Arturo Vidal

Why are you blaming Woodward when it is "supposedly" and "seemingly" LvG who 'kiboshed' the move?

So LVG rejected Kroos and Vidal now. How are we to believe that?? Every manager in football, I guess even the one's coaching in Chinese league probably know that United has a poor midfield , basically next to nothing and LVG goes and rejects two of the best. Its unfathombale.

There are definitely other reasons behind it. We are just saving that to save our faces. The players obviously want to play in CL or more money.

Woody does deserve the blame. He seems to have learned nothing from last season. WC was used as an excuse earlier in the summer, now its two weeks past it and still no signings to fill the gaps in the squad.

Maybe RvP or Kagawa choose yourself.

Not the same. RVP is more of a senior player and Kagawa was established in the German league. I'm talking about Rio, Rooney, Carrick, Shaw. Even jones and Smalling. Premium price for English players. All relatively unproven at the time and not at big clubs. I know about the so called British tax but no sure any team as paid more for British born players than us.

Just a reflection on our transfer policy. If you want to guarantee a utd signing each season, look to the next big British talent at a relative small club.

Hold on...Mitten was the one that started it all of and now this latest bout of muppet e-suicide is because Mitten has said that it's off?? Am even more confused.

Mitten was one of the sources who kept saying he was one of the Primary targets. Other things which have fueled the thread include various chilean TV interviews etc.., nothing concrete..

If we cant get World Class players in, I dont think its solely because of the lack on Champions League.
City, PSG and Monaco were signing world class players like its nobodies business before they were Champions League staples.

If we do fail to land targets this window it would be because we didn't offer the players/agents enough money or our negotiation/transfer department is complete horseshit.

I think he's been over hyped to a great extent and will cost a lot of money, plus Juventus are not a selling club. We could rather buy two functional midfielders who can do the job for the same amount. I'd much rather focus our attention on attainable targets now that we are a month away from the window closing.

Woody doesn't decide which players we go after, that is only down to the manager as he said, and that we have the funds to go for that or those player(s). I seem to recall that we have signed two players since the WC finished

vidal and kroos, clearly are not man united quality. not when you have the sterling midfielders we have presently.
I can't imagine we turned either of them down. We would literally be fecking insane to do so as our midfield is still very weak.

Just got here to see this, is this a new development to his arrival at the airport yesterday ?

Vidal is a great player but just not a utd one. These players rarely are. We have a clear DNA. Young, British talent and our transfer policy is second to none for signing them. Ready made superstars are a rarity at this club.

Us turning down Kroos and Vidal is a bit like me turning down Heidi Klum and Gisele bundchen

What's the last big player we signed from a top team or a player that's it was apparent other top teams also wanted?
I would say Veron. It's not the utd way. The only players we generally go big for are English. We've must have record for the highest fees for English talent?

I answered to bold part of the question. Hell i even forgot Mata who we signed half a year ago.

As about english players "the biggest flops" were non-english players like Fellaini and Berbatov and we spent a lot on them. We also spent £29m on some spanish midfielder without any caps for national team this transfer window ;)

With the way City and Chelsea are strengthening titles will probably be a rarity at this club as well if we keep this up.

I'm not particularly bothered if we don't get Vidal. Him and Herrera would get in each other's way IMO.

I will be shocked and disappointed if we don't signing at least one but hopefully two quality midfielders though.

An injury to Herrera and we will be relying on Cleverley,Anderson or Fellaini for the whole season.

United / Ed signed Herrera & Shaw. They were not LvG signings - Van Gaal said that himself.

The spotlight is on Van Gaal now - not Ed. Then again, we havent a friggin clue who we're after, but we sure as hell better be after top-class CM's & CB's.

Cleverley proved the other night how useless he was compared to Fletch - nevermind Ander. Playin & relying on a back 3 CB combo is leaving us fecked if they get injured - they're not United standard anyway, apart from Evans - who has his moments then gets injured & is out for months in total.

I dont care if we dont sign him, but if he goes to a premier league team and it isn't us then SERIOUS questions need to be asked. Id die if he singed for Liverpool

The last time I looked, utd didn't have a squad of 22 English players. I'm fully aware of the foreign players we've bought but that's not my point. The point is when it comes to British talent, money appears to not be a option. We have the transfer records for this. When it comes to talent elsewhere, we are not prepared to take the same approach. If the Spanish player was English, we'd of paid the money last year!!!! Also, he's not the best of the Spanish talent, like shaws the best of English. Also, it's not like we outbid Real and Barca for him, in the same way it appears we outbid Chelsea for shaw. That's my point...

I agree that we need two midfielders, but who the options for top midfielders are very limited, can't see Carvalho at the quoted figures and he would be a big risk, schweinsteiger would be my pick but just can't see it at all, for some reason Kherdira doesn't seem to be an option, McCarthy links are non existant, even De Jong isn't been seriously linked.

It's very hard to see right now who we could go for that will improve us greatly.

World class midfielder possibly available and we're not in for him, makes sense.... If we are signing blind and de Jong, I will not be expecting any trophies this season. 2 average signings to say the least.

None of the clubs you mention buy players that are also wanted by Real or Barca at the same time. They buy second tier players, who are still good players, but they are not top shelf. I don't believe for one minute that City, Chelsea & Co weren't interested in the likes of Rodriquez. These clubs don't go after players that they are unlikely to get because of the top clubs interest. Also, I would expect many Foreign players just don't want to come to England, full-stop.

But it's not Ed who decided to buy them, if LvG didn't want them we wouldn't have bought them even if they were targets before LvG
Still confident we'll be signing at least a very good good midfielder and CB - also think there will be a surprise signing
Not convinced yet that Vidal is over (maybe because he was the one I really wanted)...

We'll sign another midfielder but I don't expect him to be a premium player. It will be a player that can play that system well. LVG teams are about the sum of all the parts.

Blind would be my guess then, can cover LB too, and maybe even CB, our new John O'Shea maybe.

It's a shame really the midfield was one area I didn't want us to compromise on this season, if we had to compromise would rather it had been in defence.

Time to lock the thread and put it away into the vault with the Thiago one.
