Rumours on twitter that Van Gaal is going to make a move for Strootman

Now this would fit. Perhaps he wanted Strootman, having worked with him previously and made him captain but his injury meant looking elsewhere.

Now the timing of this culling the Vidal deal and Strootman returning to training early means we're gonna go after him instead and LVG has his original plan back on the go.

Has Andy Mitten ever called anything beforehand? I thought he was just a super fan. I doubt he has any real intimate knowledge of the club's workings.

Too much smoke is possible with Twitter nowadays. Bullshit can also spread like wildfire.
You can look beyond twitter to see most of the smoke. For example:
  • Vidal doesn't take numerous opportunities during interviews to stamp out rumours. In one interview he even mentions United and Real. There are videos of these interviews, so not just twitter bullshit.
  • Conte quits 2 days into preseason training, citing not having the energy to continue as his reasoning. Why not leave earlier then? As he leaves, they had just missed out on Sanchez and Vidal rumours were rife.
  • The Juve board say Vidal will only be sold if he wants to leave, and obviously if the price is right.
  • Evra goes to Juve in a cut price deal.
  • Juve have started buying and are being linked to plenty more players, albeit I'll give you that this one could be twitter bullshit.
  • Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I've noticed that Vidal seems to be making an awful lot of effort to avoid wearing red recently.... Very suspicious if you ask me...

Fuxsake. I only went out and bought a crate load of Vidal Sassoon shampoo...just my way of celebrating the Chilean's impending signature. What am I suppose to do with shampoo and conditioner that I quite clearly don't need?

Last one has me convinced. I'm in the arturON brigade then!!

If the hand-wringing now is all about the 20 second interview Vidal gave at the yesterday then I submit we're on sorry bunch of muptards. On or off who no one here knows, but we know nothing more now about Vidal-to-United than we did 36 hours ago.

As far as not signing anyone so far this summer, the names Herrera and Shaw come to mind. True, their not all-world footballers but they don't have to be in order to be great signings, which they are. And what happened the last few times we signed all-worlders for massive sums? RvP and Mata worked out great, but Berbatov and Veron? Not so great.

It seems a few more have fallen. I still believe he's coming. Who's with me?

I'm still in - but don't take a scrap of notice of what Mitten says

Only the weak have fallen. I'm still with you man! Too much smoke for me to suddenly lose all faith after Mitten says it's off.

By the way, anyone actually got a bit more of what Mitten said other than this one, twitter sized quote?

There is a Play up article somewhere around either a few pages back or in the Twitter discussion supposedly from Mitten. Most of seems to be about describing the size of LvG's head and how weird he found him, strange sort of article

But it's not Ed who decided to buy them, if LvG didn't want them we wouldn't have bought them even if they were targets before LvG
Still confident we'll be signing at least a very good good midfielder and CB - also think there will be a surprise signing
Not convinced yet that Vidal is over (maybe because he was the one I really wanted)...

The club did though Paul - through Ed & i'm pretty sure they insisted on those 2 deals. Ed made it happen!

Look at the deals in place last summer that Moyes vetoed: Garay, Thiago & Strootman. No way United were gonna let Herrera & Shaw slip through the net - considering LvG was pre-occupied with the WC..

LvG works for United - not the other way round. He didnt take a break after the WC because United told him he couldnt. He said that in his 1st presser too. Its rediculous for a manager of a top 3 club in the world not to be on tour with the team anyway - especially given that United have commercial interests in the States..

Vidal is the dream signing, but he's not all we need. We need the same level of quality at CB & on the wings. Its pathetic that we might end up just scraping it with an average squad this season, when Ed continue's to brag about all the dosh we have.

I'm not doom & gloom per se, but i've pretty much given up on transfer saga's now - its becoming a massive come-down since the Herrera & Shaw deals.

So many top-class players are available right now that would make us champs this season & we're playin the waiting game to assess the squad. There's enough football people at United that have realised what areas we need strengthening in. Friggin Fergie's even been caught (several times) saying the club needs a massive revamp & that was last year.

Fair enough LvG wants to assess the squad - but he's wasting time in coming to the same conclusion that every man & his dog has already come to 2-3 years ago.

