Arturo Vidal

I actually don't see this happening now. With van Gaal choosing to implement three at the back we need two more centre-backs and a left-back, our remaining transfer funds will be spent on Vermaelen, de Vrij and Blind.
Woody said we can break the world record transfer fee on one player if we want.

And you believe him? We must be the only club in the world that promises spending without actually spending so regularly.
Arsenal did it for years until the bought Ozil. Saying Wenger has all the funds he needs to buy anyone every single season and he bought cheap crap.

Unlikely given Wooward's comments, not? Especially since the sums in the media weren't that outrageous.

to us and its not our money there is little difference between 40 million and lets say 47 million. to the club that is a big deal. They wont be held ransom by juve as well. Its take it or leave. we will go else where. Which is the right way to do things IMO

Nah, don't think it's anything to do with money. More like Van Gaal wants someone else like Strootman.

privately id say vidal is numero one. but he wont lose sleep if he doesnt get him. It is obvious that they have inquired, whether anything comes of it, i dont know.

If Vidal wants to come, then it will be on (assuming LvG wants him) - the money is not an issue imo
Money is an issue because we won't spend over the odds, and Juventus will want silly money.

van Gaal is the biggest signing of the window, and I don't think he'll be overly pushed if we weren't to sign Vidal. Strootman is a capable backup option.

i agree

He will be back from holiday tomorrow, and that's where it will all kick off again!

Tomorrow? I thought monday, but that would be fine, at least some news there^^^

I still expect him to do a Thiago, coming back from vacation and then staying at Juve or choosing another club. And of course we were never interested and Vidal saying: "United was never a option for me." :(

Agree but Juventus need some money coming in so there may be some posturing but in the end don't think the money would be a deal breaker

Despite the pessimism from some of you I think it is inevitable that Vidal will leave Juventus. Now whether he goes to us or not is another question. He is 27 and has a contract with Juventus until 2017 so his next contract will be the one where he maximizes his earning power. That's not going to happen in Italy. If he comes to England he will have the chance to double his salary and if he comes to Utd he will be a leader in our transformation.

Some reports have said the 25th, some have said the 28th. I think it would make sense that he's leaving vacation tomorrow, spending a couple of days at home in Italy, and is due to report to Juve on Monday. Or am I thinking too logically on the matter, especially for a Caf transfer saga?

Who are the actual other alternatives, assuming we have to sign another CM.

I didn't believe Woodward last summer and slated him often, this summer I can tell the man is trying and focused on the job (last summer he was more focused on signing sponsors).
I believe in him this year and I think he will deliver.

Honestly, his words has left him no option but to deliver.

I believe that both Vidal (and his agent) sees things from that perspective.

Juve clearly wants to do business and Vidal doesnt seem opposed to going.
Juve is not averse to selling their stars (Baggio, Zidane) if the price is right.

If Juve arent acting unprofessionally and keep upping the price (we just sold them Evra so its clear business relations between the clubs arent bad), then we conclude our interest in the player like we did with Cesc and Kroos and move on but I dont feel as if thats the case.

This seems like its done but there is some sort of waiting game going on, I believe the conclusion to the story will be the same and its a matter of time.

There could be loads of 'waiting games' going on:

Waiting for Vidal to come back from holiday
Waiting for Vidal to decide if he want to leave Juve
Waiting for LVG to assess his new squad
Juve waiting for the right time to sell after their manager leaving
Juve waiting on selling whilst recruiting players with the Vidal cash more cheaply
Waiting for medical reports to come through from various channels
etc...

Big business deals are hard. Although we may have plenty of money, no CEO of a multimillion(billion?) pound company wants to piss away money. That's not how you build & maintain a billion pound company.

So apparently he has ruled out a move to Manchester United? Really should have seen this coming, don't know why I thought this summer would be any different.

Poor didums works so hard and has it so tough, does he want to swap with 99% of the population? The simple fact is, if he really wanted to get the move sorted, he could take a small break from his "well earned" holiday.

Where has he said he has it tough? He's just going to decide what to do after his holiday. Why shouldn't he?

This doesn't even hurt. While I would have loved him to sign for us, I've never thought that is was actually going to happen.

At least we know the club aren't holding back if they don't sign Vidal. The club clearly do not want a repeat of last season. They are willing to spend alot of money. But sometimes clubs do not let star players go without a big fight. So atleast we tried hard to sign Vidal regardless of whether we get him. What more can we ask for? It's not like previous targets whom I'm not sure we were ever seriously in for.

I don't see anything odd about the pause.

He's a player that could fail a medical. If I was him there is no way I would announce to the world, I'm off to United - arrivederci Juve, unless I already had the scans in my hand that said it was possible. The initial reports from Chile said he needed 4 weeks rest before the knee could be reassessed. We're just about there now. He's due back from training.

I reckon he'll know his options next week and then it'll be back to the question of whether or not we're interested. The English press say no, Mitten says we are if we keep getting the right answers. I'm sticking with the we're interested version.

I like this post. A lot.
