Antony under investigation by Brazilian authorities for domestic abuse | Inquiries ended | Back in the squad

I don't think any celebrity is naive enough to think any comment they make via Twitter/social media on a contentious issue will remain exclusively on their timeline and won't be picked up by the papers. Not in this day and age.

So no celebrity should voice their opinion on any sporting, political, criminal matter of public interest?

They all do all the time, I'm quite sure she isn't the only one to do so in respect of MG or Antony, never mind the fact that she has a long and well documented association to the club as a fan.

It's the presentation of that one person's opinion above others and the sensationalist way it's presented that is influencing the narrative, more than the opinion in its own right.

People still think RR was the determining factor in the greenwood case which I think is a huge reach - even if she was, that is an abysmal reflection on the club their process and not her.

That she is somehow to blame for holding an entirely reasonable opinion and thinking MG would be playing for us if not for her is daft. She has a right to voice her opinion on these matters and anyone is entitled to disagree.

She isn't claiming to act on behalf of or speak for all United fans. How dare she, a famous woman who is a United fan take a stance on allegations of domestic and sexual abuse by United players and how the club deals with it!

Seems it was an admittedly toxic relationship, from Antony's statement.

Other than that, I guess we have to wait until the investigation is over.

Only reason he should be dropped is if hard evidence is found vis a vis Mason Greenwood, and as far as Im aware there isnt?

Its he said/she said. And they can be tricky/dangerous situations to involve oneself in until a clear picture is established.

I hope she can take her fame elsewhere and support another club. Who needs supporters whose main job is to drag the club through mud at every opportunity.

I expect him to be suspended the moment he's charged, at the latest.

And on a completely inappropriate note, it might actually be good for the team to not have him be a complete dead-end on the right.

I truly cannot stand Rachel Riley. Nothing to do with United, she's just a nasty piece of work. Why do we keep having to hear her opinion and why is it seen as more important than any other woman's viewpoint?
why would anyone take her seriously after she photoshopped images to force a drama?
Also when the last time she created some positive energy for the club?

Ther used to be a time I didn't mind Rachel. But I fear she's starting to become Megyn Kelly...

The choice is dead end on the right or just no right.

That's celebrity for you. The society of the spectacle. When people agree they retweet, when they disagree they think celebrities should shut up.

Yeah, I hate it when people speak out against the Glazers too, just creates drama.

And when we play awful everyone should just be a chill good fan, just drags us through the mud critiquing players.

Wish we had of all kept quiet about the super league too, would have been fine.

You can't police other fans opinions and hers have been entirely reasonable and not uncommon - just say you disagree and move on.

Yeah. Weird, right.

:boring: At bolded. So I can't say the problem is lack of spending. It's more bad management. It's just been wasted for the most part. I mean just look at exhibit A our massively expensive mega contract wingers Antony and Sancho. Its a really sad state of affairs. In any case you are right, we need loads more money for the title challenge. I just don't have any trust that it will be well spent this time either.

With our spending track record we would need about 1 billion. You just know most will be duds and shining star of the team would end up being an academy lad.

You have no issue with attacking the club, it's just the topic of abuse you want them to stay silent on.

Second player facing serious allegations like this in a short time but for some, a female supporter giving her opinions and the media qouting her is the biggest issue. Some vile people on this forum.

Should be dropped and not allowed to train as long as there is an investigation. These things can go on for years but the club set a precedent. It doesn't matter whether he gets convicted or not, after the investigation has been completed, he should be made let go. Just like they did with Killer Mason. Absolute nonsense but that's how things roll these days at United.

Other clubs don't give a feck, Arse and Partey comes to mind. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. But not at United.

Killer mason? Get a grip mate.

Accusations should not stop him doing his job - convictions should.

That was also true of Greenwood by the way. The difference with him was that the recordings ruined his public image to the point nobody wanted him around.
Greenwood was arrested. It'd have been impossible for the club to carry on playing him when he was in jail.

To be fair Amber Heard was fecked because everyone loved Jonny Depp, she had no chance from the start of that trial and the court of public opinion had already decided Depp was innocent. You're not telling me that he's not given her a clout a few times when he's been high on booze and drugs, there was evidence that wasn't admissible in court which basically proved he'd given her a dig on a plane or something I think I read somewhere.
I think she was fecked the moment she testified something like “My dog stepped on a bee” :wenger:

By saying how I need to react to her opinion you are effectively policing mine. Why don't you just follow your own advice and just say you disagree and move on. Or that only works when it suits you.

How we handled Greenwood set a precedent and it's exactly why I wanted him to stay if he didn't get convicted by a judge. The club has now become the judge for every case like this and as long as every PL club doesn't do the same, we will be left behind because we have to sell every player that breaks a law. Its very naive to think only a few players have done sh*t like this and that's exactly why you should leave it to the police/courts/judge whatever. What happens when one of our players gets caught drunk driving for example? Is that better or worse than hitting your girlfriend? Do we sell him?

