pinch of salt.

Then, why the feck would woody go on and on about WC players and Watch the space bullshit. He should have just kept his mouth shut.

Doubt it. He's just thrown together a list of those we've been linked with. Everyone has a different list. Most journos tried it a month or so back and the lists have changed completely since then, and no one predicted Herrera despite us openly going for him last summer. It's just your standard tabloid page filler.

Most transfers are not lump sums but rather a set amount over a few years. If Everton are paying say £6mil a season for 4 or 5 years then in terms of FFP they would of only received £6mil to play with. Unless thats not how FFP works.

"I think he will remain"

Juve, Allegri: ' Evra's experience will be important. I spoke with Vidal, I think will remain "

Well he will remain if we don't put a fecking bid in, sooo frustrating.
I have already accepted we won't get him last week and i feel better for it to be honest. Obviously if we get him it will be a bonus and i think thats probably the best way to look at it because we have been here so many times before in recent years.

I think it's likelier that we're denying the Vidal stuff should the fairly likely occur and it fails to happen, allowing us to maintain some plausible deniability. It's not an easy transfer to pull of given Vidal doesn't look desperate to leave and Juve don't seem particularly keen to sell. Avoids the Fabregas circus of last year as well. I don't think Vidal or Juve themselves have much to gain from feeding false stories of interest to the press.

So basically from 'He's staying' it's gone to 'I think he will remain' ?
Yeah they have flip flopped between those two statements the last few weeks which is why no one really listened to him when he said "hes staying" it was later backed up by "Well we think hes staying" nothing has been discussed. I can imagine him asking Vidal if he is happy at Juve and Vidal saying 'yes of course" then asking "so your staying then?" and Vidal saying "we will discuss that with my agent when he arrives".

Quite clearly we have. A bunch of the journos came out with the same four or five names around the same time.

It's been the same, or similar names most of the summer, none of which have happened - in fact Herrera was the one that nobody called and he signed.

I personally question how much the club is briefing anyone. A lot of this has been rehashing Moyes targets (Kroos, Fabegas, hummels and Carvalho), linking Dutch players (De Vrij, Strootman and various others) or the odd superstar unwanted at his club in Di Maria.

What are you referring to?

He said, as far as I recall that the club has money to spend and can, if the manager wants to, spend big money. He also said that things are going on behind the scenes, which they undoubtedly are.

None of that is unexpected and he hasn't named any players - It's down to Van Gaal to make the call on what's needed.

If you can show me where he said anything different then I stand corrected.

At the end of the day he is always going to be asked about transfers. He's been honest a out it and said the manager makes the decisions - which is how it should be. I have no problem with that.

Had he "kept his mouth shut" the fans would be moaning about how nothing has changed and there's no money etc. He can't win.

The issue seems to be that people want to read a million things into what are fairly straightforward comments and the whinge that the assumptions they made aren't correct.

It's very very common to not pay everything in one payment. The reason you don't is quite obvious. I'm sure you take care of yourself. Makes sense to not pay everything at once if it can be avoided.
