They need funds. They missed out on both Iturbe and Sanchez because they couldn't afford to pay the transfer fee.

United never seem to get their required targets, its always been the case where we miss out on another target, and this has to stop and united gain that iron fist

We'll see I think under Sir Alex and Gill they were to set in their ways and it held us back a little.

I think Woodward realises that now. Especially after last summers farce of a transfer window. He no longer has he someone dithering about who they want in there team, now we have a strong, minded, no-nonsense manager with winning mentality and knows what he wants.

With SAF/Gill, you wouldn't see them going out spending 40-odd million on a player but then SAF was a very special manager who got 110% out of everyone and basically built the club the way everyone sees it today so he had time on his side in terms of bringing through the youth and developing them over the years (Class of '92 to be an example). LvG is a genius but even he realises that United need re-enforcements in midfield/defence and he doesn't have time to develop the youth players in his image so Woodward will have to pay more than what we would normally to get the players we need now. If that means paying 40 million for Vidal, so be it. In todays money, he's worth it. Of course, LvG will be working with the youth so that in a couple of years or so, he will have players coming through with his philosophy in mind.

In today's game, managers aren't given years to put their mark on clubs, they have to do it within a season. LvG has 1 season to get us back into the Champions League. If we finish outside the top 4 again, I can't see him being here next season but I can't see that happening anyway. I know it's only one game, but I've seen enough from that game to tell me that LvG is the perfect man for United and he'll get us back into the Champions League and even win the title but I'd be happy just for us to be in the Champions League. I'm really excited for the up & coming season with Herrera & Shaw already on board. If get Vidal and a couple of CBs, we'll be putting up a fight of the title come May next year.

Haha I imagine Woodward and Co scrambling around looking for players for Juve. "how about this guy, he looks big and strong, ey, ey"

If he is the complete midfielder, why in the hell would juventus even think of letting him go? and that is the problem with getting him.
Because they're in debt, despite of being Italia champion, they're not really making real profit so they need to balance their account and that's including selling players. The point is Vidal is 27 and at his peak so unless he personally wants to stay at Juve for a long time, this is the right time to sell him. Unlike Pogba, Vidal's price tag is likely going down every years from now on.

Anyway, who knows what's LvG thinking, if he really think Vidal is crucial for his system, noone would say anything oppositely but we know that isn't him. LvG is not 'forced' to win anything in his first season so he may just feck it and promote/sign some promising youngsters instead.

So many rags reporting Liverpool being in for Vidal now.

It couldn't happen, could it? :nervous:

Sounds to me that the Liverpool rumours are being fed to the media to hurry United along for the deal. What could be worse for United than losing a potential marquee signing to their bitter rivals?!

It's all gone a bit quiet eh? Even the rumours have died and the papers have run out of crap to write about this.

I reckon it's dead in the water. I'm just waiting until Vidal returns for confirmation.

I'd like to see us not feck about here. Big offer, big wages...midfield sorted for the next 5 years.

I still think we have everything agreed and in place pending his return from holiday followed by an official bid, agreement and the following medical which it is hinging on.

I'll beat you to it, don't you worry about that.
I dunno, I've been playing Hitman a lot recently - if those skills are directly transferable to real life, and I see no reason why they wouldn't be, then I'm pretty quick.

Why "No Chance" ?

And why is it so certain he'd come here. I dunno why but I've got a bad feeling about this.
I think he will stay at juve. Juve fans aren't very fond of the scousers for obvious reasons. If he loved them that much I don't think he'd move there.

I also think he'd have better options than Liverpool.

Difference is? ronaldo wanted to go there badly, I do not think vidal has that same determination to leave juve, and that is the problem. Plus Madrid always get what they want, which is something we never seem to do

True but we can only hope.

If any of the rumours are actually true then;
*we are offering him wages Juve cannot match
*he can join our 'project' - the famous line most footballers use when joining for monetary reasons!
* his age now is ideal for securing that last big contract.
* United are the biggest club on the planet so apart from going to Real which looks very unlikely his commercial appeal and fame will not get any bigger than if playing for us.

Obviously he might love living in Italy and want to stick to formula and play at a club where the fans adore him or he might want to prove himself the best box to box midfielder in the world(which he himself claims) and join the LvG revolution and help take us back to the top tier of European football.

I would not call united the biggest club on the planet, not even close. Madrid and Barca I would call much bigger and more attractive clubs for 70% of players today, ronaldo 2008 proved the case when we won the CL

If he signs for the dippers I'm going to hunt down and kill Pexbo.

I'll beat you to it, don't you worry about that.

I feel the same way, everything has already been set up and its a matter of time before its announced.
I'm more worried about who we are going to get a winger at this point.

You're talking player pull, we are arguably the biggest club in the world only Madrid have an argument there.

I don't even care if we sign Vidal anymore I just want this to be finished.

It could. As ever it will come down to money - transfer fee and wages with a bit of Champions League qualification (them) and Manager prestige (us) thrown in, but mainly money

United are the biggest not the best. Commercially and by fan base we are for sure. Also the highest valued club according to Forbes latest list and we don't get to drain all the TV money or be backed by the shady Spanish government like Real do.

Barcelona of course have that appeal especially to South Americans. Bayern are also huge and better than us on the pitch but that is not my point. I'm suggesting a transfer to Real looks less likely than to us also Barcelona do not need him, nor Bayern for that matter. I also point out that he could go some way to helping us get back to being one of the best on the pitch again which we are currently some distance away from.

Even if we don't/can't get Vidal, there's no doubt we need another midfielder.

Me thinks that Juve are leaking the stories about liverpool's supposed interest to try and get us to either bid or to be higher. I don't see Vidal leaving Juve, who are guaranteed CL football for liverpool who might not be after next season.
If Vidal's holiday is what's holding up this deal, he should cut his holiday short, if he really wants to play for us and try and push it through.

I find it absolutely incredible, in this day and age, that pissing off with your family to a nice hotel by a beach means you're incapable of making any decisions about your career until you next touch down at your domestic airport.

If we can't get Vidal then we should just wait for Strootman. No point buying mediocre players for the sake of it.

We could be out of the running by January, if we don't get another midfielder. Fletcher, Fellaini and Cleverley aren't going to support Herrera, either, so we'd be wasting the talents of a potentially very good player.

Maybe he just doesn't want to.

"I'm going on holiday for 3 weeks with my family, leave me the feck alone and I'll let you know my decision when I get back".

Not exactly far fetched. Fans getting impatient isn't really his concern.

It all depends. I think Vidal knew or had some knowledge at least of Conte possibly leaving. The only way he can sort out his future is to have a face to face and sometimes technology etc doesn't do such a talk justice. Some folk also feel the need to do things like that in person. I'd imagine Vidal would want to talk to the new manager face to face as well as the Juve management. However, like Vidal's said himself, his agent is taking care of things.
