Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

The Kettering Incident is an Aussie series worth watching - and there aren't many. At least the first 7 episodes have been.

I recommend the first series of Broadchurch, not normally my cup of tea, but really enjoyed it.

Don't watch the second series though got two episosdes in and gave up cos it was just silly

I agree although I don't think series 2 was as bad a people make out. Not as good as 1 for sure.

Did Farscape finish, or it was shut down and so the story was left unfinished?

It finished, also they made a movie, the peacekeeper wars.

It was cancelled, but they wrapped it up somehow. Farscape and Firefly being cancelled are crimes against humanity.

Cool. Between it and Babylon 5 for the next TV show I'll watch. Haven't watched a sci-fi show for more than a year, since I binge watched the first 8 seasons of SG1 and the first season of Atlantis. I enjoyed them, but it gave me total burnout on the genre.

Firefly
Battlestar Galactica
Farscape
Star Trek DS9

All must see shows IMO, perhaps DS9 can be dropped.

The first and only season of Firefly and the two first seasons (third at a stretch) of Battlestar Galactica is for me SciFi perfection. Firefly is the more light hearted space soap opera, while Battlestar Galactica is true Scifi which handles some heavy themes.

Farscape is a not-shit Star Trek with plenty of stand alone mystery / problem of the week episodes and alien of the week episodes. Also the crew chemistry is amazing.

You need to watch B5 along with the films and in the right order to get the best from it.
I watch this in this order.

Battlestar Galactica was so damn cool...for a season and a half. I don't mind re-watching that sometime, but the rest...ugh. No thanks.

Galactica is arguably the TV show I have enjoyed most, while Firefly was brilliant too (although unfortunately cut short).

I haven't watched any Star Trek bar the two JJ movies.

They fecked up the order of the episodes when they aired them on TV, then blamed that for cancelling it. If you haven't seen it you should also watch the movie, Serenity.

Actually when it comes to crew chemistry and a funny and charming lead Farscape is the closest to Firefly. Ben Browder totally channels his inner Nathan Fillion. The show is more 'proper' Scifi than Firefly though, with some adventurous looking aliens and far fetched plots. Also the arch enemy of Browder, Scorpius is brilliantly and funny portrayed, probably the most bitter alien in any galaxy. He is the sort of guy that wakes up, hits his toe on the doorstep and wants to commit intergalactic genocide because of it. His mimic is golden.

Yeah I would also place Galactica all the way up there with other TV greats. The sheer production quality and acting just isn't as recognized since it is scifi and not drama \ crime etc.

Of course I watched Serenity. It did as a good job as it could have done to bring some closure to the story.

Galactica on the first three seasons is pure perfection IMO, right there with the greatest shows ever. The quality goes a bit downhill after that, but still I enjoyed it.

Good, it can only get better.

Oh wait, Voya....

Seven of nine though :D

I think the correct way to do Voyager is watch the pilot to know what it's about, and then watch only the best rated episodes (seven/doctor episodes, the Borg alliance, the war memorial). And I loved Bride of Chaotica.

I enjoyed Battlestar Galactica in the beginning but then it descended more and more into standard Sci-Fi trashiness and I think I gave up about halfway through.

I've been rewatching Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex recently and it's just as good as I remember it, such an intellectually nourishing show.

And I loved Bride of Chaotica.

Had to remind myself of it, but yeah, that was a fine one. Looks like it was written by Bryan Fuller, and he went on to do some lovely weird things.

But when I first saw it, couldn't choose the episodes, no internet to tell what sucks, so I had to watch them....all. :nervous:

I've only just got round to watching band of brothers I heard great things about it so I'm excited to see where it leads. Seen episode 1 and I enjoyed it just saving the rest for when I go on holiday to watch by the pool next week.

Also was going to download the wire but no way I'm paying the horrible prices on the App Store got that.

Anyone seen the Last ship?

I've really enjoyed it so far, a few silly bits & things I feel were mistakes.
Certainly not a top tier show but it's got me hooked.

Currently half way through s2.

S1 was pretty strong & I think the ending set up very well for s2.
First episode of s2 was excellent.

