8 goals all season in the Eredivisie, 3 in 3 in the PL. Why stats aren’t the be-all if the player quite clearly has the quality in his all round game.
To be fair, his goals per game were on the rise at Ajax before we bought him

I didn't watch a lot of him at ajax but in the videos I seen, he beat the left back for fun a lot, but he hardly seems to take him on for us.

Can anyone offer any kind of explanation to this that may have watched him a good amount?

Eredivise left backs are shit and he might be instructed to play a bit safer. Premier League counterattacks are a lot better than Eredivisie counterattacks and Manchester United isnt as good in the Premier League as Ajax is in the Eredivisie. Taking on a man is a risk, i wouldnt take that risk often with Dalot behind me

The goals are nice, the sprinting to help us defend is nicer again.

He's great love his futsal style of play. Rolling the ball forward without looking at it and eating some 30-40 yards, pushing our team forward in the play while keeping the ball. Yes he seem to be less adventourous taking his man on but sometimes it's just not necessary to risk losing the ball when he can create an opening for a pass in-field and get us going through some interplay.

It's good to have a player with world class ball retention and workrate while being this skilled. Will be a key player for the future where we want to become dominant team, under control for the majority of a game.

I reckon a lot of it is that he’s not on the same wavelength to Dalot yet (don’t get me wrong, even if he was today would have been tough with Dalot’s performance), so the decoy runs or easy balls to tie defences up aren’t there yet.

Great signing so far and has definitely improved us a lot. I hope he can get more used to the Premier league as he seems to tire in last 1/4 of games... though with 5 subs we can manage that no issues.

There’s trying hard and then there’s trying too hard. He needs to simplify his game a bit. Still, put in a shift and scored a goal but was a ghost the second half. At one point I completely forgot he was even there.

His work-rate doesn't get enough credit.

That moment when he drew the yellow card out of Onana was something we haven't seen enough from our wingers over the past decade. Getting involved in defensive duties instead of strolling about waiting for the ball.

It's a standard part of a wingers role that is to take on your fullback. It's a risk every winger must take

God I’m in love already. Brilliant movement and acceleration for his goal. Also amazing close control on display too. 3 in 3. Long may it continue.

Did he have a pre-season? I heard he played like one game for Ajax before his transfer. He'll get there. His work-rate is very good to see

Would really like him to drive at his man frist thing in the game - think it'll give him space later.

When the team has a better balance and control and he himself gains more confidence, you’ll see him take on his man more. He has it in his locker

He was injured for much of it, but came back at the end of pre-season and also played I think two league games. Think he scored two goals in that time too.

3 premier league games and scored in every game. quality finisher when he gets a sniff of goal.
His tracking back and work rate is top class.

Watched him closely today and his pressing and stamina is unreal. For Everton, Ewobi was literally everywhere but a lot of his pressing was useless as he didn't close the passing angles. Antony meanwhile pressed with tactical acumen and awareness of his surroundings.

Excellent balance, low centre of gravity and he's a fighter. Throw in his goal contribution and mentality, nearest thing to Ander Herrera Shithousery we've had in ages. Sancho could learn a thing or two from him

Yeah, he is deffo playing with one hand tied behind his back. Because he is tracking back a lot. In the rare occasions where he has picked up the ball in his desired area of the pitch, he has either scored or made the goalie produce a world class save.

You almost forget he is on the pitch, then WHAMMO he goes and bends a screamer round the keeper. He'll be even better when he has fully acclimatised to the PL. With Sancho and Rashford fighting it out on the left, we have the potential to do some real damage.

Did anyone notice how good his touch is? Saw a few balls fizzed to him and he just controlled it like nothing. Really liking his work rate more then anything else and I’m hopeful he will contribute to a lot of goals this season.

Agree, this is an early iteration of HagBall. As we get better he will have more license to do his thing in the attacking half

The goal against City, he had no right to control the ball like that.

Not sold yet on his ability but he is clearly a good finisher (Pickford didn’t do well rushing out though), takes shots when he can and most importantly he has a great fighting mentality. He brings even more grit to the team. I love South American characters.
I only rated him 5 today maybe it should have been 6 but the thing is I did not see him in the 2nd half.

A mate compared him to a slightly lesser Neymar though and I’m not seeing any of that and that is why my judgement is a bit clouded as of now :wenger:

Loved this

What a ridiculous comment.

He is definitely pretty quick. All that stuff is nonsensical. It's just a matter of style of play, he isn't someone that likes facing up defenders or knocking it past them and running so then you get people saying he's slow. Is this a problem? I don't know, maybe, at some point it might be nice to see more direct play in some situations. But it's clear when the only option is to run into the space he is fast, certainly fast enough.

He was tidy today, showed good technique and scored a lovely finish. Which is kind of becoming a trademark performance now. It's not the worst habit to have early as a United player.

I like him,he is going to be a very good player for us
Can wait to see him drive forward and take someone on 1-1

I like him. Tenacious, good technique, creative, contributes defensively...I want him to start taking his fullback on a bit more but maybe that will come once he fully adjusts to the league.

I came to write this!

I think he’ll be dynamite once we get flowing, the Arsenal goal & tonights give me the feeling he’s the type of winger that might be quiet but you can’t let him sniff a chance because he’ll take it.

Counting his 2 games for Ajax, he's got 4 goals and 2 assists in 5 league matches so far this season.

For all the worry about his end product when we signed him, he's looked a constant goal threat for us on the right wing.

That's something we haven't had consistently since maybe Nani a decade. The fact that he has yet to fully acclimate to the league yet, and that we're in the early stages of Ten Hag ball, makes me feel like he could end up being a special player for us moving forward.

He's only 22 ffs and he already ticks all the boxes skill/technical ability wise while his workrate has been one of his best attributes at the same time. Gonna be something to watch when he puts it all together the more experience he gets.
