Television Arrested Development

That's brilliant news, first we wait 5 years for news on the movie and they announce they'll give us a movie AND a new season.

This is absolutely huge for Netflix. I'm sure overseas services will also have some sort of similar license, though I don't know if Lovefilm will be the one, since Amazon will want to get it for Amazon Prime streaming in the US as well.

with Netflix now in Ireland, final get to watch this properly  Almost through Season 1 and it is a cracking show.

"Take a look at banner, Michael" ... "Family loves Michael".

Cracks me up each time.

I actually (without having seeing this thread) just started watching this yesterday... i'm about 8 episodes into the 1st season, and it's fantastic.... definitely see why people love it so much.

Looking forward to watching some more tonight.

Jason Bateman's reactions really makes some of the jokes.

I've started rewatching again, I'd forgotten how good the show is right from the start, them burning the Banana Stand down is only in the second episode.

"You just made a fool of yourself in front of T-Bone."

Half way through the 2nd season... man I love this show. What was I doing with my life that I put of watching it for so long. Every single character is pitch perfect... they're all funny and all cast superbly.

My favourite gag so far to be the exchange between GOB and his "wife" about the fact that she's in love with Tobias... that was great. Oh, and also any reference to Ann... "It's ass Ann as the nose on Plain's face" had me in stitches

One suggestion I have to make is to watch it all over again when you're done. You'll appreciate the subtleties even more after that.

Watched David Cross' Bigger and Blackerer stand up last night. It's really good. He really rips into stuff and is not afraid to joke about black stuff (meaning humor)

Just finished the last episode, one of the best series I've ever seen. The second series particularly shone, and then the third series' deliberate dumbing down and blatant acknowledgement that they were doing so to boost ratings and stay on the air.

And I don't know why, cos it's not really my humour, but the chicken dance (particularly when Lindsay piled on) I found absolutely hilarious.

I also loved the hidden, sub-textual storylines, such as in the last episode when they're 'trying to make a movie out of it', amongst others that I can't think of right now.

I'm just glad I didn't watch it sooner, waiting so longer for new episodes/a film would've been too much!

I'm not even sure who I would say my favourite/least favourite character was. They were all so different and dysfunctional yet they all worked so well together and brought so much to the show. I could say this is one of my favourite tv programmes ever.

Oh, and Portia De Rossi is just amazing.

Chicken dance in an all time great AD gag. I still youtube it every now and then.

Kok a kok a kok

Because yanks are dumb...

Generally serialized TV shows struggle in US on network TV. Especially for comedies, masses seems to prefer Shows where you can tune in and out at any point. AD derives a lot of its humour from past story lines, call backs and has a long thread running throughout a season and the series. Also many of the jokes are clever puns and not in your face laugh out loud moment. Take the whole cousin incest storyline, conservative America was never going to laugh at that.

I just think the timing wasn't right. I don't think it would have gotten cancelled if it was around today with social media the way it is. Imagine all the Twitter outrage and sponsorship drives that would have been conducted had Fox tried to cancel it today. At the very least another network would have picked it up.

Fan power has grown. We got 5 seasons out of Chuck and 3 of Community after all. I never saw that coming.

The final season was very poor IMO

It was a step down from the previous two for sure. The stuff with Charlize Theron is very hit and miss, and then the last few years are a bit of a desperate scramble, but it's still much better than most stuff out there.

My mate was absolutely waxing lyrical about this show not too long ago. Not got round to watching it, but is it as good as he says it is? The way he was talking about it, it sounds absolutely mind-blowing!

It depends really. A lot of people say that it never really caught on in America because it wasn't spoon-fed comedy, laugh-track, slapstick etc. But if you pick up on all their subtle, background jokes there's no reason you won't love it.

It's a brilliant show. Be a little patient. It peaks in the middle of season 2. But this is the best comedy show in the last decade imho. Possibly longer.

I think like with anything else, if all you've heard is how fantastic something is then you'll likely be disappointed when you experience it yourself as nothing can live-up to the hype, but yes it is very good. It rewards those who view every episode with running jokes and is packed with stuff to pick-up when you re-watch the show again.

But of course it comes down to taste; you might not connect with it at all but as Ole says patience might be rewarding.
