Although I agree, we haven't had a lot to be optimistic about regarding Vidal have we.Your pessimism is not welcome.
I try, but I can't. Vidal is an ultra muppet signing for me.
I won't brother, I won't. Until Vidal or United gives an official statement then there is hope as little as it may beThis is why we must cling on until the very end. Don't. Give. Up. Yet.
Manchester?..no, no, no
The quiet before the storm.

Disagree with this. In a 4-2-3-1 I think you're spot on that a Herrera/Vidal/Mata midifield lacks balance and places too much of a holding requirement on Vidal, when you really want him pushing up and effecting the game high up the pitch - both with and without the ball, the latter allowing him to press high up and win possession.
In a 3-5-2 I don't see this as an issue however, with the security of three centre backs there isn't the same requirement for a DM. They offer more focus and ability defensively than a holding midfielder, so the difference someone like De Jong would make would be negligible if he replaced someone like Jones IMO.
In fact, with Herrera and Vidal I actually think an extra centre back compliments that duo better defensively than another pressing midfielder - Vidal and Herrera press already and Vidal in particular is one of the best ballwinners playing right now. An extra defender to be responsible positionally is more of a requirement than another midfielder in there.
Vidal/Herrera/Mata in a 3-5-2 is a great fit IMO and much better than a 4-2-3-1. I agree that there will be a far greater requirement on Vidal to hold than he had at Chile for instance where he played off the forwards, and to a lesser extent a bigger defensive role than he had at Juventus. But the difference is not going to be huge in this system and IMO Vidal could pretty much still play his natural game.

I still reckon it will be De Jong and Depay as opposed to Vidal and Di Maria with Depay staying an extra season in holland to develop
Because we are still working on a deal to sign Vidal. The thing I don't understand is, if that is the case, the deals should have been done by now?. Why would there be any delays in the transfer of Depay and De Jong??. We are three weeks away from the season.
Van Gaal has every right to see United players in action before he makes moves on transfer market. Has there been any actual evidence we're in for De Jong?

Especially when Giggs points out that it was one of his better performances. After cleverlys performance last night Van Gaal surely must see the need for another cm.
I've just watched the game and he was utterly shocking. Seriously under par player. In fact I'd say our frustrating player really showed their worst traits yesterday. Young, Nani, Cleverley and Kagawa were close to useless (loved his turn though). After cleverlys performance last night Van Gaal surely must see the need for another cm.
Delaying the inevitable I'm afraid. I can see next week being pretty shit for us, Vidal stays at Juve and Di Maria signs for PSG.
We must have watched a different game then.I've just watched the game and he was utterly shocking. Seriously under par player. In fact I'd say our frustrating player really showed their worst traits yesterday. Young, Nani, Cleverley and Kagawa were close to useless (loved his turn though).
There has been more evidence we'll sign Vidal than there has been that we'll get De Jong. A lot fans seem to be feeling sorry for themselves after last season and as a result, think we'll end up with a player of De Jong's calibre rather than Vidal's.Has there been any actual evidence we're in for De Jong? He's good at his job but I'd hope we'd be aiming higher than a budget 30 year old City reject. Signing him would only really make sense if we were tight on funds, which by all accounts is a thing of the past. If we're after a DM we should splash out to get a top quality one, or at least one capable of being top quality.

Fingers crossed this is sorted soon. I've heard of the deadline for both clubs being the second of august. I'm praying for an exciting Monday with a new signing.
Where have you heard this?
Perhaps there will be news tomorrow, but if this goes from nothing to having signed Vidal by tomorrow, I'll shit in my hat and wear it.
People seriously underrate just how bad the financial climate is for italian clubs. a prime Tiago silva and a peak Ibrahimovic went for a 50m package... in a day and age where world class cb's might as well be folklore and a 30 goal a season striker still rules the roost. A combination of Juve having an absolutely STACKED midfield and wanting to distribute some of that quality in other areas of the squad, and a realisation from their board that a good offer is too much to refuse right now until Serie A can gain some of its following and sponsorship back after the Match fixing scandles. The most unbelievable thing about all this is the price. 35m GBP for probably the best midfielder in the world right now of his type.
Tomorrow the 28th.When is he back off holiday?
Right, hopefully we hear something tomorrow then.Tomorrow the 28th.
Golf media guru is still banging on about it.
Is it unfair of me to instantly lose all faith in him because he's associating himself with tancredi?

No matter how much you tell yourself you're not going to give hope to this happening... no matter how much you try and convince yourself... you know it's going to hurt when, as always, the clear and obvious quality signing never materialises.
The links with us and Vidal are there because it makes so much sense it's ridiculous.
He's world class, available for the right price (likely a realistic one for his talent in 2014), in a position we are desperately in need of strengthening... we're also crying out for a star player.
Last but definitely not least, it seems that we may not face much competition for him either. The bigger boys of the market have promptly closed on their enviable targets.
