Yeah let's ignore mins played, just stick by total stats. That should provide proper context.

There is a reason Inter fans wants him gone and regret not selling when ManUtd wanted to sign him for good money, it's that he is average and having shit season.

To be honest, you could say that same for Martial.

Martial is a confidence player, and somehow he seems to be at a low point right now. He needs to get a goal or two and then he will get going. I am also guessing Martial needs special support from the manager - but right now it’s mainly Rashford that is getting all of Ole’s love. He seems to be too sensitive to the type of support he gets, both on and off the field.

If he is completely recovered from his injury, he should be looking at himself and fighting to improve. We can’t afford to carry players with weak mentality, no matter how talented. That’s where Rashford beats him hands down.

When Rashford hit that shot across the keeper I was so desperate for Martial to be there for the rebound but he just doesn't seem to have the hunger/desire to be that man I want him to be. He seems more of a coaster

To remember some (not many) claimed he'll be a future Ballon D'Or or a new Henry.. I like him but his mentality will be his undoing if he doesn't snap out of it. Maybe he can't.

He needs to feel heat from the fans because he clearly can't generate motivation internally. Is happy to coast because things come easy to him. He'll probably go home patting himself for winning the penalty instead of kicking himself for being awful the rest of the way

Tbf Henry hadn’t achieved a great deal at the same age. He has time on his side but sometimes I wonder if he wants it enough. He could be something special if he really went for it every week.

Should have let Jose sell him.

Remember the meltdowns at the Perisic trade deal. Im betting the former would actually turn up to the game.
I was actually saying at the time that we can't go into another season relying on him to be a consistent contributor on the left.

That's exactly what we need to be doing though.

Until we get better players we need a formation that gets the best out of the only decent players we have.

We need a formation to get the best of Pogba, Rashford, Shaw, Fred possibly, Lindelof & Martial.

As I've said before - I couldn't give a toss if he went - but why is martial playing as a winger when Rashford is upfront and no RW on the other side?

Are we even good enough at heading the ball never mind our whole teams less than average ability to actually cross the ball properly.

Our attackers play too wide from each other & need to be packed centrally in my opinion - we don't have a single winger in the squad except Chong. Until that is sorted - everyone should be playing as strikers.
That's not how Ole wants to play though. He clearly has an idea how to get the most out of our best players. Martial isn't one of those players though. That's my point, Martial isn't good enough for us to change things in order to suit him.

Still think he's better suited centrally but god he was poor. Not good enough for a while now.

Barcelona 3:0 Man Utd
It's okay Tony mate, you got your new contract now so you don't need to try any more. Martial FC!

Do we think Martial is even 1% better at football than when he joined us? Genuinely curious to what people think.

His finishing was decent when he arrived, its decent now.

His dribbling was very good when he arrived, its very good now.

His decision making was poor when he arrived, its poor now.

His off-the-ball movement was non-existent when he arrived, its non-existent now.

Him losing nr. 9 affected him.
Alexis coming affected him.
Family problems affected him.

Who knows maybe one day nothing will affect him.

I remember someone saying his place is strolling about in some mid table ligue 1 team and thought that was nonsense. I've been proven wrong.

He is worse than when he first got here, and got even worse when he signed his contract. Pointless player IMO. I would say get rid, but Lingard and others are much worse.

His dribbling ha regressed, but otherwise I agree.

How much ground did he cover?

I'm tired of him. He plays with zero intensity.

The contract we gave him was ludicrous too. He can't even get past players lately.

So what does he actually do lately on the field? Nothing.

He has 1000% not improved as a player since he joined us.

He's exactly the same.

Heck, you could argue he's regressed, because I think his dribbling lately leaves a lot to be desired.

When you are Messi you don't need to play at 100% all the time to make an impact, but for most other players, the difference between being a great player and an average one is very small. Playing at 95% of your potential will have you down as an average player. That's Martial for me.

He’s extremely frustrating, but we played him wide left today while Lingard played through the middle.

Let that sink in for a minute.

To be honest, we might as well sell him if we’re not gonna play him centrally. He simply isn’t a winger.

6.5km in 65 minutes.

Nothing outrageous, but not terrible either. The team ran 106.5km collectively.

Something he's never done is make runs, off-the-ball movement hasn't really been there since he's been here. Sulky lazy player who goes through some good moments when confident. Just too inconsistent and hasn't really progressed.

He doesn't inspire others, he doesn't rise to the occasion, he has a couple good moments and is tremendously overrated.

He fits right in at Woodwards Man United.

Didn't see anything different today than any other day, or before the contract, he has never been known for his workrate or defensive game. He's been asked to drop deep today though, far deeper than Rashford on the other side, and that's why he was quiet. The only hope was for him to get the ball and show a bit of magic, which he tried, but we hardly had any time in the final third tonight.

Let's be honest it's shameful to see someone like Martial not put the work in when you've got a genuine world class like Messi giving it everything.

Don't understand how he can play in the same league as guys like Mane, Sane, Salah, Sterling, see the gains that the tempo and intensity they play at brings them and then approach football as he does. Technically he is no less talented than any of them, but hunger, desire, wanting to improve... he should be embarrassed.

Wake up Martial, your peak years are gone before you know it, the way he is going he will end up this generations Anelka or Quaresma.

Overrated by the Martial FC cult. Seem to expect Hazard/Salah level performances and yet 80% of the time we don't even get Zaha.

If he can't wake up for the CL Quarterfinals, I'm not sure if anything can do the job.

Don't worry his fan club will crawl out of their holes when he performs for a few games again. Needs a run of games to not look inept, plays 40 games a season and only shows up in half of them.

He is suppose to be faster than Rashford but never burns guys. He must be as fast as Salah and Mane, just as good at finishing, on his day dribbling but has no aggression, desire to score or take people on. What a waste of talent

It is sad, but this is pretty much it in a nutshell. No consequences for him at all.

What are we letting sink in? In what way has he earned the right to just go and play in another position? His left sided attacker position he can't even nail down and perform in. This is such a weird line of thinking. One of the easier positions to just blow the dust out and get the ball and go out guys and he can't even make that work... Yet he should move into a position with many more layers of nuance because he might be better there?

This is just weird to me.

Him, Lingard and Rashford up front are horrific just no cohesion. They all do nothing.

I rather have that lineup SAF had against Arsenal with like 8 defenders.