Probably better. Not good, but better.

You think you read it? Could you have dreamt it? Overheard it on a bus? A taxi driver could have told you? Anyway sounds like a solid source.

Are there behavior clauses in player contracts? It should cover domestic abuse, drugs, illegal betting, drunk driving, all of it. I’m disappointed but as much as it screws us, suspension pending investigation is probably the right call. Was hoping the club would release more info regarding what they determined Greenwood to have done (since he was innocent of the charges according to them), and then a could apply one standard. Seems like this should have been discovered before we signed him.

seems like a much different scenario than greenwood. Hopefully people can actually be level headed for once and not just jump to conclusion. Not high hopes considering people in the world.

There is not a single united fan in existence that has never said something critical about the club.
But you can be sure if my words had any weight or reach I wouldn't say half of what I say in this forum. She is allowed to express her opinion in the same way I am allowed to wish she fecks off to support another club.

Here's Neville criticising how the club is run under the Glazers: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/gary-neville-glazers-man-utd-30851627

You'll be running to the "Neville is dead to me" thread pronto, yeah?

Why?

I said that I believe when society trys to correct an imbalance, it can quite often go extreme on the other end.

It can be racism or sexism or homphobia, anything imbalanced is seldom rebalanced in an objectively balanced manner. I always believe that the intent or hate behind a statement is more important then the statement ( in general).

You need only look at Roald Dahl books being rewritten (to be "appropriate") and Fawlty towers ( parody) being pulled from BBC and having warnings before it. Or people being "cancelled" for expanding out certain topics in a manner that is not exclusively in support of something. Rather then educating on the issues, its all about cancelling, which is kind of childish and counter productive.

I have been on the end of it myself, where people are vehemently against discussion that is not limited to "thats bad" or "thats good". To be anywhere in between or less definitive, is to be considered "an enemy of progression" or somehow supporting (or trying to deflect) bad behaviour.
Red flags all over this collection of shite.

Has she expressed her opinion on the Qatar links?

People are assuming he's guilty when there's no real evidence. Why?

Who is doing that? All I said was that if he did do the things he is accused of, then I hope he is found guilty. Don’t you?

It also appears there is significant evidence, but that is for a court to decide. Why are you so quick to defend him?

Innocent until proven guilty and this females can hold it.

She saw that he went to United and decided to sue him. If the trick goes through, she can even take money from him and take him for granted.

Taped her fingers with duck tape and put paint on her head.

Telling us that she has proof. Not believing in any of this bulls**t.

A law should also be introduced for lying and that if the accused is found innocent the one who who makes the accusations should be the one convicted.

To see how many of them will be bold enough to accuse and judge somebody for fun.

After 3 months another chick will come for Rashford for duck taping her foot. .... telling us another fairy tale .
Bollocks. Where are you getting this idiotic narrative from? You have no idea.

This woman is a relatively famous DJ with half a million followers, trying to make out she did this for attention doesn't make sense at this stage.

It's not a precedent. There's no law saying United have to treat every case of potential criminal behavior the same, and even if they did the situation is not the same as the previous one. The player adamantly denies the allegations and no damning evidence has been made public.

The other two similar cases to this involved Arsenal and Manchester City and neither suspended their players based only on an allegation.

There are no criminal charges, so I am not sure what the issue is. With Mason it was clear he had to be suspended by the club once he was charged. In this case the club should address it but there is no reason or grounds to suspend him. As for Rachel Riley, why give her any attention or points for discussion. She has her view and opinion as a supporter and thats it. If the Club had strong leadership we wouldn’t be concerned with the opinions from a few high profile supporters and would simply do what was right for the Club. Unfortunately I expect another hack job by Arnold and co.

I dont think you can call a woman a "nasty piece of work" for calling out domestic abuse.

Defend him? I was just asking why people are assuming he's guilty without any real evidence, which seems a bit strange to do.

There are some really vile individuals on this forum.

Saying Anthony is "Innocent until proven guilty" may be valid, but that has to work both ways. Her accusations should be taken seriously until proven otherwise.

And even if Anthony is not charged, it doesn't mean her accusations are false.

Why do people slate Rachel Riley when her opinion is one that has been shared multiple times in this thread?
It's utterly bizarre.

Whether we voice our opinion on the situation on this forum, or whether she voices her opinion on her social media - they are both out there for people to read. Because she's a celebrity with more audience she can't have a view on things - or more specifically not one that matches a cohort of people on a team's fan forum?

Maybe I'm being naive here and don't know something about Riley's past that I don't know about, but RedCafe's opinion on her during the Greenwood and now Antony debacle is a strange one in my eyes.

It doesn't matter if we agree with her, it's a woman and they should know their place.

The warning will be deserved.
