Ajax played better football under EtH than the current United but its only a matter of time.

Antony was part of a team that scored an insane amount of goals. He would draw 2 players out and create space for the team. He was absolutely brilliant for us.

Don’t mark him? He will destroy you.

Mark him? You need more than 1 person.

Put 2-3 people on him? You’ve left yourself wide open.

He is fast, has a good dribble and a great shot. With a solid striker he can work his magic, preferable Martial as he is highly mobile.

To be honest he was quite the opposite from what I expected, but not in a bad way.

My expectation:
His strength: progressive carries, progressive pass, dribbling, tricks, electrifying footwork, possession football
His weakness: productivity, goals, assists, being wasteful in front of goals

Reality:
His strength: productivity, goals, being clinical in front of goals, one two play
His weakness: lack of progressive runs, lack of dribbling

He is the man willing to dribble and exploit the defender. The rest of the team rarely do this.

3 goals in his first 3 PL games, impressive. I’d like to see him get more involved but can’t complain with the start he’s made. I agree with others he’s surprised me with his finishing ability, going off his stats at Ajax I wouldn’t have said that was his strongest attribute but fair play. Long may it continue.

He has world class shot technique. Rashy just smashes it full power, Ronaldo aswell. Martial has class but not as good as him.
Antony is the only one I fully trust will score in 1 on 1 with the keeper.
Ridiculous statement. Premature based off 3 goals. could literally be a purple patch. The others have scored so many more goals over a longer period

Yeah Ronaldo has got 800 odd career goals by just smashing it full power.

Fantastic performance. I’m not in the mood to nitpick today, but I’d like to see Antony take his man on more often.

I like Antony. He flies under the radar a bit the fact he’s scored in nearly ever game so far. Definitely adds to our productivity up front over a season.

Needs to improve other parts of his game to be a true star but the fact he’s so young is an impressive start at any club nevermind United. His potential ceiling looks super high.

Him not really taking on players is purely tactical to me.

Our rest defence is not good enough as of now to be very risky with the ball. That's probably why the likes of Dalot barely overlap, it seems like we are first building for security.

Taking on players whilst there are barely any bodies in and around the box/in front of you, is near a guaranteed possession loss. No matter how good you can dribble, constantly taking on 3/4 players is highly ineffective. It is far better then to look for a good passing option, which he is doing well so far.

But poor teams like Palace have dudes like Zaha or Ebe who take players on. Its pretty standard for any level of team/defence. I'm not digging him out just don't understand why that would be a tactic in your oppo final 3rd. Taking players on takes a defender out of the game and gives you numerical advantages.

That might be their best shot and way of creating chances, we are also one of the more negative teams in the league.

Love hearing our ex players opinions on all things modern. Just because he doesn’t play like prime Giggs or Kanchelskis Scholesy isn’t too sure about him.

Loved that most of our new signings are shutting these ex players up fast and making them sound like the fools they are backtracking their comments. Martinez (Carragher, Souness, Neville, Rio), Antony (Scholes), and Eriksen (Rio).

Scholes needs to shut the feck up seriously; all he does is whinge about us in his punditry.

As do most of us here to be fair. But comments from the likes of Scholes and Neville have an effect on players I guess. We just need to get the kind of players with the personality and ability to shut them up.

Alright but imagine he didn't score 3 goals yet. Would he still be praised here for his overall game? For all we know he doesn't score a single goal anymore this season as he is not supposed to be prolific.
His game has been decent so far but not enough for his price tag.

That said I 100% believe he will make big progress because he seems to have a winning mentality and he looks hungry and that is needed at the top level. I'm optimistic.

could he be our Freddie Ljumberg?

Ljungberg is possibly the Arsenal-player I have disliked the most - always whining to the referee whenever anyone tackled him. I have no problem understand Olof Mellberg disliking him so strongly. Every time those two were together for a long period of time (World Cups, Euros etc) you could read about them having a bust-up. Mellberg tackled hard as he always did - and Ljungberg whining about it - as he always did.

No his overall-game hasn't been good enough - but we need attacking players who can score goals - so right now, I consider that the most important.

Despite my initial disgust, I think that's a great comp. A fighter who will work hard and pop up with important goals, but also prone to losing possession more than most.

Imagine we'd conceded 3 extra goals, would Martinez still be praised? It's a bit irrelevant debating that kind of hypothetical as keeping goals out is Martinez' job and scoring and creating them is Antony's.

Except he isn’t prone to losing possession more than most. Seems this pre-determined profile of Antony will stick regardless of what the eyes actually see!

I genuinely think he posts on here. Some of his words wouldn't look out of place.

He's obviously used to high standards at the club and unless they compare to Beckham/Scholes/Keane/Ruud etc then he won't ever be happy - which is understandable.

Unfortunately though the his personal view and constant snipes in a very public domain don't help. Those quotes are then used as ammunition by Journalists.

Wow ... :wenger: :wenger: :wenger:

Keeping a clean sheet is not one players doing, we could concede every game and he still would look good, his passing is the best we’ve had at the back since God knows when.
Antony so far bar the goals hasn’t looked like a huge threat yet imo. For all the praise we got vs Everton we didn’t really create much chances. The results we got so far have all come from a much better organized backline I think And not from a fluent attacking game.

But it will come

I think it was the best we’ve been on that front. We’ve barely created a proper chance all season before that game, but we did alright at Goodison, especially first half. Casemiro should have scored a sitter, Eriksen had a couple of good chances, Rashford was robbed and Martial had a decent chance too.

I imagine someone can prove me wrong with easily-googleable stats but against Everton it seemed like he gave the ball away cheaply on multiple occasions. Not as often as Bruno of course, but it was still noticeable.

I think it was Dalot who gave away several cross passes cheaply.

Antony will be key for us on the weekend I reckon. Newcastle are in very good form.

Antony will be up against Dan Burn. One of the tallest players in the league against one of the shortest, tricky, agile. If he holds his width like he has been doing he’ll get opportunities to isolate Burn. Will be an interesting battle.

I think ETH will try to stretch Newcastle in which Antony will be key in doing that.

What about Matt Targett? Is he injured?
