Arturo Vidal

Mitten was just trying to save face this week. The bugger doesn't know shit and he acts like he is so reliable when it comes to United transfers.

Well, if you're Vidal's agent and you want to force Juve's hand over a new contract...

It's not as though that's the first time we've been used like that. Seems to happen every fecking summer.

That could be the explanation bit the fecker got a new contract 12 months ago and we could pay him a lot more than Juventus... I'm hopeful

Nobody had a scooby during the Fergie era. I'm inclined to believe it will be the same with van Gaal. I doubt any journalist, even the erstwhile reliable ones, will know what he's thinking. He has no reason to reveal anything. It's not like he's friends with Mitten or anything.

The only possible reason I could see that we have been seemingly briefing the media that were not interested when we actually are is if Juve have already agreed a deal in principle with us (prior to Conte leaving), but have sworn us to secrecy until after they have spoken to Vidal about it personally, and until they have paid for replacements.

Or, he's not coming after all.

One of those two.

Van Gaal hates the media. He won't have told them anything and he'd have told Woodward not to as well.

Apart from when he said LVG didn't want him?

Je didn't say that. He said this might be the case. More or less wrote what the rest of the English press wrote. I think he has no more info otherwise he would have mentioned Vidal in one of his blog videos

He definitely has contacts, but they're seemingly a little dodgier than many of us initially thought.

Yeah, I can't see anything other than a disappointment on this one. I just can't see what benefit there is to briefing a big part of the British media that we're not interested if we are, as we already know that other people involved in this possibly hypothetical deal seem to be talking it up in the media. We can't control the Italians or Vidal's people so we're either banking on no journo in Britain having a good European source, or on Juve somehow buying the idea that we're not really that pushed on him. So I just don't see what the end game is. If our plan was to play down the interest, surely the place to do that is Italy, where the actual price will be set.

Plus pretending we don't want the player if we do, a fact which would be confirmed if we bid a massive amount of money for him weeks later, doesn't exactly seem like a foolproof plan.

This all has the stink of Vidal either leveraging a move elsewhere or getting a new deal at Juve, notwithstanding his recent renewal.

He's joining Dammit!
Vidal, the muppet king has surprised everyone by joining little known Hungarian team FC Dammit. In a move that will resonate across the football world, Vidal has joined the Hungarian non-league side, which consists of a team made up of monks. Vidal, known to be highly religious, is said to have a tattoo on his back of the Holy Grail. The Pope has allegedly confirmed authenticity.
We asked Vidal for comment, but he has been sworn to secrecy.

It's almost as if he's never gotten things right. Oh wait.

I don't believe the article on the PlayUp app that said Louis had "seemingly put the kibosh on Vidal" was written by Mitten. All of his articles are referenced on the PlayUp twitter account and linked back to him, apart from that kibosh article and a series of articles on player retrospectives from the previous season. It also didn't have his style of writing or title.

Mitten is just a self-confessed super-fan. He knows about as much, if not less, as everyone else.
Hardly just "one of us" is he? He interviews players, staff, works for FourFourTwo and travels the world as a respected journalist.

You're the guy who posted "Agent Edward" for christ sake.

Mitten called the Mata, RVP transfers and Fergie retiring before all. So he is a lot more credible than most. The fact he knows very little either suggests there is no news or United are keeping it water tight.

I don't get it, just because it didn't turn out like you guys wanted suddenly the guy is full of shit? He even said in the Vidal video not to take it as conclusive. Transfers aren't as easy as you spastics presume.

Or there's nothing to know in the first place.

So let's quickly summarize what's happened so far to calm the nerves:

1. Rumours started after the WC, mainly from the Chilean and Italian press.
2. Gazetta and other Italian media outlets reported repeatedly that Juvenutes want to keep him but would sell for the right price.
3. Conte resigns. Claims it was due to a lack of ambition and hunger.
4. Allegri is appointed.
5. English media reporting there is no interest.
6. Vidal claiming he has heard about the interest from United but would decide about his future after his holidays.
7. Andy Mitten saying United interested and hears positive things from "good" sources
8. Andy Mitten backtracking a little bit, saying LvG might not be interested anymore.
9. Italian press still reporting that United can get him for the right price.
10. We are allegedly closing in on him with a bid of around 60 million Euros. (some guy on an Juventus forum claiming we are signing him)

The only thing that's a bit strange is that we were interested in him (he claimed so himself and Mitten as well) and a week later, in late July, LvG suddenly decides he doesnt want him? What, because Cleverley set the world alight with his performance? I don't buy that.
He certainly had made his mind up before and the British press are fed with bullshit.
This might or might not happen but the ones being so sure it's not going to happen because the English media (that has been pretty quiet on this front for quite some time now), shit ones at that, are claiming it might be surprised.
At least that's what I hope.
Also the ones claiming he is in for a bigger contract. I'm not sure he can get that from Juventus.
They are financially not stable and still have signed a couple of players already in this window. They are also very serious about their "no one is bigger than the club" thingy. So I'm not sure he could hold them for ransom. I know we are the same in that respect and Rooney still managed to do so, but isn't it more likely that a big move to a club like United where he will earn a lot more is the reason why it's reported in the media than him trying to force a better contract when he has got one just 12 months ago?

I am tired of Vidal before he has joined us - imagine how much I will hate the guy if he doesn't join us :)

If it's true that LvG is not interested anymore, the only logical reasons would be that either after watching Herrera live he thinks that Vidal is not a good partner for him or that another midfielder who he fancies more became available.

Could well be. Would still surprise me that we are actively going for a player when the manager isnt sure whether to fit him in or not.
Btw in a 5-3-2 I for one think they could flourish...like it would be sex.

So has the fecker talk with his manager yet? I find it odd that he still trains with the team if he has the intention to leave

From the fact no real source of substance has said we are linked, it just looks like we are being used to start an auction, as Juve need cash, how better to that than brief italian and chilean press that United are after him, woody countered this by briefing we are not interested.

This has been dragging on for way too long now. I honestly think if we are interested in him we'll sign him, no matter the fee but thats the question, are we interested in him? We'll won't know until a presser because of how tight lipped the Herrera deal was. As hard as it is not to get distracted by papers giving you news you want to hear, we all just have to wait until its confirmed or denied, sadly.

I have a feeling it will be denied soon enough! I feel it in my plums!

That's what I think, too. We'd need one top CB and we can mount a serious title challenge IMO.

I don't buy the "Vidal and his agent are just looking for a better contract with Juventus." He signed one just last December and is already at the top of the wage list at Juventus. He's not going to get a significant pay rise.
