Arturo Vidal

Speaking to my Livepool-knowledgeable mate last night. He seems more hopeful of getting Vidal now that we seem to be. Says that they have £40m plus a big stash of wages ready for one big signing. He reckons Vidal, Reus or Pogba although Pogba is his preference.
Juve fans would fecking tear the place apart if they sold their star player to Liverpool of all clubs. They despise them, given the history there.

Can't believe you reach 300 pages without the slightest hint of interest either from the player or United.

We got here by Vidal admitting our interest in an interview. Also his last interview where he as asked if he will join United was suspect at best. He nervously laughed it off.

Have we had the Tuttosport report on here yet about his agents meeting with the club this week to discuss our bid for him?

I can see Vidal joining Real tbh. Maybe then we can jump for one of Modric, or Khedira if he does.

Best case scenario if we are truly in for Vidal, he doesn't go to a rival club and we sign one of the best midfielders in the world, not to mention I think his defensively contributes are underrated. A Herrera and Modric midfield

Re: the thread title. Wether Vidal is joining us or not, does anybody expect him to say he's coming to United before it's even been made official? His words don't mean anything. We simply don't know.

Its not a remote possibility IMO. Certainly feels like his priority is to add to the defense first and foremost.

I completely agree. If you look at all the top clubs in the world, their midfield pair is vastly superior to us . Real have Kroos and Modric, Barca have Iniesta and Rakitic, Bayern have Schweinsteiger and several choices; when you look at England then we get beaten by the top 4 badly. Vidal really would put us back into the top midfield brackets, or even Strootman. But the possibility is that he sticks with Carrick, Cleverley, Fletcher and Fellaini as a combo.

The best midfielder in world football is coming.

LvG is no stupid. He is a winner and he knows with our current squad we are not match even for Arsenal. Vidal would put us back in title contention singlehandly.

the signs are too obvious (for those who understand them). This is done.

Congratulations, muppets. This thread has just surpassed the Fabregas one and is now only behind these:

Berbatov's: Replies:19,384 Views:1,970,748
Thiago's thread: Replies:15,735 Views:2,624,398
Sneijder's: Replies:13,667 Views:2,398,517
Fabregas': Replies:11,971 Views:1,690,586

With hopes fading, I reckon Sneijder's is the only one left with the possiblity of being beaten, though.

How can something be second behind three things?

Roll call of top muppets contributing to this?

Seriously top players move each and every summer. at some point we are going to have to join the party, or languish outside the champions league. now is the perfect time.

You would think so. There are players available now and we have the money and we certainly have the talk so...

Anyone else hear Amy Winehouse when they read the thread title?

I'm not so sure its over yet but if LVG doesn't want him then so be it, would rather have him in charge of what we have than Moyes with Vidal, Hummels, Kroos and Reus.I am worried that we will be fleeced by Roma for Strootman in January though.

What's the quote in the thread title about then?

Arturo turned us down with words,
Said 'no' a hundred times.
He's back in Turin,
And we've gone back to...

We've gone back to,
We've gone back to caaaaaaaack.

Disclaimers: -I know this isn't the Amy Winehouse song you were talking about.
-I quite like Tom Cleverley.

All right, 10th place, not bad although there's room for improvement. I hope I'll get at least Europa league place before the thread is closed.

Does anyone reckon that van Gaal isn't in fact looking for another CM, and thinks that just the one addition is enough?

It's a horrible thought, I know, but it could be a remote possibility that he thinks this?
I chose to believe LVG isn't an idiot, because idiotic is what it'd be if he wasn't considering another midfielder.

I am glad everyone knows more than Van Gaal about who will and won't be good enough. And to think, that's without taking any practise sessions.

I don't have the same issue I had when Moyes was in charge. I fully back Van Gaal to identify the players he needs (currently in the squad or not) to play in his team.

I posted earlier in the thread that the only bit of the story that couldn't be ascribed to his agent hard at work on the press in Italy and Chile (and, by extension, Spain) was Mitten's belief that we were interested. I still think we were letting his agent act as a go between.

However there was something in Woodward's comments the other day about wanting players who want to come to United. I wonder if that actually means players who, having been offered a high market rate don't come back to us and say that they should also get compensation for no CL? If we feel we're being played, by teasing us with stories about Madrid and Liverpool, it wouldn't be that surprising if we started briefing the press (including Mitten) that we were out of the game. Then there's that unnerving question of the dodgy knee.

If LvG has pulled the plug for purely footballing reasons then I admit, I'm surprised but maybe the reason will be obvious by the end of August. If not, then let's hope it's obvious by next May.
