Arturo Vidal

I find it absolutely incredible, in this day and age, that pissing off with your family to a nice hotel by a beach means you're incapable of making any decisions about your career until you next touch down at your domestic airport.
Iirc he emphasised how he wouldn't consider his future until his holiday was over, LVG just finished his World Cup campaign and started work a few days later but obviously that's too much to ask of Vidal, he clearly seems to be loving the speculation and feels he has the luxury of making United wait until he feels like it. Tbh he comes across as a right egotistical twat. A part of me wishes we'd tell him to stick it but his class is undeniable so I guess we'll play ball.

We could be out of the running by January, if we don't get another midfielder. Fletcher, Fellaini and Cleverley aren't going to support Herrera, either, so we'd be wasting the talents of a potentially very good player.

I agree and also what if Herrera gets an injury, we are back to square one. A shite midfield.
If we cant sign Vidal I would like to see De Jong here as a stop gap (although we wont tell him that) even though a lot of people dislike De Jong I think he would bring a lot of steal to our hot knife through butter midfield quartet of Fletcher, Carrick, Cleverley and Fellaini.
Whatever happens LvG is not clueless - he can see that Fletcher is way past his best, Carrick is not getting any younger and also out for three months, Fellaini is just gash unless played up top and Cleverley tends to always look good in pre season or training but when the big games starts he suddenly becomes all panicky and shite. We also do not have Giggs to call upon in desperation like last year so Vidal or not another midfielder must be signed in this window.

It all depends. I think Vidal knew or had some knowledge at least of Conte possibly leaving. The only way he can sort out his future is to have a face to face and sometimes technology etc doesn't do such a talk justice. Some folk also feel the need to do things like that in person. I'd imagine Vidal would want to talk to the new manager face to face as well as the Juve management. However, like Vidal's said himself, his agent is taking care of things.
I highly doubt Vidal would be privy to info like that.

I don't think it's about decisions as such, I think those have been made. I think it's more a case of medicals or coming in for formal discussions between the two clubs. He's just had a long season with Juve, followed up by 2 months of World Cup and it's preparations. He's had a 3 week holiday which has included a lot of commitments to various organisations in his local area like old club, schools and what not. It's understandable that he would rather relax and enjoy that time than cut it short when the window is still open for another month.

On top of that, as he is apparently still getting that knee rested and back to 100% there's no reason to rush back into a pre-season.

Maybe he just doesn't want to.

"I'm going on holiday for 3 weeks with my family, leave me the feck alone and I'll let you know my decision when I get back".

Not exactly far fetched. Fans getting impatient isn't really his concern.

Exactly. Why should he care about the state of F5 on people's keyboards?

When a club the size of Manchester United come knocking, you leave your holiday for a day or two to get it sorted ASAP if you actually want to move to the club, it's not like he can't afford a couple of extra flights. In this day and age where players are held up to god like status and seem to run rings around clubs, his prioritising of his holiday doesn't surprise me one bit.

Poor didums works so hard and has it so tough, does he want to swap with 99% of the population? The simple fact is, if he really wanted to get the move sorted, he could take a small break from his "well earned" holiday.

I dunno, obviously not the same thing but I usually only turn my phone on once a day on holiday and have a voicemail saying I'm not available for however long. Obviously if something absolutely urgent came up I'd deal with it but I ignore everything else. I suspect he either knows that we have no issue allowing him to take a holiday, which we'd have done anyway if he was our player, or he feels that if we're so interested we'll wait until he gets back. I'm sure he could cut his holiday short, but I'd guess we've either spoken to him and agreed a timescale, or we haven't, in which case why would he be worrying about a bid that might never come?

Or, the possibility that in all likelihood he's taking the time he's spending on holiday to decide whether to uproot his family and move them to another country, so he can play in another league, for a team that didn't do so well last season?

It's not exactly an easy choice, especially when he seems to have such a close connection with Juventus as it stands.

Where did I say that he has to care about what the fans think/say or do? But do carry on.

You seem extremely het up over this whole saga.

Unless you're privy to the actual conversations that have taken place I suggest you take a moment, chill the feck out and learn some patience.

It's not like it matters a jot whether we sign him last week or next week, he's resting his knee so he wouldn't be part of the tour anyway. If it's going to happen then it'll happen; him having the audacity to take a holiday with his family won't get in the way of that.

