Well, sort of. Very few teams play a 4-4-2, so he would probably be used as a forward of some sort in a front three or two.

For Juventus, he would be in direct competition with Tevez. That's why Nani to Juventus is unlikely, and if it were to happen, it would be for less than £10 m. Not saying that is his value, but I don't see us paying more than that for a squad player in his age.

Roma, Fiorentina or Milan would be more likely destinations. They all use attacking wingers.
Thought as much, thanks for your reply.

When it comes to Nani, we have very little to argue the case for in terms of higher fees, and in that sense, it'd be more prudent to keep him rather than sell for some ridiculously low price knowing it'd cost 4-6* as much to get another winger in with the equivalent talent.

Give them Valencia who can play the wingback role + 30M. That will do the trick surely

That would probably be wise. The current financial state of the Serie A and La Liga, particularly mid-table sides, doesn't allow big spending. Good players from these sides, who aren't good enough for Juve, Real and Barca, are therefore only sold for big money to the Premier League (or France) instead. Osvaldo and Soldado are recent examples.

For this reason, there really isn't a big market for United squad players in Italy or Spain - unless it's a real bargain. For the big money spent in England, on both quality and dross, you can find plenty of domestic talent for half the price.

Would rather we didn't waste our time on this one and instead pursued Cabaye or someone at least gettable.
Yes but there isnt much use getting more squad players. We need someone who is significantly better than what we have now aka a world class player.

True, but Cabaye wouldn't necessarily be a squad player, he'd be straight in the first team. That, and there aren't many world class players available right now. We tried our luck with Fabregas and didn't focus on getting anyone else in and look what happened, I'm afraid the same would happen if we only focus on Vidal this window.

Bit different with Fabregas though, at his childhood club which is also one of the best around, transferred for 30 odd million. Can't believe we wasted so much time on that. We've at least going some things going for us over Juve still. I wouldn't say it's likely, but he's the type of target we should be looking at.

I think you are looking at at least matching the British record of £50m to get this guy.

Well worth it though. Would be a hell of a statement.

Signing Mata and Vidal would also open doors to persuade the likes of Gungogan who would probably be available at a more modest fee due to only having a year left on his contract.

El Muppetinho says:
Kroos - Vidal
Januzaj - Mata - Draxler

Make it happen Moyes. :D

Seems realistic. May as well flesh out the rest of the team.

Yashin
Gerrard - Moses - Tutankhamun - Best
Kroos - Vidal
Januzaj - Mata - Draxler
Jesus

Juventus won't be selling Vidal - one of the finest all round centre midfielders around - unless it's for an extortionate amount of money (in excess of the amount for Mata) that, quite frankly, I doubt we'd be prepared to offer.

In short, never gonna happen.

But you don't know what we might offer, or what Juventus might accept..

None of us do.

About a week ago, no one would have imagined we'd throw about the amount of coin being dropped on Mata. More specifically, ON MATA. Never mind it being accepted.

Sir Alex said it today, for different reasons but anyway. "Anything is possible for Man Utd."

I don't know why, it's just a feeling, but I really think we are looking at this guy as our next signing. Wouldn't be surprised to see the club throw £50m at Juventus.

I think they'd reject it and Real Madrid then phone up with £52 million and its done within a week. If we did somehow get him he'd be a fantastic signing even at a high price, but I think its similar to other deals people have got excited about in the past where, yeah we probably would move heaven and earth to try and get him but then another club will come in and do the same taking him out of our reach.

It'd be more like us to look at Vidal, stand around helpless while Madrid make him their next hollywood transfer and then we take Khedira when hes back from injury as he's no longer needed

you should all be off celebrating.

We are. This is me & my family right now:

If you were in charge of trnasfers, we'd have signed Ben Arfa instead of Mata, and Shane Long instead of RVP.

You're hilarious, mate. I just don't want us to waste our time on a player the way we did with Fabregas.

And you're boring. Clubs miss out on transfers all the time. What's the point of giving up without even trying?

Stop bickering you numpties. This is a time for peace and happiness. Save the anger for when we draw with Cardiff on Tuesday

You'd think after signing players like Van Persie and Mata that people would learn not to say signing a certain player is never going to happen. It seems not.

It's only a waste of time if you don't get them
Okay, maybe I should have been a bit clearer. I'd like us not to do what we did in the summer and spend all of our time and efforts on one player risk missing out on a midfielder all together, and instead keep an eye on one or two other targets as backups, such as Cabaye.

I laugh but immediately realise that result is very much possible.
