Arturo Vidal

Are you sure sir? It does mean changing the bulb!

We'll just paint it instead so we can always wash it off should some shit Journalist write a nonsense article about him not coming here again.

Compare any transfer one to one and you won't find a correlation there are too many factors which can tip it either way.

Does the club want to sell?
How rich is the selling club?
How much does the buying club want to buy him?
How many people are bidding for him?
How long is left on his contract?
Whats his commercial value?
How old is he?
How much does the player want to leave?
What league is the player coming from?
Whal league is the player going to?

Every single one of these factors can swing a deal by a considerable amount so with that in mind, how can there be such a thing as a "market value" for a commodity that is itself so unique?
I understand all that. A lot of variables meaning a very broad range. However, like I said, it is possible to identify something that is detached from market value. Or maybe even that is subjective, maybe some people look at what we paid for Fellaini and say, "hhhhm, his club didnt want to sell, the buying club was rich and desperate, he is reasonably young... therefore, actually that price is reasonable." I suspect most people would be able to say, there is no way he is worth that, we were ripped off. If you can say we were ripped off, the idea of fair value is implicit.

I think the thing is, with a lot of things fair value is a price, with this, given the number of variables as you said, it isnt a price, its more of a range. Anything between X and Y is fair for this player. But outside that you are either getting as ridiculously good deal or an equally bad one. As in the case of Fellaini, Carroll or numerous others.

How much are United actually willing to pay for him? Would they pay a big fee Juventus want? £45m? £55m?
We won't know. Van Gaal clearly rates Vidal and Woodward going by his interview isn't afraid spending big to get the best.

To be fair, I think he actually boots the turf hard, probably felt like he was clattered.

They showed the slow-motion replay of it that night. It looked like his heel was very lightly clipped, which sent his stride all over the place, and he ends up twatting the turf. A little similar to that Fernando Torres one from 2010 against Chile, where he got a little clip on the heel and it looks like he ended up assaulting himself.

Heel taps are deadly, and often hilarious.

Yes but you are talking about judging a player on an individual basis and working out whether he was good value for the deal, that's not the same as market value.

What Im saying is what I said earlier: I agree it is very hard to pin down exactly what a market value is, but you can see what it isnt. And if you can see what it isnt, it must exist, regardless of how hard it is to pin down, due to all the variables.

It depends how many positions they feel they need to improve. Tbf, even if they sell Vidal, you'd still consider them the favourite to win the Serie A, I would anyway. If they think they can win the league and save some money in the meantime, why not?

Because their ambition should be higher than winning Serie A. Besides with Roma significantly strengthening this Summer I don't think Juventus will have it easy, especially with a new manager who isn't exactly known for winning even if he has managed one title with Milan.

Ahh right, I remember the fall, but I couldn't remember that much, might have been watching a different match.

I trust Patrice has been given a brief on what to do as his last act as a United player when he gets to Turin. He'll grease the wheels for ut, bank on it.

The best players are going for over £50m and upwards now. Until Woodward actually delivers a player like that what he says in interviews isn't much to go by. Yes Mata cost £37m and is a promising sign but it's still some way off what other clubs have paid for tier 1 targets. Fingers crossed we are willing to push the boat out to these numbers as players like Vidal and Di Maria will not come for less.

They don't have a good enough team to win the CL and they don't have the finances to improve enough to win it, so Serie A and perhaps a cup is the best they can hope for imo. Roma may give them a challenge, yes, but the're still quite far off Juventus in terms of talent imo and I fancy Juve to win again whether they sell Vidal or not.

If Vidal indeed does leave, Roma look just as strong as Juventus, if not more so. I fully expect Roma to challenge for the Scudetto this season and it wouldn't surprise me if they go further in the Champions League than their Turin counterparts.

So James is done and we haven't signed him yet, that worries me a little. I still have the feeling, Real will come and hijack the deal. We are just too slow. When did our negotiation tactic ever help us? In the last few years we didn't get the player or we paid still a huge fee to get him. We paid the release clause for Herrera and got him a year too late. We overpaid for Shaw, Matas fee was immense, the cheeky bids for everton were just laughable, etc...

