2 goals 2 assists in 14 appearances.
He was great last season and was outstanding in the world cup for Croatia scoring in the final and being mom in the semi.

I'm not saying for a second I would swap them. I'm a huge fan of martial. Just saying Perisic is also a terrific player.

Scores a goal every 106 minutes and 100% of his efforts hit the target. Mighty impressive stuff from Tony.

You beat me to it! :wenger:

Only 8 shots as well. If we get rid of Matic and up our creative tempo, there's no reason why he couldn't start firing 30+ goals a season (if given a clear run and shown some love by the manager).

In my opinion, he's our most valuable player (including Pogba).

We need to get that contract of his sorted ASAP.

He's a great player tbf.

In what world is Perisic a "great" player? Literally no other club or set of fans would be enthused to have him. He's a pretty basic player, I'd rather a youth player get a chance.

Rashford isn’t the bigger talent, he’s just so much more mature and hardworking and intelligent.

Something to that effect.

That sounds something like it. Martial was supposed the learn to play on the right or sit on the bench I believe.

Hopefully the goal gives Rashford a lift.

Did you watch the world cup?

Seems great at finding himself all alone around the opponent box at least once a game. All of his goals lately have been like spectacular poachers goals. Would love to see him dribbling more, but the whole league seems to be double/triple marking him

Out of the 15 players who have scored 5 or more goals in the league this season, only Hazard has a better goal to minutes played ratio.

Disagree. We did have quite the arguments last season. Keeping that aside, Martial I feel is simply hitting his 2015/2016 heights. He still has a couple of years that he can go up.

Well there’s a difference between talent and how you fit into a side. The point I was making back then was how they fit into the side. They are both very talented, I always said that.

It's good to see him back where he belongs, in the starting XI and having an impact, producing goals. It took Jose getting desperate and with his back against the wall, but it finally happened. I also liked seeing Sanchez up top and would be interested to see those two develop a better understanding.

He's miles better than 2015/16 (when he only got 11 in 31!). Miourinho's made a man out óf him.

Of course, he"s more aware of the space around him and is scoring goals by hanging back and coming onto play.
Martial of old was all give and go to get it on his right foot.

He is still at times hanging back too much for me or just chilling out on the wing when he should be getting himself in and around positions like where he got his goal from today. You would think someone that fancies themselves as a striker would naturally head in to the box to get on stuff. He’d bag a lot more goals just getting in to the box.

Wonder how much of him hanging back is instruction. He and Shaw seem to be building that understanding, still needs work but last few games they’ve opened teams up on occasion and Shaw took a touch too many and closed off the angle for a left footer, had to take it earlier or switch it to his right. Tried low and hard but didn’t work.

So good to have a flashy winger with striker qualities... or is it striker with skilled winger abilities ?

Would love to see him and Rash putting more pressure on Sanchez and Lukaku. The older ones need to realize there's a future wothout them and eveyone need to start producing goods on the pitch.

While I do agree that he is a good player but had we signed him, it would have been a complete disaster IMO.

Do we have to shit on Rashford, in order to praise Martial? Shouldn't we support both, you know, since they won us the game today? The tribalism with fans over certain players within the same team is ridiculous. I don't give a shit who scores, I just want us to win every game.

Welcome to an online forum. People are tribalistic, Xbox vs Playstation, Apple vs Samsung, Vegetarians vs Meat eaters.....it's kind of what we do as human beings. I don't think anyone is shitting on Rashford though, he's just a victim here of the overhype some give him. He's an average player with a solid potential but you have had threads popping up comparing him to Mbappe or that he should start ahead of a clearly more talented Martial because of his higher work ethic. I think there's a world where they can both play, but Rashford is not showing himself to be ready for that just yet to me. He got a goal today, but I mean good lord his finishing is awful. The shot he fired at the defender, when anywhere else would have worked was just really bad. He literally fired it at the only spot where it wasn't going to be a goal.

Hes definitely at a point where he can transition into a truly world class player. He's always been productive, creates chances for himself and others, but the off the ball movement like Neville was saying could elevate him into one of the best attackers in the world IMO. And I think he'll nail that down one day too. If played regularly i think he can definitely get over 20 goals a season now, but has the potential to go for mid 30s types of numbers in all competitions. We'll see. Hope it happens here and he extends that contract.

