Don't waste your time with that poster. Seriously. Even talking to him saps your brainpower.
Have we had a discussion?

That poster was enraged because I claimed some Martial fans seem more concerned about how well he does than the team. I don't get what there is to be so upset about.

So what changed really? A manager because of whom he had blatantly given up was supposedly about to be fired and he turned up for that game all of a sudden? Great story.
So Martial was playing badly on purpose until now?

I hope he learned from his mistake this time. Martial is the best attacker in the team and the one the team must be built around.
This right here. Everyone has constantly said we should build the team around pogba but It really should be martial. Pogba is the bigger talent but has shown far too much immaturity in games to be relied on. Both martial and pogba can be inconsistent but when it comes down to it martial always makes the right decisions in games. That is such an important aspect between winning and losing a game.

Well yeah, that's obviously part of it. Which is why I said, some people, a small minority. I have a feeling some hardcore Martial fans will suddenly be a bit easier on Mourinho if he keeps playing Martial. That's just my theory though, not a fact.
Isn’t that the idea though? To play your best attacker?

That's not what he meant. It means even if he becomes super consistent from now, he'll still have off days for people to come out and moan again.
I don't see why they would if he's consistent and only has a bad game here and there. That's never been the case though.

Just like Shaw he never got a run. Heading into the game against Newcastle he had a run of games under his belt. Even in that game he was about to get subbed off but Jose decided against it because Rashford was having an even worse game. If he had gotten subbed in that game and never got a chance to score that goal we would currently be operating under a different narrative and he may not even have started today against Chelsea. Just like Shaw his reintroduction into the team relied on fortuitous circumstances. These two players had previously performed when given a run

Well said

Happy to be Martial FC.

Always thought he had a touch of class and magic in his boots. If utilised correctly, I think he will be deadly. I'm sure he could have been better for us under Jose, but has shown good character to stick it out and come through it, despite being inexplicably cast aside for Sanchez as soon as he arrived.

You know this for sure?

It’s a crazy place this with the mental gymnastics taking place to paint everything the manager does in a negative light.

Fwiw, we were so fecking shite against Newcastle the manager would have been well within his right to sub any of the feckers. Thank feck Martial, Pogab & co. pulled their fingers out and really turned it on.

I’ve also never heard of losing 0-2 at home and players stinking the place up all over the pitch as “fortuitous circumstances” but hell, nothing amazes me here any longer.

Jose said you that?

Why is Shaws run fortuitous? Your what ifs are plucked from thin air.
Doesn't the fact Martial started the game v Newcastle tell a story?

Well if he thought he was leaving in the summer he would coast and buck his ideas up when facing a further 12 months here?
Martial was a disgrace at times last year, I'm not making anything up

Shaw's run was fortuitous because of Young being unavailable following the world cup. Too bad one can't pluck common sense from thin air. Sometimes one needs luck to get their big break. Happens in common life as well

Sounds like absolute bollox in fairness and a bizarre way to do subs.

Either way, both were wank for 50 odd minutes along with the rest of the side and deserved to be subbed off.
Whether the claim is true or false, Mourinho made the right call so there was nothing fortunate about it & Martial has rewarded the manager and himself since.

Young wasn't out for months here! He missed what? 2 games?
Pogba, Rashford and Lukaku were rushed back, Young wasn't because he trusted Shaw at LB. Thats not a coincidence.
Shaw was given a chance and he took it. Its how football works.
There's nothing lucky about it

Jose and Martial are slowly building a give and take relationship. There's no doubt in my mind that Jose has not handled Martial very well in their time together, but Martial has had to change certain things of his game to succeed with Mourinho. He is making more runs, he's more energetic, but that's not really his natural game. There are players who are incredible game players but poor trainers or not running all over the place (not saying Martial is not solid in training, I honestly don't know), and I think the biggest fault of Mourinho is to have tried to treat Martial like he would any other player instead of being able to nurture the talent while slowly integrating his ideas into the player. When Sanchez came in, he didn't bench Martial immediately and tried to play them both but it didn't work and the fault with Jose only lies in that he gave up on Martial too quickly at that point when he was one of his most productive player prior to Sanchez arriving.

You are not going to get consistent performances from most players, especially younger ones, if from there one out you only play them sporadically. Now that he's getting a run of games, and that they're realizing for better or for worse they are stuck together, I think Jose is slowly adapting to Martial and vice-versa. At least that's my optimistic view on it.

The commentary team on the day said his number was called for substitution but later changed to Rashford's. They often know the subs before its up
But he started the game! Why is he lucky to start if he was already starting?!

This is why I say you need common sense. The fortuitous circumstance I speak of in Martial's case starts from the last second decision to keep him on giving him the opportunity to score and play his way into this week's starting 11. His status as this week's hero may not have happened if that sub had taken place.

What’s lucky about deciding to keep a player on the pitch @Greck?

Why would he play into our starting 11 when he was already in our starting 11? Jose was already picking him! Especially since Rashford is now our RW.
Your argument doesn't make sense.

You're losing it. :D

Explain this @Greck
If the Newcastle performance level was so important then why would a worse performer ( your words) in Rashford actually start v Chelsea?
Wouldn't your logic dictate he would be dropped?

This is Manchester United FC, it is normal to want our wingers to play with flair and have an influence on proceedings in the final third
Since joining us, Martial has been our biggest threat to the opposition playing-in from the left.
Hope his confidence is on the rise. And wish the same for Rashford.
