Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

Haha yeah it's funny how the main characters can just waltz through it like is nothing then others just sniff it and their heads explode.

Those stoner dudes left that door open for fecking ages trying to rope in those corpses (a monumentally dumb plan even by the shows spectacularly low standards) and yet a couple of eps later we were supposed to feel tense that it was seeping through a small key hole. Make your fecking mind up show!!

There was also that one episode built entirely around flashbacks, that just seemed to be about the main guy decorating his kids room, and contributed nothing to the main story at all. It was a complete mess. But so much of a mess that I sat through the whole thing just to see how messy it could get. It was a bit like The Following in that watchable car crash kind of way. It got a bit dull in the middle, but ramped up the stupid spectacularly by the end.

The AV Club review of the finale is bang on the money.

I bought True Detective season 1, partly based on great reviews the series received on this board. Haven't watched it yet, so can anyone briefly sum up its main appeal, please?

The main character is basically an alcoholic and a hobo which means that most people here can identify with him.

And yes, that includes me.

Amazing boobs.

Thanks.

I ended up watching three consecutive True Detective episodes (only tiredness stopped me carrying on). It's amazing, all the main players are excellent, though McConaughey is beyond words. I really wish there were more than eight episodes. *sobs*

Can't believe you waited this long to watch this. McConaughey is great in it indeed. One of my favourite tv shows ever.

Season 2 is supposed to be a big turd though.

I think I might of repressed season 2 of True Detective as I can't remember it at all.

Didn't know I had that ability, come to think of it hope I wasn't bummed as a small child

I'm dying to drone on and on about True Detective S1 but am three years too late. Poop.

Drone #1: I've two episodes to go. It's like a Cormac McCarthy novel. I've read that some critics dislike how the show's women are depicted but, to me, that misses the point: its portrayal of men and their power-structures is damning. There is more decency & dignity in the females' relative silence and stoicism than there ever is in the boys' noisy, self-indulgent proaction or solipsistic philosophising.

Jesus that's exactly what everyone said when it came out initially. 2014 called, it wants its feedback back!

Is this the 4 episode DrOne web-series? I've been trying to locate it but no luck.

You're quite right to liken it to a Cormac McCarthy novel...in fact if I had to sum up Season 1 of True Detective I'd say it's like Cormac McCarthy directed a feature length episode of Scooby Doo. Which is something I would watch.

The Deuce on HBO seems to be getting good reviews, anyone seen it yet?

First episode is good, yeah.

Bit like The Wire (no surprises seeing as it's David Simon) in that it's quite slow early on and seems to be almost playing out as a novel.

As you'd expect from HBO the production values are excellent and the 70's looks brilliant in it.

Despite the barbs of trendy Caf critics, I shall continue to post shit and outdated stupid TD theories!

We're currently watching Shameless (the US version) and we love it. Season 4 has definitely taken a turn to a darker mood, but I think it only made it better.

I'm liking The Deuce so far. It's not The Wire quality (yet I guess) but it's a very interesting series.