I see where your coming from, but he's still young and raw. The potential is there for him to be a very good player. Look at Sterling now, compared to where he was when he was Rashford's age. Yeah, Rashford should have scored the first chance, but Martial should have scored that one on one last week. They are both young players, and young players are inconsistent. Martial went 9 months without a goal, they have both struggled at times. Rashford is 21 years old, think of everything he has done for us already.. The double against Arsenal on his debut, the winner at City, the freekick at Celta Vigo, the double against Liverpool. He's achieved so much already & he's still a kid. Martial is the better footballer, but calling Rashford an "average player" is ridiculous.

This might not be the best time to say this but, I don't see what he's offering on the left. He's the most dangerous attacking player right now and he's just not getting on the ball enough in my opinion.

They've tried everyone else at #9 so far, so why not him?
I agree, with the ball at his feet he's been very up and down. Especially in the first half today he was absolutely waft - nothing was coming off for him. But he is working his ring off and getting on the end of chances which is what most people are praising him for including the manager. I wonder if we quietly shift him up front in the next couple of months. His ability to get on the end of chances has him flying at the moment and we need to utilize it.

Maybe. I didn't want him at the time because of Martial. I don't want him now because of Martial. I just felt the need to make the point when a couple of posters were trying to say Perisic is average. He's clearly a very good player.

That's not happening though. It was a big thing on here last season but the whole Martial v Rashford debate has gone away thankfully. I think most would want both to succeed.

That's why I mention his solid potential, me calling him an average player is not a definitive assessment of his career, I just think at the moment he is just that...average. I think his main problem is because of his debut goals for club/country, people think he is a striker-in-the-making and is being held back from realizing his potential, but I really don't think he is best suited to be a striker. I think he needs to focus on the right wing where he has the best chance right now to get consistent minutes and where he can be more impactful. He isn't great at it, but nobody really is on this team. If he dedicated 100% to making that right wing his own, with his work ethic, I can see Rashford making the step up. I don't see it as a striker.

I don't think you can use Martial's drought for 9 months in the same light due to the fact that he was pretty much shunned from the team after a couple of bad games post-Sanchez. Tony's shown that if you stick by him, more often than not he will get you goals or assists consistently.

But he is average isn't he? The world cup is not a good enough sample space, Ante Rebic also had a very good world cup and he was linked with us(probably his agent) but he is also average isn't he? Perisic to me is just like Willian, at best a rotation option at a club aiming for a title. There is a reason why he is never linked with top clubs.

The nerve of some on here to insinuate that Mourinho's perfect benching/genuinely wanted to sell him methods are vindicated by playing Martial when he had no other choice. They win in any argument as they can bend it as they please, make it up as events unfold.

His following is scarier than Martial FC. At least WE are onto something, we knew this lad would do this and is on another level. Mourinho is a has been.

Agree that he’s not average, that’s a tad too far, but you can’t cherry pick your points. First of all, Sterling was a much superior talent to Rashford, he started producing the goods at 17 (I think) and at 18/19 was clearly a much better player overall than Rashford. That’s an objective assessment.

Difference between Martial’s missed one on one last week was that he’d already scored and put in a MoM performance, when he got that chance in the 89’ minute or something like that. If you’ve played you know tired legs and tired minds can make you lose that extra concentration and coolness needed to bury those at the very end of games. Martial went 9 months without scoring, true, how much did he play? Rashford has played plenty without producing the goods, in Martial’s exact position.

Rashford is clearly talented, but as of now it’s all skill without proper application. He doesn’t have the cool head or understanding yet to function at the level our top performers are at now, i.e Pogba and Martial. Clearly Sanchez was much more creative as the striker today, than Rashford last week, he should watch Sanchez’ movement closely, because he can learn a lot from it.

Now, please don’t brand me a Rashford hater, because I’m far from it. I want what’s best for Manchester United, and as of now, Rashford coming on vs tired defenders is preferable to him starting.

The Martial argument from a year ago, I disagreed with it then but not with this one.
