Not convinced by Mitten's knowledge, doesn't make sense it took Van Gaal this long to pull the plug, after according to him first showing interest. Either we were never interested in him, Juventus value him too highly, or this is happening. Unfortunately I think it's the fact we were never in for him in the first place though.
Which begs the question who our targets are. After all the talk about unlimited funds, breaking records. Who are they willing to use it on?

You never know, I can see a mental day on the Caf in the next few weeks where something incredible happens transfer wise..

It's well known that 'No, no, no' actually means 'Yes I'm signing for Manchester United in a club record £49 million deal next week' in Italian.

I'm as nervous as everyone but seriously, it isn't August yet. We just had a WC. Vidal has been on holiday. It's hardly surprising we haven't had any resolution on this one way or the other.

I have no idea whether we'll get Vidal, I actually feel quite optimistic we will just because I think the circumstances at the club have become so critical Woodward has to be seen to act decisively. But he may not be able to swing it, or van Gaal may decide he isn't the right player. One way or the other I'm more relaxed than I have been for years that the midfield will be at least reasonable again by the time the window closes. We may not get a galactico but we'll get someone serviceable at least, with a view to a longer term solution - maybe Strootman - in due course.

'Manchester?' 'No, no....'

Maybe flip that around and ask yourself what has happened to make you think it's on.

When did he say it was?

For some reason, if a journo says it's on, everybody says "hey, that's positive, I'm starting to think maybe this could happen", but if a journo says it's off everybody is like "Oh, well, that's it then, close thread".

Very odd.

Next time there is a positive tweet I might post something like "That's that then, he's signed for us, close thread".

Carrick is no world beater and is injured, so what happens if our knight in shining armor gets injured? (Herrera). Herrera's performance the other night is the only reason I'm 'meh' about whether or not we sign Vidal. Huge fan and a muppet dream of course.

I agree. That was the point I was making.

Stay strong people, it's going to be a rocky week but we've potentially got another month to go. Don't peak too soon or you'll burn out too early.

I really thought this summer would be different..

lets face it, we just cannot get the job done when it comes to foreign talent, we even needed 2 goes at Herrera
You're assuming we tried to get the job done with Vidal. Notice that the first denials from the club (or at least multiple reports that we hadn't talked to Juve about him) came just a few days after we reportedly asked the Chilean doctors about his knee.

Do the math. Either we don't want him because of concerns over Hargreaves part deux, or we want a cheaper price than Juve are demanding because of his knee.

Maybe he was saying "know". As in, I know (know know) but you don't.

A ner ner n ner ner kind of thing.
I thought he just misunderstood the question. If someone asked me if I was going to Manchester in an airport, I'd say 'no' (unless I was of course). Especially if someone was asking me the question as I'm quite clearly walking through arrivals. I'd be so confused by what a stupid question it seemed, I'd probably say 'no, no'.

Yup, bizarre indeed. Kroos and Vidal no targets... World class midfielders yet we're not interested apparently. If we go for De Jong in stead I'll have a heart attack.

Agree. The whole "van Gaal doesn't want him" excuse needs to stop, it's embarrassing. Doesn't take that long to actually veto a world class player who every man and his dog know about him. Our boss listened to the club and green lit'ed Herrera signing when he was at Brazil and barely knew about our squad because he's a man who knows what he wants. Mitten just like other journos, they don't got a clue.

Have to agree with this, it's quite ironic how just after Vidal says no in the rushed interview that Mitten says oh Van Gaal doesn't want him any more.

This always had the air of the Fabregas/ Thiago/ Hazard/ Moura/ Sneijder/ Ronaldinho sagas that have awoken our muppet fantasies in years gone by.

Although I'm not going to give up hope until the 31st of August or he signs a new contract.

Van Gaal wanted him at Bayern.

Said he was one of the best midfielders at the World Cup. I refuse to believe Van Gaal doesnt want him or Kroos.

I feel as soon as Madrid came for Kroos, we tried to save face.

Sort of what Im thinking as well. Before they rejected us we reject them. Take that Kroos (although he was my muppet signing, yes even more than Vidal).

Isn't there another thread - no backup muppetry options? "To the...thread!" That sort of thing?

Strootman isn't coming either, I hear

Well who said Vidal saga is over? Have some belief!

Sure - but just the one saga seems a bit meager, you know. The other ones I keep hearing about are too dull to get the blood boiling. De Vrij and such - that isn't proper muppetry.

Arturo Vidal at no time has said that it won't be Manchester United and only said that next week will define its future

Pick yourselves up boys, we've got work to do.

Too much business being done too early imo, at this point last year we had at least Thiago and Fabregas on the go. Kroos and Fabregas would both have had potential but both have moved early. Carvalho looked likely but now seems completely dead.

I think the club wants to avoid another Fabregas embarrassment, on Monday it's either Vidal gets the go ahead for a transfer or he chickens out and Allegri convinces him to stay, if he gets the green light we jump in and make a bid, if RM want him its over i think. Carvalho is not a bad compliment for Herrera, and a second choice who would be happy to sit and hold.

I think the club has tightened up all leaks, even mitten's source doesn't know whats happening anymore;hence him towing the same line as ogden and co.

Wasnt slaggin ya man - just making light of the situation..

Ah right, I was just saying like, what a good factual analysis of this thread with an important footnote to clear up the playful nature and common theme you were drawing upon.

A strong 7/10.
