As long as we sign someone else, I wont lose any sleep over this. I personally still would prefer us to sign a "sitting" DM with good passing like Matic/Busquets etc. I know people will say I am crazy because Vidal is an all rounder, but whats the point if that all roundedness will be marginalised anyway?

This is the thing. All this big talk about big money transfers and big name targets, who is available to buy? Who the hell are they looking at? Certainly not the best players in the world anyway.

I think he will definitely be doing his best to bring one in but if I had to put money on it, I think he would choose a CB over a CM if he could only have one.

As good as he is he can't signed handedly transform our midfield we need another it's just as crucial as another CB.
If Herrera is our lone midfield addition, then God help us.
I don't know if LVG was briefed well enough on the subject, but the only way we can aim high enough and possibly knock the City/Scouse pigs down from their dreamland is to add a hell lot more quality in midfield to match/overcome what they have. We can't go to war unless we get more quality than this and dump the midfield dross off the team.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if we don't get another CM if only because we still have numbers in that position, and quantity of avereage quality is more importat than a lack of quantity at all. With that in mind, you can look at central defence and left wingback as the places we will strengthen first, possibly three players for those positions. They are a bigger priority right now for Van Gaal because on injury to Shaw or any of Jones/Smalling/Evans and we have to tap the reserves who, with all due respect to Michael Keane, are not yet as good as Cleverly/Fellaini/Fletcher/Carrick/Anderson/Powell. I trust LVG to know if he needs another CM. If he can get the best out of our existing CM's, then that's enough. Because as much as we all might like to say "Oh, they're not good enough, look at last season" - we should look to LVG to make a difference in them. If he can't do that, I'm sure he'll sign someone new.

Speaking to my Livepool-knowledgeable mate last night. He seems more hopeful of getting Vidal now that we seem to be. Says that they have £40m plus a big stash of wages ready for one big signing. He reckons Vidal, Reus or Pogba although Pogba is his preference.

It's all well and good offering one player mega wages as a "marquee" star, but generally players want up go to clubs other stars play at and win things, not be a big fish in a small pond - hence why Suarez left.
They're in the CL this year bit have lost one of the worlds best players. If they finish top 4 again it'll be a huge achievement. Those players will have offers from bigger and better clubs more likely to win titles and who can offer comparable wages.

With all the interviews Vidal has done on his holiday makes me think he's off. At one point I thought it would be to us, but not anymore. Didn't he come out with a comment that he would only move to the PL, or Spanish league and if he did it would only be for a historical great club? Or did I dream that?
Anyway, if the above is true then that certainly puts Liverpool in the running for Vidal.

The club has already briefed all the journos that we have no interest in Vidal. Obviously it is not going to make an actual statement about any player not on its books.
Oh but I do. Mitten gets gossip from people close to the club, yes. But he knows as much as we do when it comes to transfers, this summer especially.
I think every single one of us is well and truly bored of this seemingly endless saga, it's been weeks and months since the first rumblings started and all its been is drip fed information, nothing adds up at all. It could be on, it could be off but honestly now we've seen what Herrera can do and the promise of the defence being backed up with recruits we should be hopeful of the season.
It seems it's too early for LVG to buy into wholesale changes and he doesn't seem to believe our midfield is as crocked as we know it to be. His heart almost seems set on Strootman and I'd be shocked if we didn't throw everything at that come Jan.
Maybe Vidal is still on, maybe he's not. At this stage I'd rather forget it's an option and move on. For me Enzo Perez showed great qualities and I'd even be chuffed with Lars or Sven Bender, perhaps Kovacic or Carvalho.
My excitement for Vidal is pretty much almost killed off by all this speculation. It's got to the stage where if it happens then yeah great, if not, meh well move on.
Why not? Bayern have already come out and said they had no interest in Cuardrado when reports said it was almost a done deal they also said the same about Navas.