If the player wants to us like van Persie or no one else is interested it's ok and we still get him, but when another team arrives we will miss out again, so I hope we will do it in the next few days. And yeah I know other huge transfers need their time too, but still other teams have slow transfers and pretty fast transfers, for us everything seems to going slow. Just look how Real or Barca signed their players for 80 million euros.

The Vidal stories won't die in Italy and Chile. Woodward can talk the talk but it's about time he put his words into action on the transfer front.

Yes. It's seems years ago now that we signed Shaw and Herrera. Hat a week that was, now just tabloid rubbish. Hoping for another week like that.
Doesn't help with players getting transfers here, there and everywhere. Really hope we strengthen soon

Woodward does need to deliver all his talk is useless until he does. But agree it's promising because we've not dithered over prices for Mata, Herrera or Shaw I don't think Gill or Sir Alex would have payed the money.

Woodward knows the benefits of signing big names so here's hoping.

Is that the Egyptian match youtube clip of a guy falling over his own foot whilst throwing some feints as he went to take a pen  ?

Embarrassingly funny.

:lol: I just watched that one. Very funny and he got booked.

I was thinking this one:

Very pessimistic view.

Arguably, James was wrapped up quickly because Monaco knew they were getting silly money, so didn't feel need to haggle.

You imply we're slow in the transfer market, yet we seemed to wrap up Shaw and (especially) Herrera with minimal fuss.

Was Mata really that expensive? Look at some of the other transfer fees floating around.

You suggest we struggle to sign players if other clubs become involved, but we signed RvP ahead of City and Juve.

I was in a dreadful mood most of last summer, but with LvG at the helm, I've got nothing but confidence. It's clear we're no longer briefing the media, whereas it was open season a year ago.

I've no doubt we will wrap up at least another couple of signings well before the end of the window.

Would rather this saga that : "United are confident of etc." BS we were served last year. I'm very confident about Vidal coming in, a lot less about Hummels though.

Even if he is on a holiday, ideally the club would have wanted to sign him as early as possible and then move on to the other targets. The club may be comfortable with the situation at the moment, certainly looking at Woodward's interview gave that feeling, but entering the final month of the window with plenty of our business still unfinished is not what I had expected when the season ended.

Why is everyone under the impression it is just one signing at a time. How many times have we announced multiple signings at the same time to disprove this notion?

When have we announced multiple big signings at the same time? Never apart from Nani and Anderson one of whom had a release clause anyway. When you are talking about complex deals involving huge sums of money then they tend to take up a lot of the time of the people working behind the scenes to make it happen. We spent the majority of last summer chasing Fabregas and look where it left us.

Can't agree with minimal fuss? Shaw was a long enough saga, we were already interested under Moyes and we paid too much for him and that was the reason why no one else was interested. Herrera begun already last summer, where we tried to negotiate with Bilbao, which was not really clever. Mata was ok for me, but Mourinho want to get rid of him and he wasn't a starter for him, so the fee was not low at all, both sides were happy after the signing.
I mentioned van Persie as exception, because he just want to join us, but everytime we have to fight against other clubs, our tactics give us the disadvantage. And those tactics never proved to be good anyways, so I just hope we don't do it again, our only bargain in the last seasons was Kagawa, for every other player we paid more than enough. So I just hope we don't try to get Vidal a little bit cheaper and just pay the remaining millions to finish the deal quicker, otherwise I can see another club like Real, who have now time for another signing, entering and beating us again and that would be much worse than paying 50 million instead of 43 million euros.
With LvG I am also much more confident, but I still think our approach is sometimes just too complicated if you look how easy other big clubs sign their players, we are Manchester United ffs :D

Can you still see the thread on there? It comes up that it has been moved for me and I don't have permission to view it.
I think they added a minimum post count to view it, so new members/Caftards can't see it.
