Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

Looking to get my brother a boxset for his 19th birthday and a bit stuck- so many to chose from. He enjoyed Lost, Inbetweeners, Prison Break, Life On Mars & Ashes to Ashes. Loves his comedy too especially Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell films.

I'd second the EastBound and Down shout. It's awesome and sounds like it's his type of comedy too.

I'm a fan of comic books and various adaptations of the stories to film and TV, but I only started watching Arrow about a month ago (mainly because I want to watch Flash and I figured I'd get acquainted with this version of the DC universe first). To be honest the first season at it's best was just decent and at it's worst was formulaic and forgettable, but I'm about 6 episodes into the second season and it's getting really entertaining now, much better than the first season. I'm a fan of Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen right, and I wish his version could have been incorporated into WB's upcoming DC shared film universe.

I now watch a TV show with the wife every night. We watched all of Game of Thrones and are currently near the end of series 3 of Breaking Bad.
I want some similar stuff to these for when we've finished. Any recommendations?

Is Walking Dead really as good / entertaining as its popularity suggests?

I watched the 1st season and then gave up. Does it get better?

These 2 are my favourite shows. Followed by House of Cards, Spartacus, and Mad Men.

Of all the shows I follow, none vary in quality quite as drastically as Walking Dead. It can be excellent, or just plain bad (not underwhelming, but actually bad). If you're not particularly a fan of zombies or those type of shows, you're probably better off giving this a miss.

It doesn't.

I gave it up after about 2 and half seasons. It was mind numbingly shite and all the characters are infuriatingly annoying (except for the guy with the bow, he's cool). The Sheriff's son was the worst of the lot.

Wire, Band of Brothers, Deadwood, Agents of Shield (if you like the Marvel Superhero movies), Arrow.

I watch all the superhero stuff myself (Arrow, Shield, Flash, (maybe Gotham), Constantine (coming soon) and other Sci-Fi) but the wife doesn't like those.
I'll take a look at your other suggestions. Thanks.

Anyone watched Scorpion? I listened to the guy who it's based on (his real name and organization is used in the series). He's got the 4th highest IQ that's been measured ever. Sounds very interesting. Hoping that the show is too.

Nah, he's full of shit. He got destroyed by Reddit when he did an AMA to promote the show.

Just saw that thread. What I saw was an unreadable thread due to downvotes. Just a bunch of angry nerds, most of whom probably frequent 4chan as well. The fact that all his answers were downvoted (which is against the standards of AMA's) suggest to me that it was premiditated by the masses.

Fact is, him being a con or not, this company does exist in real life. You can only con your way up to a certain point.

But regarding the show, I'm guessing it's just the typical crime solving show with it's own angle. I want to know if that's the case or if it's actually funny enough to be special.

You gotta give the guy credit for managing to con a television network into making a tv show about his made up life though. In the end, the publicity that comes out because he was a fraud might attract more viewers than the genuine story would have. Maybe that was the play all along.

They'll probably make a documentary about this.

I think it would be easy enough to prove if he graduated with honors, if he has that special privilege visa (which he probably has since a lot of people get it), if that company really is used by the media or as experts on court cases or for the government (which it might be since smart people need to be employed too).

My take on him is that he's a smart man. 197 IQ? I have no idea. I don't even know what 197 IQ means. After reading up on those kind of tests (the test that he said he got 197 on has since been changed because the formula wasn't accurate enough) it sounds possible however compared to today's standards, where you can hardly compare IQ tests really, the comparison doesn't add up. It would be like comparing seasonal stats from the PL with the stats from the championship without taking into consideration the difference in number of teams or their quality. He is a smart man however, no matter what faults he has, by the very definition of what he's doing right now. Ironically, those kind of smarts that get people to places like that aren't measured on IQ tests.

But since I was asking about the show to begin with, as I've read mixed reviews, I want to know if it's good enough. Can't really take the internet seriously since I don't know if people are putting personal feelings into them or not. I don't like the typical crime solving shows but I heard that this is categorized as a comedy.

I started to watch the first one and to be honest it's not worth your time. Maybe just take a quick look so you can see for yourself how awful it is. It's almost so bad it's good teritory.

Comedy series The League, Workaholics, Arrested Development and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
IASIP is my personal shout, the others are also good.

I've read that the characters are alright, it's kind of funny but the actual plots and technical stuff is ludicrous.

The League up until around season...3(?) was excellent. For some reason I can watch the reruns several times without tiring of them...

@Fbh112 Modern Family is also a fantastic comedy. Brilliant characters and timing, issues they cover are fantastic. It's one of my favourite (comedy) shows.

The missus and I got into The Killing. It's pretty dark, very dark in fact, depressing in places but really deep into the characters and subject matter. It's pretty good, worth starting to see if you like it. Netflix.

Is this the Danish or US one? I've seen the Danish version and was wondering if it's worth checking out the US one?

The American one is very similar but lacks the same level of emotional resonance mostly due to Sofie Gråbøl/Mireille Enos. Considering they're very formulaic to begin with I wouldn't recommend watching an inferior version of the original.

Bojack Horseman - Yay or neigh?

I watched 3 or 4 and was beginning to get into it after a slow start. Haven't seen any beyond that because of watching other stuff, but I do intend to watch more.

It'd say it gets 'good' without being 'great'.

Saw someone say people who liked Archer will like it, but it's not in the same league imo.

Cheers, I thought as much. I'll give it a miss. I'm just going through a dry-spell with tv shows atm, can't seem to find anything worth watching.

It's probably been mentioned somewhere in the thread but I've recently started watching The Shield. Just got to the second series but so far it's brilliant. Well worth a watch.

Me too although I'm only on the second episode. Glad to hear it carries on as good as it starts.

10 episodes into Sons of Anarchy. It's finally a bit interesting and entertaining! Will stick with it. Prior to watching, all I read on Facebook was "ZOMG! This is my new breaking bad, maybe even better!!!1111!"

So I went into it with high expectations, even though I felt BB was a tad overrated, especially compared to how people were talking about it.

Just started season three of Sons of Anarchy. It has that "need to watch the next episode pronto" going for it. Extremely entertaining and I've adapted to Charlie Hunnam's accent.
