Arturo Vidal

So there's other offers aswell but ours is the best, I wonder who else it could be, maybe the Scouse?

At least in that scenario there's no real embarrassment for anyone either way. He likes Juve and isn't desperately trying to jump ship or anything. He likes us enough to consider our offer. We've offered a certain level of wages, and Juve have the chance to match them. If they do, he stays, fair enough. If they don't, he goes, also fair enough.

GdS have been all over the place when it comes to figures ranging from 45 to now 60 million. I'll reserve judgement til tomorrow I think everything will be clear either Vidal will say yes or no.
Well surely he will say yes (if rumours are to be believed), or why else would his own agent be even presenting the offer?

And that's one of two times he's mentioned it now.

So no, a striker is not on the cards. Thankfully.

We discussed this earlier:

LvG was referring players who play in the hole - Kagawa, Mata, Adnan, Rooney etc..

No, he wasn't. At a different point in one of the interviews he said 'I have four #10s'. But several times he has specifically said 'I have four strikers'.

And it also tallies with what we actually know and have seen. Rooney is obviously impressing. RVP is Van Gaal's favourite. Welbeck and Hernandez are both begin given game time. That's four strikers. Madness to buy Cavani.

And this is from that article you posted above from the Beeb. Its what i said all along - the squad is unbalanced from us having so many players in the hole - not having 4 main Strikers:

Van Gaal, 62, says his squad has too many playmakers, operating in a free role behind the main striker.

"We have four number 10s, so it is not balanced in my eyes," said Van Gaal.

If Di Marzio and La Stampa start reporting our interest, then I believe there's a real possibility of this happening. As yet, not heard anything from them as yet.

It's gone from €40 million to €60 million in the space of a week. Either it's bullshit or Woody has lost the run of himself.

I might get a bit of stick for this, but I'm really not sure if Vidal is actually worth €60 million.

More like €45 million.

I don't see why people care. We need another midfielder. It's not our money, and we can afford it. If it was a completely ridiculous fee, then fair enough but I never understand when people complain when we don't spend then balk at us paying big fees.

It was merely me thinking out loud more than anything.

And the reason I 'care' is because if we constantly over pay for players then it doesn't bode well for future transfers.

Look how much we paid for "The Mop" - Vidals 10 times the player he is.

I couldnt give a shit how much it costs to get him here - the club have f*cked up CM for too many years & if we get him, it'll be a great day for the club. Keano MKII..

I understand where you are coming from don't get me wrong, Vidal is class.

It's just that we have (in my opinion, of course) overpaid for Fellaini, Shaw and even Mata.

We couldn't even negotiate a deal with Atheltic Bilbao for Herrera so we just paid his release clause.

It all looks like we cannot negotiate the best deals and clubs will most likely milk us for every penny should we continue to overpay.

Read further down that article. He then says the bit I quoted about STRIKERS. Whether he also thinks we have too many #10s or not is irrelevant. He undeniably says we have too many strikers. So he won't buy another one.

Struggling to think how to say this more clearly...

If you go for the best players, you have to pay big money, Vidal is one of the best centre midfielders in the world, hence...big money.

We have tried hard balling and now we are paying what a club can reasonably expect for their star player and there is still moaning.

Our club, on this forum, can't win, ever.

We've overpaid for poor imitations of top-players over the last number of years, so its about time we overpaid (if we have to) for world-class players that are the real deal.

The club is friggin minted beyond the imaginations of any non new-money club & the Rolls-Royce shopping (in this window) shouldnt end here if we get Vidal.

Its nigh on impossible to negotiate with Basque clubs & thats why players from those clubs dont move around so freely without buy-out clauses being paid.

Ander will be well worth the money in my opinion - so will Shaw. No words are needed to describe that wee Mata fella either - he's already been paying off his fee in large numbers. He probably already has through shirt sales..

There's a lot of nonsense in here. We overpaid for Mata? The best #10 in the league? I don't think so. This is a world where David Luiz goes for £50million.

And no-one negotiates to buy Athletic Bilbao's players. They're famous for it. Everyone has a release clause, and you either pay the release clause or you piss off. That's their policy, because with a limited pool of Basque talent available they can't afford to let anyone go willingly.

Herrera is already looking like good value, and most people expect that Shaw will too.

We overpaid for Fellaini, yes. But only because almost any sum would have been overpaying because he's crap and doesn't fit into our team anywhere. That's like me saying 'Chelsea overpaid for Torres, now they'll get robbed every time they buy a player.' Everyone makes transfer mistakes, some small some big, and Fellaini was a big one for us. It doesn't reflect our general transfer policy.

Do you always class an opinion that differs from yours as 'moaning'?

Again, I was merely expressing my viewpoints regarding our transfer policy these days.

We shouldn't have to necessarily be like Manchester City who spunk big money to attract big players.

And, no, you don't always have to pay big money to get quality players.

£47.5m? Give them £50m square, just because feck it, Eddy Swagward.

Feck sake, in a world where David Luiz goes for £50m(worth about a pack of Skittles), Vidal for less looks like a ridiculous deal.

The same paper who said we agreed a deal a week ago.
They made some big claims after Conte resigned so i'm quite sceptical with their news. Unless Di Marzio or La Stampa claim otherwise i'm pretty cautious with the Gazetta story.

Gazetta are barely reliable on this tbh. Won't get excited over their news.

They have been peddling all sorts of figures and bid/agreed deal stories re this from the start.

Like what I'm hearing about the wage offer, I don't think Juventus could match it so Vidal will of course have a desire to leave now.. unless he is very different to every other professional footballer and isn't bothered by the increase which I doubt.

Good deal for them also, they could bring 1-2 very good players, a winger maybe.

Mata was a bit part player for Chelsea that season and was not the best #10 at the time either so your point is rather irrelevant.

Yes, we know he is a good player but you make him sound like he was at the top of his game playing for the best club in the world.

Let's be clear here, Chelsea wanted to get rid of him. With that in mind, we should have got him for less than £37 million.