Whats the point struggling to make an average player better, when you can make a top-class player world class, or make a world-class player even better than he is?!

I hope we've aces up the sleeves, but i'm not filled with confidence anymore. No doubt i'd like to be proved wrong of course!

Once Mitten, twice shy. This isn't over yet.

.

I said all along that he's nothing but a supporter like the rest of us. A nice lad who hears the odd bit of gossip here and there. But no-one listened to me. No one :(

That's because you've no credibility left after the Kreed Kafer incident. Just saying.

Yes Ed is LvG's boss but as per Ed's interview LvG's the boss when it comes to transfers, I believe there will be one or two aces up his sleeve

So lads, after the shambles again can someone tell me who the feck we are after? This window at the moment is more of a head feck than last season. We need to strengthen more than ever.
I'm pretty shocked the Vidal transfer isn't happening. Thought it would be a given with the Evra deal going through.

Why won't the club just come out and say we're not interested and cut these agents that are apparently using us and the gutter journalists off straight away?
Because if they do that, then we'll be asking questions of Woodward like why aren't we interested in top players after he said we can basically buy anyone.

Best speech since William Wallace in Braveheart.

I deft any muppet not to grip his tadger for dear life as he reaches the final three bullet points before whipping it clear from his pants and thrusting it high and proud into the air. "Vidaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal!!!"

So have we hung Vidal out to dry on this? Tell him we're interested and then pull back after he starts talking about publicly. Seems a bit needless. I suppose its all in the game, yo.

Can't do that; mine's attached to my body.

Some of you are pathetic. Van Gaal wanted Herrera, not Kroos, as his midfield playmaker and we have no idea who he wants to partner Herrera with long term. I would love us to sign Vidal as much as anyone else, but these comments about us missing out on Kroos and now Vidal need to go. Pathetic stuff and another case of people being blinded by big names during the transfer window. We got Herrera, stop crying.

If you think that signing Herrera is enough considering the sackload of shite we have in central midfield, you have a serious problem. We have been leaking water for years because of how poor our central midfielders have been while Fergie screwed everything up in the Pogba case at the same time. One big solution (Pogba) was right under his nose for crying out loud.

I always said it and will say it again that the only way you can hope our younger midfielders to learn the job the right way is to have one player at each position who is a top player at the prime of his career. We don't have that in central midfield; Herrera is no veteran by any means.

I know people are saying we need to address teh midfield...but our defence worries me a great deal. We've lost Ferdy, Vidic and Evra, those are three hugely experienced players to go all at once regardless of their diminishing might!

So what? Taking care of the Ds is a separate case of its own while midfield is something we have been crying out loud for the last 4 years now.

Speaking of Evra... If someone knew the Vidal deal would not work out, then Woodward should have never sold Evra to Juve. Anyone else, fine, but not Juve.

Exactly, wonder what our summer 2009 signings were when we lost ronaldo and tevez? along with being champions of england, the world, and league cup winners
Ah yes - owen valencia obertan diouf. So what has changed now?

Except for Owen, the other signings were so short-sighted. God, I really hate our transfer policy when it's clearly unworthy of a big club like United.

After all these pages of us pulling the head off each other over absolute bullshit, we're going to hang ourselves cos one of those bullshits said LvG doesn't want him?

Let me see. Pogba was one big solution but Herrera can't be considered "one big solution". Nice logic you exhibit there. Tell me all about your philosophy degree.

If you read my post again, I said that Van Gaal wanted Herrera as his central playmaker, and not Kroos. So we didn't "miss out on Kroos" as the muppets are all crying. And we simply don't know who Van Gaal wants to sign in midfield to partner Herrera. Let me say it again for the sake of those who need it spelled out on multiple occasions. We (that's us, the fans, and everybody in the media) don't know who Van Gaal does and doesn't want to sign. We (that's us, the fans, and the media again) don't have access to Van Gaal's throne room where he outlines all of his plans for us. Again. We do not have this access or the subsequent knowledge.

So please stop assuming what Van Gaal thinks is and isn't good enough and stop accusing me of saying more than I am. If you want to whinge about every player who doesn't feature in the current manager's plans, go ahead. But stop telling everybody else they have a "serious problem". Thick as two short planks you are.
