Arturo Vidal

I took a self imposed absence from the Caf for about 2 weeks b/c the muppetry was overwhelming. I vowed not to return until I saw something concrete and I awake to news that I didn't think I would see to only be told that Chilean paper is the equivalent of the Daily Star, feck.

I just woke up in NY to news on my Eurosport app that that "Vidal agrees to 47m United Deal" is it true? I'm literally shaking as I type this.
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Genuinely burst out laughing and still shaking (from laughter and merriment) while I type this.

Well, depends on how you read the statement. Woodward is saying we've had no contact with Juventus - well, thats factually correct if we are using an agent as a go between.

Which statement are you referring to, as far as I can see no-one at United has briefed any of the press on any transfers at all this summer. If so, who has and when?

So Ogden claims United have said there hasn't been any direct contact with Juventus. A bit telling that.

This is happening people, get your fecking cocks out.
Clutching at straws buddy.

"Set to make a move". What does that even mean? It's as ambiguous as "preparing a bid". Just write a really big number on a piece of paper and jam it into the fax machine.

With the Chevy cash, and the sums of money due next year from Adidas, Woodward should be driving around and flicking dollar bills out of the window like he's Puff Daddy.

If you read any of the articles from McDonnell, Ducker, Jackson etc the have said "Utd are advising there has been no contact" - its been like this for the last 2 weeks.

As for not briefing on transfers - last Monday the above journos had a meeting with Woodward in LA. The following day they all listed the same targets - there are briefings but not quite like last summer.

They are being thrown off the scent so we can focus on are actual targets without so if they go tits up, we can then say we were never in for them anyway. Vidal being one of our targets. There is too much smoke for there not to be something happening. Sneijder was happening until his wages demands scuppered the deal. I doubt very much that will be a problem with Vidal as we are now willing to double his wages.

Would like to have a transcript or recording of this meeting as I seriously doubt any names were mentioned by Woodward, yes I've read the articles but United are giving nothing away this summer, a few lessons have been learnt methinks

It's really not, though. El Mercurio is the main national paper in Chile.

Someone called it a tabloid several pages back, and then someone else likened it to the Daily Star, but they're wrong. That doesn't mean that everything they print is 100% fact, but they aren't like the Daily Star, the Mail, or the Mirror. They're the most legitimate paper in Chile and are likely getting info from Vidal, the agent, or someone closely associated with one of those two. Of course, the agent or others could have an agenda in leaking something that isn't true.

Maybe the media keep linking us to him because they refuse to believe that we are going into the season with Herrera as our only midfiel recruit while all our rivals are strengthening left and right :wenger:

We haven't exactly squashed the rumors ourselves. If we aren't in for him, then why don't LVG or Woody come out and say we are not. I think there is still a chance. We have four days.

So all of them come out with the same names and you don't think they were briefed? Come on - utd are certainly keeping quiet on some things but they were happy to disclose that.

Because you set a precedent for having to respond to rumours in the future.

That's a thought. Has anyone from the media asked LvG during press conferences about Vidal or has the media been briefed before the start of the press conference to keep their questions purely regarding the next game?

Clutching at straws. If you respond to one rumour, it sets up a precedent. Of late, when a story has been bull, we brief the media and though the leaks have been tightened up since LVG came in, the brief about us no longer being interested in Vidal from a few weeks ago seems true.

Yea, it is strange they asked about Strootman and not Vidal. Whatever the case, is I hope we are still actively pursuing a midfield target for this upcoming campaign. I believe our target is Strootman, but he is not fit yet, so we are currently exploring different option. Hopefully one of that option is William Carvalho. We scouted this lad 20 times last season with great reports coming back. His price may be a stumbling block, but we need a number 6 in our system.

So basically they decided to disbelieve United's briefing on vidal because Twitter and foreign media like El fecknutio and Gazetta Dello Cock keep writing that we are preparing bids or agreeing terms (verbally).

How is that in any way convincing you that United are pulling out the legendary smokebottles (always mentioned, never happened) again? Screens of smoke, here we cum.
Christ, you're a misery. Why do you bother with this thread? Why not just post elsewhere?

Agree. The identical story last night regarding the players that can leave proved there are still some briefings going on. All the journalists listed the same four names at the same time.

I have a feeling it's Vidal's agent peddling this 'United is interested' story with the Chilean and Italian media in order to scare Juventus in paying him a higher wage.

A year after he signed a new contract?

The names are easy to come out with and in no way do I think we're in for Di Maria, the journalists do talk to each other though

It is highly frustrating that nobody from the press has asked a direct question to LVG for Vidal. Which poses the question why?. Surely 1 of the biggest sports papers in the land would love a direct quote on the biggest transfer of the summer. Perhaps they have been told to keep shush over the subject? That can only be a good thing.

Or just told not to ask about any individual players from other teams?

This has to be the more likely thing. I can't believe for one second that not one media journalist has asked the question at a press conference unless they have been told not to, which United have been prone to do in the past.

Yeah, why not? More money is more money. Any good agent would realise that Vidal's stock has gone up after a decent world cup and relative scarcity of midfielders which top clubs are seeking.

It would explain the whole, "he will stay as long Juve match wages offered by United" and why we seem to be telling reporters that we aren't interested.

It'd hardly be that surprising. If we said to him "We'll pay you £200k a week" his agent wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't use that to at least try to leverage a better deal for him with Juve.

Makes sense to me. People can get very greedy.
His agent would be whoring him out to more clubs if this was the case IMO.

Ogden, ''The noises coming out of Chile and Italy are so strong though that something may be going on behind the scenes.''
