Another example of taking a manager's words with a pinch of salt:

SAF said:
Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported that the two clubs had a gentlemen’s agreement to transfer Ronaldo to the Bernabeu at the end of the season.

The paper quoted a conversation between a Real Madrid director, Pedro Trapote, and one of his business associates, to support the claim, reporting that at least two other senior club sources had leaked the news.

But an incensed Ferguson denied he would be willing to enter such an agreement following a summer of bitter dispute with the Spanish champions over their relentless pursuit of the Ballon D’Or winner.

“Do you think I would get into a contract with that mob. Jesus Christ, no chance,” said Ferguson. “I wouldn’t sell them a virus.”

Why were people even looking forward to Allegri's press conference...Ofc he was going to say what need to be said and it doesn't mean anything tbf, he'd said the same few days before Ibra and Thiago Silva left but there's no way in hell he would say" Juventus is selling Vidal for the right amount. Come and get him, United"
Seriously did people really expect he would come out and talk bollock in front of many people so we could light our hope up? I want him to join but people need to be realistic and stop only listening to what they want to hear. This is just the new low of muppetry.

This is probably not helpful. But it's hard to disagree. ;)
Absolute nail on the head. Another analogy. Everyone arranges to get a pizza for the game...these lads turn up with either a microwave meal or a sainsburys basics frozen pizza whilst everyone else orders a dominos or poppa John's only for the cheap arse to start begging for a slice whilst he sucks on his value piece of cardboard.

So where are on the Vidal-ometer?

Ah doesn't really change anything, Of course he would say that first day at a new club, appeasing the fans. From what I gather about Italien football, the manager is just a glorified coach and doesn't really have an impact on the clubs transfer dealings. With the financial state of football in Italy, Juventus would accept a big bid and likewise Vidal would want to double his wages.who wouldn't?

Last summer with the leaks about signings, bids isn't the right way for a club to conduct its business but it had its benefits for fans because feck me I barely have a clue this summer if we are even interested in said players, in particular this situation with bids, negotiations.

It will be hard to explain to my project manager that I didn't get any work done because I was waiting for a tweet from David fecking Amoyal.

So because a few times agents\managers\ceo's and players have not been forthcoming with the truth in the media, it surely doesn't mean its like that all the time.

we're fecking deluded as united fans thinking that a player who is at the top of his game and in his prime, playing for the a top European club who has an awesome history and who has a chance to retain their championship and play in the CL, would ask to play for us!

in our world, no means yes, maybe means confirmed, and yes means something is wrong.
I think most of us think that this deal will happen because if reports are correct we are offering double the money Vidal is earning now. Apparently Juve needs money aswell to fund their signings and balance their books.
I doubt it if any off us here are dumb enough to assume that Vidal will leave for us just because we are Manchester United.

Bring on the start of the season I say.

So has Vidals agent arrived at Juve yet? and if he hasn't why hasn't he?, is he walking there or something.

I think most of us think that this deal will happen because if reports are correct we are offering double the money Vidal is earning now.

which reports? I just read that we haven't even sent the offer to Juventus, let alone offered contract to Vidal.

Like I said 10 pages in, we are never buying a superstar, we never do and never will. We aren't a big attraction anymore. If we win the UCL we might get to that standard though.

Rubbish. We don't buy many superstars because we never want to pay the going rate for them or we refuse to pay a £2mil agent fee or something. This is the first window for years where it SEEMS we are ready start acting like one of the biggest clubs in the world.

I'm preparing myself for the worst case scenario... We sign De Jong on deadline day and that will be that.

Allegri is going to act like it's business as usual until official bids start coming in for Vidal so he's hardly going to come out and state that United have held unofficial talks with us, Vidal's agent has placed an offer on the table etc.

We also don't sack managers, employ 'foreign' managers, finish outside of the top 3 of the Premier League, or play without wingers. Things change.

Good post. We didnt need foreign players for years because we had a strong enough squad without signing foreign players. Now we dont.

What went in the past is no marker for what might come in the future. The PL is a totally different beast to what it was even 5 or so years ago and everyone at the club bnow seems to recognise the need to bring in talent where needed, and where its the right thing to do to move forward.

Its arguable that the failure of some within the club to recongise when we were in decline and where players were needed is half the reason why we are where we are now.

Yeah, as much as I think we are interested the beating around the bush is frustrating. If we want him go get him. Maybe we are just trying to sweat them out over the price tag.

Starting to think we don't want him. You'd have thought we'd have lodged a bid by now otherwise.

"Starting"? We briefed the media time and time again since 2 weeks ago that we aren't interested

I just woke up in NY to news on my Eurosport app that that "Vidal agrees to 47m United Deal" is it true? I'm literally shaking as I type this.
