Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

It's probably been mentioned a few times before, but I'd recommend watching The Wire. It's absolutely brilliant, and no other series come close IMO. It can seem a bit slow in during the first three-four episodes, but then it really gets going. I've probably watched it four times.

Besides that, I can recommend The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Oz, Fargo and Game of Thrones off the top of my head. Oh, and OJ: Made in America, even though that's a documentary.

Anybody who have watched some of the series I've mentioned, who can recommend something I might like based on them?

Tyrant maybe?

Anyone watched German History X? Any good? Haven't heard a thing about it, just noticed it on netflix - love a well-made Nazi/neo-nazi programme so looking a review.

Like what i'm seeing from "The Night Of" so far. I really like John Turturro.

That lawyer's assistant...

Just watched Last Chance U on netflix. Its a reality doco thing that follows a team during a season in US college gridiron. Im not a gridiron fan, have hadly ever watched any games but loved this. Binge watched it from start to finish. If you like seeing behind the scenes stuff about sport etc this has been really well done.

Watched this on the back of your recco....did not disappoint. Amazing stuff.

Some have small parts that occasionally show up, most of all Richard Dean Anderson.

And it's the most science fiction of them all, I quite liked it. Shame there have been only two seasons.

Anyone seen "Better off Ted" ?

It is a SciFi comedy, very good ratings but it was cancelled after just two season, which I have found to be the case for many good shows tbf.

It was so underrated. Really enjoyed it when it was on. Haven't seen it in years now, but the two scientists were great.

America just doesn't seem to get on with sitcoms with non-formulaic plots, yet bilge like Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory live on for the best part of a decade.

What should I watch next?

Also, @Edgar Allan Pillow, how is Stargate: Universe? It doesn't seem like any of the regular characters are in it.

SG:U differs vastly from the formula of SG1 and Atlantis. It's story has far more depth than earlier series, but it does away with the old fashioned sense of adventure and fun. More like a sci-fi drama and as Mrs Smoker says, the most 'sci-fi' of all the series. Personally I did not like the dark drama and prefer the outrageous adventures in SG1. Give the first 3 episodes a try and continue if it feels right for you...

Have you seen Continuum and other SG standalone movies?

As to series...

Futurama is mind-blowingly intelligent comedy. One of the few series i'd give a 10/10 rating.
.
Firefly (plus the movie Serenity) always tops my list. My Favourite sci-fi. Shame it got cancelled, but still very nice watch.
The Lost Room is a gripping miniseries, which I never expected to be as good as it turned out to be. Fabulous.
Agents of Shield starts off flaky but gathers momentum and season 1 ends brilliantly. Haven't caught up on rest of seasons yet.
.
For non sci-fi, I'd recommend...

Justified. It's a kind of action/drama, but very entertaining and keeps you hooked.

If you are interested in getting into Anime, go for Death Note. I still can't believe how amazing this series is. Or if you prefer some light hearted adventure like SG1, go for Hunter x Hunter.

Thnx for this. I think I will enjoy it more if its more sci fi.

Have seen Ark of Truth. Will be watching Continuum before starting season 5 sometime tomorrow.

Have seen Firefly, serenity and agents of shield. Will look into the other series you mentioned. Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm into all the DC comic book series, Flash, Arrow, LoT, supergirl, etc..

Not really watched any of the Marvel series on Netflix, daredevil, Jessica Jones, etc...are they worth a watch? They seem a bit darker than DC from the trailers I've seen...

Haven't seen the shows you mention, except for Daredevil.

can't recommended it enough. Really really good.

Daredevil is very good especially the first season. Some scenes are pretty brutal though. As for Jessica Jones, I found it average. David Tennant is excellent but the other characters were uninteresting and it was probably a few episodes too long as well. Admittedly I'm not the biggest comic book fan and haven't watched any other TV shows of that ilk.

JJ is great. Daredevil is pretty good although the main character is endlessly annoying.

Anyone watching Last Chance U on Netflix?

Watched a couple and it's really good. It's a documentary about a college American football team in Mississippi where the kids have been kicked off other teams/not good at the school work etc and it's their last chance to make it to the big time.

Just finished Stranger Things on Netflix. Not usually a fan of paranormal type stuff but this wasn't bad

I stumbled across The Last Ship last week - by the end of the weekend I had seen every episode

I've just got into Banshee, really liking it in that frenetic, batshit crazy, The Shield kind of way. Would definitely recommend for people who look for intensity more than realism in their TV.
Banshee is definitely great entertainment, one of my all-time favourite shows.

I'm currently rewatching Psych, just some stupid fun where a guy pretends to be psychic to help the police on cases.

I hear the new Netflix show "Stranger Things" is really good. 9.1 on imdb.

I've just got up to E11 of S1 of Fringe, took a little while to get going and I'm glad I stuck with it.
It reminds me of the Blacklist.

Currently watching a old Tv Show called "Millenium" (1996-1999)

"A former FBI profiler with the ability to look inside the mind of a killer begins working for the mysterious Millennium Group."

Starring Lance Henriksen. It is really good, especially if you are into serial killer stuff, I've read that they dwelve into supernatural and biblical stuff in season 2 \ 3 for the main story arch. I am currently on episode 4 of season 1, three seasons in total.

It get's really high ratings, 8.1 on IMDB and 8.8 on TV.com, and I think it is quality. Really dark and gritty. Lance Henriksen is also perfect in the role.

The soundtrack is also a thing of beauty. Massive attack, Rob Zombie etc.

Homeland hit Hulu recently. The first couple of seasons were good...a bit crap after that. In the end, I was fast forwarding through the soppy parts just to finish it.

Anyone here watch 'The last kingdom'? Kinda like Vikings. Season two will be produced by Netflix

One's that haven't been recommend in here over and over but I rate both a lot -

Line of Duty - British cop drama, absolutely fantastic.

People Just Do Nothing - British mockumentary revolving around a group of MCs running a pirate radio show (Kurupt FM), trying to make it big.

Low-budget Vikings with bad actors, decorations and screenplay. Reminds me of the 80's fantasy movies

It was mildly entertaining. The production values and budget should go up with Netflix producing season 2

Quarry reminds me of Banshee a bit. Maybe it's just the entire setting but I can't explain it but it has a Banshee sort of feel to me and looks promising.

Was actually looking at that yesterday, Will give it a shot.
