Took 23 appearances and against a struggling 4th division side to get his first goal and assist of the season.

His future at the club couldn’t be more aligned with EtH. Good riddance to both in the summer is my hope.

I'd be shocked if ten hag stayed past the end of the season. I'd also be very surprised if we managed to get rid of Antony. Our valuation of a 25m player was fair in 2022 - but now he's on 200k per week, and selling him for 25m would be a big ffp hit for us. It's better for FFP to just loan him endlessly really, because there is not a chance in hell that anybody would bid above the actual fair 25m valuation of him, yet we wouldn't accept it because of the insanity of how much we paid for him. Just elite mismanagement that will harm us for years.

Can't believe there are still people defending him after watching that awful first half. We must sell him next summer at any cost. I'd even ship him off for 20m if any club is stupid enough to spend that much.

I can understand why some people rated him in Ajax. If you just make a video of his goal and assist, and ignore other stuff, you might make it look like he had a good game.

He's a high volume player, something will go in eventually. But he can play this game only when we're dominant.

Think we've found his level.

Also, it's a bloody good job that ball came back off the post so quickly at him... Any slower and he would 100% try to control it then finish it with his left.

This is exactly right, ETH's signings have set us back years. The fact that ETH worked with this guy for years and felt he was elite level is the utter indictment of him. just so average.

He has been a big flop in general, would be even at the half the price he was payed. But when people start saying how he should have never played, and constantly moan in the game where he had a goal and an assist, you are being a clown. If you really can't separate your general feeling of him from a game to game performance and have to constantly moan no matter what, that is a you problem.
Well said. Annoying that we can't enjoy the fact he got a goal and an assist (and was just generally better) because a subset of negative dolts refuse to let up on their crusade of incessant moaning.

Unlike many I'm of the opinion he's nowhere near as bad as made out, and the context of all the shit he went through earlier off the pitch (self-inflicted or not) can't be ignored as a factor.

Is he good enough to be our starting right winger? Nope.

Was he overpriced? Absolutely.

Is he the worst player we've ever signed? Definitely not.

It's lower league opposition but a goal & an assist is a huge weight off, hopefully he can kick on from a bit here.

If you want Antony to be part of the future of Manchester United FC that's up to you. But that also tells all of the standards that you will accept.

Antony is a poor, poor player and I simply do not understand Man Utd fans who want to keep him, and players like him at the club. If Pep, Klopp.. any successful manager has a player who doesn't perform, or can improve on existing players (think Grealish for £100m, benched when Doku is targetted and signed) they will get rid of the player.

But somehow, some, some fans here still wish to hold onto to players who have shown, over soooooooo many games, that they are taking us nowhere, nowhere at all.

I'm pleasedhe had such an impact against Newport County. I mean, come on...

100% spot on. This obsession with wanting players or managers to succeed, excuses, etc. He is garbage and so limited, not a single stand out ability or strength. Newport are terrible but with the ball at his feet he offered close to zero threat, couldn't beat a player, and lost the ball many times.

Its our willingness to accept failure and mediocre players and managers for so long that has allowed the Glazers to fill their coffers whilst allowing them to appoint a series of idiots to run the club. A goal into an empty net and a 10 yards sideways pass against a league 2 team and suddenly people are supporting him. says its all really.

Worst player signed, no. Worst signing, including £82m fee, massive wages vs ability, then 100% the worst signing ever. And then we look at ETH who managed him for several years and was desperate to bring him to OT. For me that in turn is a sackable offence as he clearly cant evaluate a player nor understand the demands of top level football. Of course, some may disagree, and if an open goal against league 2 team means something to you, please carry on

Cant fault his attitude, the comments about completely shutting himself off to focus on football, as well as when he called on ex-players not to stop criticising him, but to offer advice, shows he at least says the right things about really wanting to become a better player. Far better attitude on and off pitch than some, and one in particular.

I feel a bit sorry for him sometimes, like the endless slating of him just for celebrating his goal. Social media was full of it.

He had scored his first goal in months and he was simply happy to have finally scored. He's a human being.

I will criticize his performances based on what he does on the pitch, but the personal vendetta stuff goes way beyond normal behaviour. We've seen it with Maguire before and now it's Antony's turn.

His performances on the whole have been very poor, he offers practically nothing in attack, hardly ever gets passed his man down the wing and his right leg is useless, and to think we spent 80m on this player, he isnt worth half that amount, overall he has been a very poor transfer. I would like to at least see him play on the left wing, surely he would be an improvement and could even get to the byline and put in a cross with his left foot?, or have they tried that in training and he was even worse?

Perhaps not, but is he the worst in terms of value for money?
Think Sancho currently tops this list. Big money, big wage, doesn't really do anything on the pitch, causes issues off it.

Antony at least had a season where he came in and did ok as part of the team that got 3rd and won a cup.

Hard to count the 'cost' when you think Pogba was here for ages, so you have to add up his salary + fee as the 'cost'. Same for someone like Sanchez, we were paying him an insane weekly salary even when he was out on loan + then reportedly gave him £9m to buyout the remainder of his contract. It's a sorry list of players.

The one thing I'll say about Antony though, despite him being incredibly blunt going forward, he's a work horse and evidently very professional in his own conduct. I know there is accusations outside of football levelled at him, but no one is in a position to verify the credibility of that, and with him not being charged I don't think we can level it against him.

I don’t exactly disagree, but it does speak to how incredibly starved we are, that we have to resort to the “at least he tries hard”. Everyone should do that, but obviously they don’t. And for Antony specifically, it is also coupled with a lot of really dumb stuff on the field - his stupid tricks, bad decision making, predictable shots that would never go in, etc.

Sell on, please. Oddly, he did provide an assist from the left…perhaps he can play there, as a traditional winger?

Name five worse signings Manchester United have made than Antony

It’s a good thought, but most modern wingers look for the shot first, then the pass. Or at least our wingers do. Antony would hate being forced to play on the left and thus be deprived of his trademark move.

I'll give you 11 since Fergie left that are at least as bad, if not worse

Fellaini
Schweinsteiger
Schneiderlin
Depay
Bailly
Sanchez
Van de Beek
Telles
Sancho
Onana
Mount

Add Rojo, Di Maria and Falcao on the list and remove Fellaini, Mount and Onana.

No, you said Antony is definitely not the worst player we've ever signed. So out of those 11 who was definitely a worse signing than Antony?

Wolves 3:4 Man Utd
Absolute madness - came on a cost us two goals.

Almost successfully cost us the game, please stay there. Just leave him there

If he plays next match I’m done with Ten Hag. Absolutely ridiculous game. Can’t keep the ball, not the mention to beat the man.

To the surprise of no one, he's even worse on the left than he's on the right.

Awful footballer and his manager should be sacked for signing him.

We need to make it a priority to get rid of him in the summer. Get whatever we can, and move on.

Release him from his contract.
This guy has nothing on Dan James.