Episode 2 on the other hand.. I feel was rushed, it was a very good episode but I was disappointed they ended the plot with grandison and the rebels so quickly, it felt like a finale.
the build up & then boom it was over.
I honestly thought they could of used that plotline for most of the season.

As the new plot with the 'Immunes taking over Europe & now coming for America' is a tad fecking stupid. I really liked S1 with Ruskov
As highly trained as these guys are protrayed, I can't take them seriously. It's poorly done, I do think they've protrayed the British baddies poorly.
Especially the brother, someone that well trained, You'd expect him to be a little bit more grounded & not a fecking cry baby.

Overall, Its a solid show, some questionable decisions with the plotlines which was a shame as it had alot of potential.

Yeah I've been watching it the past few weeks and just got up to date, think the S03 finale is coming up this weekend.

Agree with everything you said really. Decent show especially at the start, but the plots and characters get a bit too absurd as it progresses. You can tell right from the off it's a fairly dumb, low budget affair, so I was never expecting that much. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The British villains were absolutely shit though!

I thought the first 2 seasons of BG were very good (second one especially), but then it went downhill quite quickly and quite strikingly. I actually finished it, but it was a bit of a chore in the end, a lot of it got very silly.

The third season of Galactica was amazing too. The last two episodes of it were my favorites episodes in the show and IMO right there with Ozymindias and Rains of Castamere as my favorite TV show episodes.

Fourth and especially fifth season were definitely much weaker though.

How is Supernatural?

Been thinking of taking a break from sci-fi for sometime after I finish with Stargate -Universe?
Pretty average, I'd say. It started off OK, the main characters are a bit annoying but the stories are interesting enough. But as the seasons go on it gets increasingly ludicrous.

My brother absolutely loves it though, it has a loyal following.

Yeah for me it was the characters & the constant action that I've enjoyed the most.
I've also liked the mix of land base action & ship based.
I can't think of another show that's based around a Naval Warship? Probably is somewhere.

I've just finished episode 12 of s2, where the sub gets sunk.
Thought it was a little silly that they ended up on top of the sub & the Captain was trying to 'hear the sub'.

Still disappointed that they didn't make more of the Granderson plot.
They set that up so well, having the rebels & Granderson.
Then all of a sudden boom, rebels & Navy are besties & gang up to take out Granderson.. comeeee on :(

The second arc of the season grew on me, with Americas civilians turning on the Ship etc but it could of been done so much better.

Show has potential just poor writers it seems.

It's a great show mate. The first 5 seasons are absolutely brilliant. It's not as good as it used to be but it's still better than most to shows currently out there.

Season 2 was quite ridiculous wasn't it. Zero research/understanding into how the British legal system and court procedures work. Season one was good due to the acting and a good simple murder mystery.

I was a big Fanboi of the series. Now it is a mess though, which is to be expected after 12 or so seasons.

The first seasons with "monster of the week" episodes was just  though.

I read somewhere that they envisioned the series as a trilogy.... their was no evidence of that on screen seemed like they where throwing ideas at the screen hoping some sticked because they didnt have real plan beyond series one.

Battlestar Galactica really went to shit. I tried to skip through the last season or so just to get the ending, but couldn't even bear that...

Maybe I'll re-watch Rome...

That's bs. The mutiny arc in BSG's last season was one of the best arcs the show ever did. Just because the finale turned out to be disappointing doesn't invalidate the entire final season.

Are you talking about 4 or '4.5.' I'm confused by the season numbers. I gave up early in season '4.'

If you want to be technical, it was 4.5 but they're really just one season. They were separated like that because there was a long midseason break and they wanted to make more money by selling two different DVDs (4 & 4.5).

So I just watched the pilot of "Quarry", Cinemax new series which will take over from the brilliant "Banshee".

It is absolute quality. Will absolutely be watching this. Wish I could binge it.

The nailed the whole 70's era crime thing. The lead is also brilliant. Cinemax making a big statement with this series, they wanna roll in the bigtimes with big brother HBO it seems.

But isn't it mainly a drama show rather than crime/drama?

He takes up work as a hitman for a mobster type of guy, so I would classify it as crime. But it also focus on the drama part with him being a Vietnam vet and everything.