And herein lies the crux of my problem with that attitude, football star can't cut his holiday short to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world, for a salary that could feed a country or two in Africa for a year. Yeah I stand by what I said, that does make him a right egotistical twat but obviously I'm being completely unreasonable.

Yeah, how dare he spend rare time in his home country, visiting his boyhood club, opening athletic centers for children, being involved in the community, doing other charity work, etc. fecking selfish twat. He should have foregone the vacation that every other World Cup player had, and gotten right into training, especially while recovering from knee surgery that didn't heal before the WC. He got injections to play in Brazil, why can't he get injections to train in the preseason? Selfish twat needs to think about the transfer muppets out there instead of himself.

Oh f.uck off with that boring "footballers have it so hard" speech. In a World Cup year they have less holiday than you or I and do a physically exerting job that requires that there body should be in peak condition which at the end of a season like that requires a proper rest.

Also how many charity commitments do you tend to take up on your personal holidays?

At least you realise it now.

Nick, you originally replied suggesting that I had said he was an egotistical twat as he's keeping the fans waiting, I said no such thing. I don't see what him flying to sign a few documents has to do with not being able to rest his knees.

I suppose it depends on what your view on the situation is. For all we know he might be willing, but the clubs haven't agreed anything. In which case this is all moot. Why would he come back to watch us dither and feck around for a month culminating in us not signing him?

Or, as I suggested above, we have agreed something and we're working on the basis that he'll be back when he would have been due back anyway, given that we'd have given him a holiday. I don't see why he'd come back early for that. I don't really see why we'd want him back early for that. He was injured. He seems to have played against some medical advice in the WC. Chile got reasonably far, so he's due a break with his family who probably haven't seen him for the better part of a month and a half.

None of which even mentions the pretty likely scenario that we're not in for him and he's using us to generate interest.

This is so wrong. There is no need to rush this move and people should know it. He is recovering from injury and need long time of to give some rest to his knee. It is not like we should sign him ASAP to adjust him into system . He can't train so it is no reason to rush the move.

And of course Juve just lost there manager and they would like to bring new players in before loosing theirs best player. And Van Gaal also said that he will give a chance to the players and it will not be looking like we gave a chance to some midfielders if we rush to bring Vidal in.

I'm not saying that we already made some kind of a deal with Juve but we could have deal in place and we just delay with announcement untl he comes from his holidays and is ready to start training. It is so logical but some muppet are just to impatient.

Yea that was an exaggeration.

I just think your impatience is clouding your judgement on the whole matter. You're accusing him of acting like he can keep United on hold just because he wants to and he's loving the attention of the whole thing, when there's really nothing to point to that at all.

He went straight from the Italian season to the WC and now he's on holiday with his family. It's really not so much to ask that he's allowed to finish that holiday before tying up the transfer. If it's happening.

My point with his knees is that there's no urgency, so waiting for him to finish his holiday has absolutely no down side. Apart from a bunch of broken F5 keys, obviously.

I do as much as possible to ignore my current job when I'm away on holiday but there's no chance I'd be switching my phone off or ignoring calls if I was likely to be getting updates about my dream new job.

Obviously this won't be the main motivation but if we'd signed him a few weeks ago and he wasn't ready to train or play until August, he'd have cost us something like a million quid based on the wages being suggested in the media.

You should be an accountant with strategising like that.

But why? He's on holiday with his family. Who cares about 'swapping with the rest of us'. You're not really making any sense.

For all you know it's already been agreed in principle...or maybe we really aren't actually after him.

All signs points to Strootman becoming our number 6. However, he is out till October.

I would love to see Ruben Loftus cheeks here as a short time solution. He is mature beyond his age and he will make a great partner to Herrera. Other than that, I believe Carvalho will be the perfect number 6, but his addition will conflict with Strootman. As such, I can not see him arriving if we are interested in Strootman.

Maybe it's not his new dream job. Might be he is quite happy where he is, but would listen to better offers if one came along.

I don't mean this to be inflammatory, but would Juve sell to Liverpool? Considering the history.

People saying Vidal isn't the right partner for Herrera but Strootman is, I was of the impression that Vidal and Strootman are quite similar types of players with Vidal being of higher quality?

Well they sold them Poulsen just a few years ago (yeah he was crap). If they are open to the idea of selling Vidal and Vidal is open to the idea of moving to Liverpool then I think that the only thing that will matter to them is which club offers them more money. Thankfully for us we can easily blow Liverpool out of the water on that front.
