Arturo Vidal

There was no reason he had to come out with all the not only the lines about being loaded, but also "watch this space", "we know what the fans want" etc.

What worries me is that he said the same thing last summer, going on about how we are big players in the transfer market.
I'm more confident however, that we will get a defender and maybe another player before the end of the window.

If we're not trying then I don't know why we haven't categorically come out to deny it. I get that we're not gonna squash every rumor but this is such a widespread one. It's one thing to try and fail, it's another to let the fans expectations rise when you could easily quash it especially when you've already had some bad press about raising expectations falsely (Fabregas and in general last summer). Just seems odd unless we're happy to play along as part of a negotiating ploy for another player or something.

Everyone seems to be getting very impatient and down on this tonight. I think it's time we revisit how Vidal doesn't know where he'll be next season to boost morale:

Come on Studward, we need you to make the bid FFS, Moratta's been whorring Vidal off in public and you're still preparing a bid! :(

So many "I think's", "He might" etc. It's never a full denial. I can't help but feel if we really want him, we could get him.

If you think those youth players can replace what ferdinand and vidic and create the depth at the club, you having a laugh. What youth players coming through? especially in midfield, you saying they can walk into the team and solve all our problems? everyone staying fit, we are still short on players, and its called depth. Rafeal is already injured, we need a back up or someone better, shaw is 18 he still needs someone to keep him on his toes. Has for midfield, take away carrick and herrera, its a pile of shit, cleverly anderson fellaini fletcher options that would not get into any top PL or european squad, but only ours. So even if everyone stays fit, we have not got enough quality to challenge for the title. Go look at real madrid, their current squad just after winning the champions league, they go out there and strengthen from a position of strength, its what the biggest clubs in the world do. So instead of the FM jibe, have a look at how outdated the clubs transfer policy truly is. Only MUFC these days could possibly enter auguest with 5 first choice defenders, when 4 of them are injury prone. No way will we challenge for the title with this squad, we be lucky to make a top 4, with such thin options

United are not on the up, so when a club the size of MUFC finishes 7th, you got to make a statement. For me using the youth setup, is just telling us all we are not looking to truly spend big, just hope our academy bails us out. Its fantasy to think the youth team players can fill out the squad depth, just goes to show how tight the owners are
I never made an FM jibe, to be fair, so I haven't the foggiest feck what you're on about.

As for signings, if you reckon we're on for signing 2 more midfielders and 3 more defenders, on top of the 1 of each we've already signed, then I don't know what planet you're on. We've already got 3 centre backs, a young left back, a right back and someone who is clearly being lined up to cover there in Valencia. We've signed Herrera, and if we sign Vidal that'll be our starting two with Carrick, Fletcher and Cleverley as cover. What central midfielder is going to be prepared to come knowing he's immediately behind Herrera and Vidal in the pecking order? Centre backs we have Evans, Jones and Smalling. Now is their time to step up. If we're not giving them a chance this summer then we might as well sell them all because they'll never get a better chance to stake a claim. One more for cover is enough. That's not even including Keane and Blackett who have both impressed LVG on tour. We have to give these players chances, if not we might as well just shut down our academy.

So, yeah. 2 more midfielders and 3 more defenders is unrealistic, unfeasible and unnecessary.

Do people really think bids are made by a simple fax offering £X m for a player?

When I reality it will be face to face discussions regarding payment structure, level, type and timing of bonus payments etc etc

I do believe the fax thing is an ongoing joke, nobody truly believes it.

Yea we have gone the other way, we have lost players. I like to see any team go into the new season after losing ferdinand vidic evra butner and carrick is injured too, with his replacement? herrera who is new the PL
Ferdinand is finished and did feck all of note last season, Vidic on his way towards being the same, similar story with Evra. Buttner had always been shit. None of those is much of a loss. As for Carrick's replacement being new to the PL, you're the guy crying out for 5 more signings. Where are they coming from?

Yep.

But a little bit of me thinks, if we really wanted him, why hasn't it happened yet? What are we fecking around at... The man himself has never fully denied a move and he won't ever publicly ask for a transfer.

I really think we need to show our hand now, time will run out.

I'm still watching the space Ed.

It would be nice if Woodward would advance from the old, "preparing a bid stage".
Preparing a bid = an easy way for a paper to formulate a story and interest without anything actually happening to suggest that there's credence to the claim. Similar to considering a bid, monitoring a player etc.

Don't just watch the space, attack it.

I honestly can't believe that people are still clinging onto some hope with this one. This isn't a United transfer. It's dragging on and on and it never ends well for us.

Well LVG did say he wanted 3 or 4 weeks to assess his squad and that was only about 2 weeks ago. That leaves a week or 2 before the flood gates can open.

Could be a lot in and out, so that's a lot of preparation needed!

I agree with you, I do feel as though we definitely need one more CM and one CB.
Van Gaal said in his last interview that if he wants to switch to a 4-3-3 we'll need a winger so as Woodie would say "watch this space"

I think people are hopeful that things will be different under LvG. So far, nothing to report, but anticipation is strong.:wenger:

El Mercurio will probably run another 'Vidal hours from signing for United!' story tomorrow, get a load of tweets and blogs linking to it, which will be posted on here, and keep the thread running.

I'm going to quote every single one of you nob heads when he gets presented.

It's never been clearer that a transfer is going to happen. It's clearer now than the Rooney to United transfer is.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility that it isn't as easy as you think it is agreeing a transfer deal, and that the people involved are working behind the scenes discussing it, and don't feel the need to keep us abreast of all developments while it's ongoing? Just because you can't see anything happening doesn't mean nothing is happening.

I thought about starting a list earlier, but couldn't be arsed. It's always the same names that pop up after the thread has gone quiet for a while. As soon as a promising bit of news comes out, they disappear or flip their allegiance.

It's never been clearer that a transfer isn't going to happen. Just like the others before this that revolved around Twitter rumours and terribly unreliable papers writing rubbish.

It's all gone quiet because of the pre-season friendlies. The usual culprits are too occupied to write rubbish on this right now. It'll continue on Monday.

I stand by my point we need 5 players, and I think that defence is a time bomb waiting to go off. We could easily lose jones and Evans to injury and that leaves us short at the back, Ferdinand Vidic Evra and butner at times may not have played a major part in key parts of the season , but they added strength and depth. For me I cannot see rafeal jones Evans and smalling staying fit all season, even with no European football, the squad needs numbers to rotate.

Could things me slowed down or deql concealed due to; either LVG not wanting to upset the squad having said he needs a few weeks to assess it, or they need a 2nd opinion on the knee??
