Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

For me the 1st season is superior to the 2nd, still good though.
Funny. Myself and most of my mates thought the opposite. Season 2 had me captivated much more than season 1.

its not brand new - season 2 just ended - but Masters of Sex was my favorite show of the past TV season in the US. Brilliant writing, cast is impeccable and I found myself genuinely interested in every story arc. The topic and regular nudity doesn't hurt either :D

The Sopranos not close to Breaking Bad?

You have them the wrong way round there I'm afraid.

Nope.

Different shows obviously but Sopranos is more repetitive, probably more consistent, but never reaches the heights of BB season 4. Or at least it hasn't for me yet - I'm just over half way through season 5. I do think it is great but just not quite as good as many think.

IMO BB and The Wire are the best TV series - both peaking in season 4 - I've watched by a distance.

I'm currently watching Peaky Blinders, Tyrant, Legends & The Last Ship. They're all keeping me interested so far until the big ones come back round for me TWD, Homeland, Vikings & GOT.

Homeland and TWD have both started again a few weeks ago.

And I watch The Last Ship for about 7 episodes when I got to frustrated with the utter silliness of it and quit.

I knocked off the entire season of Transparent a couple of weeks ago. It's absolutely excellent and Jeffrey Tambor is outstanding in the lead. Highly recommended.

Great show. You even seen Six feet under? Transparent's creator and main writer Jil Solloway was also a writer on Six feet under. Its one of the best tv dramas i've watched and the absolute best ending to a show i've ever seen.

I haven't but I'm intrigued now.

Seriously, you should. It was an HBO show, ran from 2001-2005. It has Michael C. Hall (of Dexter) playing one of the main characters. The acting is superb and the characters are all very organic and realistic. If you like Transparent you'll love Six Feet Under.

Each to their own obviously but I personally don't think Breaking Bad reached anywhere near the heights of The Wire or The Sopranos.

I also rate a few other shows higher than BB. Band of Brothers and Deadwood certainly. Probably The West Wing and Generation kill as well.

In terms of The Wire have you watched it a 2nd time? Only reason I ask is that after a 2nd viewing I thought Season 2 was its best. I thought 4 was initially as well....

I haven't watched it again and I doubt I will. Very few things are worth the time. Blackadder and not much else that I can think of.

I've nearly finished season 5 of Sopranos and while still enjoying it I don't think it is getting better. The extended dream sequence episode was terrible. Unnecessary, self indulgent and an irritating filler.

I've not seen Deadwood as I find cowboy stuff boring but no doubt I'll eventually give it a watch. My order of shows would be,

The Wire
Breaking Bad
Band of Brothers
Sopranos
House of Cards

Bear in mind I love HOC.

did you kept watching Z Nation?

7 episodes so far and its just getting better and better...
I'm watching it, not the greatest tv in the world, but still watchable. Love how every week they come up with something ridiculous (Amish zombies, food whisk zombie kills etc) to look out for.

what the feck is that! its not a sharknado!!

hahaha... that episode was pretty epic.

im loving how despite the dark humour, shit can still get serious. (last 2 episodes)

Oh, indeed. Has there ever been a character so easily swayed by the stick and carrot as EB?

Anyway, my favourite aspect would be
how Swearengen starts off as the undoubted black hat of the show, only to show us that he has some standards when Cy comes along, not to mention Old Mr Moneybags. Not to mention the fact that he pretty much owns every scene he's in... Fantastic acting! I also loved how much one comes to feel for Al when he's battling that kidney stone.

You seem to know your shit, so I'm gonna check this one out.

Started season five of Sons of Anarchy, don't know if I'll bother. Season two was quality but everything after that has being pretty much meh. Feel like I'm only watching it because I've came so far. For the peeps who've finished it out, is it worth it?

I felt the same around that period and honestly I think it does pick up again. I decided to just plough through as I'd come so far by then.

The show is quality throughout, for me anyway. Im halfway through season 6 and should be starting 7 by next week haha

Just started watching The Affair:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2699110/

It stars both Rawls & McNulty from The Wire and is 3 episodes in so far. The first part of each episode shows McNultys side of things then the second part shows allisons story. Very interesting so far.

The first episode of the British show "The Missing" came out last week. It was really good.

Did anyone watch Mike Tyson Mysteries? I quite liked the first episode, but then I was a big Tyson fan.

I've enjoyed the first 2 seasons. Not as good as the very best TV but it certainly keeps ypou wasnting to know what happens next. Season 3 has slowed but that is almost inevitable given season 2. I'm not a few episodes in to S3 so I'll reserve judgement for now.

The Wire is cops and robbers. Just very good cops and robbers stuff.

I've now finished The Sopranos. Generally loved it except for the very occasional filler episode
the episode that was almost entirely set in Tony's dream world after he got shot in season 5 and the Las Vegas episode in season 6

I know the ending is much debated
I hated it. Utter cop out which left you hanging. Treated viewers with contempt imo.

I've just watched the first episode of Glue. Seemed good. Anyone finished it and if so what do you think? Any spoiler in tags please.

No, it ain't. It's an exposition on the failure of the drug war, on the selling out of the middle class, on the political and financial mechanisms that perpetuate socio-economic differences. Not sure how to sum up season four's look at the youth and the process they go through, and how impotent the impoverished inner-city school systems are when it comes to breaking that cycle, but yeah, I don't think these matters can be tackled so subtly and simultaneously so thoroughly by a show that goes under the category of "cops and robbers". Silly man.

Also, shame on you for bothering with Glee ahead of Deadwood ;P that better be righted at some point.

I'm on the last episode now, it's good. Sort of like a far better version of Skins set in the countryside as a murder mystery, would be the best way to describe it. And the guy from Rizzle Kicks is surprisingly good. Worth sticking with anyway.

Glee? Erm? You mean Glue? Series like Glue and The Fall require far less commitment than something with 50+ episodes and are satisfying in a different way. I'm also wary of starting a series that got cancelled before the story came to a conclusion.

The Wire is Cops and Robbers that does all those things as well which is what makes it so fecking good. Of course it isn't ONLY cops and robbers. That would be like saying that the Sopranos was ONLY about the mafia (although to be fair it was more specifically about the mafia that TW was about cops and robbers).

And remember I listed it as the best TV show ever made.

I agree with Cina. Only bad part for me is the young policewoman character. Think the actress was horribly miscast.

Gotham.

It's not good, it's very bad, but it's dangerously close to "so bad it's good" territory.

I'm kidding, it's already there.

I'm really enjoying Gotham. They've caught the feel of Batman's Gotham city very well, I reckon. That underlying sense of barely contained chaos that exploded so well in The Dark Knight. The kid playing Bruce Wayne is a bit of a whiny twat, but then the grown up Bruce isn't the most sympathetic character either. It's got that first season rush problem at the moment, lots of exposition and introduction of characters ( a bit like the first season of The Shield), but I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.

GLUE! Aaah... never heard of that one. Phew... glad I misread

And fair enough, I was just undermining the notion of the Wire as a cops and robbers show in order to undermine the notion of Deadwood as a cowboy show ;P

Btw, I wouldn't say that the cancellation leaves you feeling like you've stopped in the middle of a show... It feels a tiny tad rushed, perhaps, towards the end, but all in all it feels like a well-rounded show.

Now that I have finished The Sopranos I need something for the train that the missus won't watch and she isn't a fan of western stuff or mafia stuff so I might give deadwood a go.

TV is so much better than movies these days. It is rare that I find a film even vaguely satisfying these days. Partly due to a decline in the art of film making and partly due to a huge rise in the quality of the best TV drama series.
