€10.5 million fee was paid by Juventus to acquire the services of Vidal in the 2010/11 season on a 5 year contract from Bayer Leverkusen.

That's criminal when you look how good his turning out. That would have been the same summer Ozil, Khedira, Sahin, Gundogan all moved clubs at ridiculously low prices and we didn't go for any of them.

Ozil chose to go to Madrid, Gundogan was definitely linked to us before he made the move to Dortmund.

Modric is another from Zagreb. But then at the time Scholes was still running the show, so there wouldn't have been a need for his kind of midfielder.

Fair point about Ozil. Our scouting was non existent in the Bundesliga at that time, surely SAF would have jumped at the chance to sign Vidal had we been scouting him.

I'm sure we must've scouted him but I feel maybe our transfer strategy at that time was to look for prem proven players, Ashley Young, Valencia and Owen were bought around the same time.

I may be wrong but I'm sure SAF even confirmed he wasn't scouting the Bundesliga at that time. But after transfer window seeing players move on the cheap we started looking hence why we signed Kagawa, showed interest in Lewandowski ect....I think so as well but it was depressing I remember the 09/10, 10/11 transfer windows being incredibly underwhelming.

Nani hasn't done a whole lot in a very long time. The guy is nearly 28, I wouldn't be too disappointed if he left.
But still is our only wide player who has shown he can be quality. Unlike Young and Valencia who have both received consistent football for 2 seasons and have been utter dross, at least Nani has the excuse for being injured the majority of the time. I'd rather keep Nani and sell of Young which would be the wiser decision.

£40.5m for Vidal would be amazing. I don't know why I'm even toying with the possibility of it happening (but I can't help it). I'd happily use Nani as part of any deal, although I doubt they value him more than £10-15m (max).

It's likely we won't sign a proven wide player this summer and you want to get rid of Nani.
It's worth it for one of, if not the, best central midfielder in the world.

This is the guy we should pushing everything for. Forget our other signings, he's the #1 priority for me.
I agree. He is a very rare type of player....one who can play comfortably in a two man midfield against top European sides, I.e. An "all round midfielder"

He's the one. Without question. Every single attribute he holds is what our midfield is crying out for and he's world class at that.

However, I think this is one of those transfers that never even gets past the first stage of sounding him out through his agent. Some players are just happy where they are, like Scholesy was here.

This would be too fecking to be true so I'm refusing to get my hopes high.It ain't gonna happen. Vidal is too good not generate interest from richer clubs that'll play in the CL.

Well either way Vidal isn't happening. I still rate Modric higher.

Disagree, Vidal has goals in his game and can dominate a game with ease. Modric is certainly up there, but his lack of goals puts him lower down the pecking order for me. It's always been a problem with his game.

I might be mistaken but aren't the majority of Vidal's goals penalty's? Modric IMO is one of the classiest midfielders I've seen since Scholes and Xavi were in their prime.

Definitely my muppet dream, but I wouldn't like us to waste the summer chasing him when he has no intention to move like we did with Cesc last year. If there is any inkling he could move though I hope we will be all over it.

CL: 5 goals, 4 pens
Europa League: 2 goals, 0 pens
Serie A: 11 goals, 2 pens

So 18 goals this season 6 of them pens.
I only watched Juventus in the Champions League since their league games aren't shown in Australia, I never realized he scored double digits in the league though.

A midfielder that scores goals it's been a while since we've had one of those :( ours are lucky to get a goal a season.

I'd call this one an impossible signing. Modric is unrealistic but still I'd say he's marginally more realistic than Vidal.

I would love to sign this guy.. Arda Turan is on that list as well.. That would make my decade..

I don't want to get my hopes up but if you get Vidal an 'all round midfielder' and a dictator in there we are set to play a two or 3 man midfield.

And there was me hoping for a one man midfield.

Al-Saadi Gadaffi is out of contract and has plenty of Serie A experience. He's got the "take no prisoners"-attitude that you need.
