Did you miss last season or something? He's absolutely capable of being that stupid and showed it less than a year ago.
I hope he learned from his mistake this time. Martial is the best attacker in the team and the one the team must be built around.

Or maybe because we almost beat Chelsea when most were expecting us to get thrashed? Dunno why anyone would moan after that.
Well yeah, that's obviously part of it. Which is why I said, some people, a small minority. I have a feeling some hardcore Martial fans will suddenly be a bit easier on Mourinho if he keeps playing Martial. That's just my theory though, not a fact.

It's almost like they can't moan about Martial so they moan about supporters not moaning its rather ironic and pathetic really dividing the fan base after a good result in a ground we've struggled.

I noticed that some of the moaners are a bit calmer after todays game. Then I remembered Martial scored twice. The reason might be that Martial FC is content.:)

What a stupid post, you think there won't have been moaning if we still lost after Martial scored 2?

It was a game of Hazard vs Martial. Two players that are simply in a league of their own. Martial won this one.

But really, there is an anti-Martial FC brigade, one that is even far more obsessive than the actual Martial FC. You get labelled a hipster or 'Martial FC' if you even remotely try to defend Martial, point out his quite obvious talent or try to reason why he's not been pulling up trees for a few months now.
They disappear when he has a good game and come out in full force when we lose, even if he was one of the better players.

If you're putting him ahead of United, then obviously you're gonna be content if he does well, even if the team lost. Maybe not ecstatic but just content. There's nothing strange about it. There are plenty of people who support players before clubs. I'm talking about a fan who will follow their player if he switches clubs and go support that club.

Think some hate the fact that he's likes so much. So they start to dislike him.

I heard that no one has scored more goals for United since he's been here in a post-game segment, which is pretty incredible considering how frozen out he was at times under Mourinho the last two years. A big feck off to the 'Martial FC this, Martial FC that' lot who would call him a nothing player and useless.

He will have a dip in form sometime soon, I'm certain of that because the team is inconsistent and he can be as well, but his starting spot shouldn't be in jeopardy because of it. You must stick with him and let him play himself into form when that happens because he makes things happen.

No other player is getting the amount of excuses Martial does. Yeah, some will be annoyed by that.

It was easier than that.

Jose didn't want Martial from the start because he isn't a player that gets the best out of a target man nor does the defensive covering of a defensive team. Went for perisic & since that failed went for Sanchez soon as he became available.

Whenever someone is not in Jose's vital books he manages to target their personality & that got some fans doing just that.

Martial FC knew that Anthony not being utilised properly was not his fault both tactically and generally.

What are you even on about? What's with the bitterness? Is the fact that people are praising Martial after a good game we drew or the that people being content we didn't lose pissing you off or something? What has all the shit you in this post got to do with this thread this evening?

Come on mate Hazard and Martial aren’t even remotely comparable yet.

I just want him to be given the chance of playing regularly even if he has a bad game hes not dropped for the next 3...

Imo hes is capable of having a Salah type season if faith is shown in him

Deserves to be given a run of games up top as a striker seeing as Lukaku is struggling so bad at the moment, he is more clinical than any other attacker we have in the side.

I just really hope we can put the Martial FC nonsense to bed this season. It's one of the more infuriating narratives that I've read on here and that's saying a lot given the weird stuff that catches on sometimes.

It’s not a narrative.
It’s a knock at those that have constantly made excuses, not at Martial.

Everyone has always known his potential. He’s shown some of it for a couple of games. That’s what people want.

Getting martials consistency is the role of the manager not his alone - no one has been consistent in our team so we make legitimate excuses for martial - a player that is too good to be shunted out by Jose. That was obviously happening.

Surely no grown-ups actually do this...

Exactly. Martial blatantly gave up trying for a few months and the excuses still kept flooding in.
We're seeing a Martial who cares at the minute, long may it continue.

I was praising him as well, and said he had a great game, just a couple of pages back.

I don't really understand what you are angry about. It's my opinion that we have a few on here who care more about Martial than the club. Like I said, it's normal to be supporting a player before a club, it's just annoying. I'm guessing some will be Mourinhos biggest fans if he keeps playing Martial, and he plays well.

Some of you lots just don't know when to give up.

Don't worry he's bound to have another quiet game somewhere(even the likes of Messi do sometimes) and you'll have your chance to jump in here again and pretend that he has no quality at all and should be shipped.

Never underestimate the power of goals on a players confience. That period after his second goal he was all over the field pressing and pushing the teams shape and that was great to see.

Apart from the two goals it was an absolute Freddy Kruger of a performance. Nothing was coming off for him linking the ball up and in the open field he gave it up over and over again. I want to see those goals though, don't care who it is. Nothing builds momentum and gets the blood flowing like a couple of goals.

Chuffed to bits for him, just a shame we couldn't get the three points to really cement that confidence.

Good post! He’s far from blameless for his many poor games, but he hasn’t had an environment or system to shine in since LVG. The fact that all he needs is a bad half before being axed for the next month seems so unfair it makes me angry, while watching Lukaku and Matic get a pass no matter what. SAF would have loved both him and Rashford I believe, and had them believing they could walk on water.

The little pass by Rashford to Martial across the box - that is something we do not do & we know that we don't practice enough.

LVG's style of play was passing & passing across the defence in to space & its something both Rashford & Martial can build an understanding of.

Martial can't be consistent because no tactics allow him to do that.

He's not too good when he doesn't apply himself though. He's too good when he does. Not much has changed other than he has.
We were told he needs a run of games. He had a run of one whole game before playing particularly well.

Surely no grown-ups actually do this...

It has nothing to do with age or maturity, I'm not a United fan, I'm a fan of French players being from the country myself. So of course I'll put Martial's well-being ahead of the club, but ideally I'd like to see both succeed. Some people prefer players to clubs, I'm one of them. Club football doesn't do much for me, not that I don't enjoy it but emotion-wise nothing beats international football or this past summer. That being said, it doesn't mean I can't try to be objective despite my bias and I acknowledge that Martial has sometimes played poorly, the only point I've ever made is that he wasn't allowed to play through his bad patches like most others have when he's clearly one of the most talented player on this team, or that his management by Mourinho when Sanchez came in was absolute shite.

And there's nothing wrong with that. It's difficult to be objective in these cases though, you have to agree with that. That's why the club fans might clash with player fans sometimes.

Thats a bit of a strange comment to come out with. Let's be honest, you make it sound like he's a pillar of consistency when that isn't the case at all.

That was my point exactly, however, I disagree about the pass from Rashford not happening often (not necessarily from Rash). It does, just seems like Martial is the only one who knows what to do in those situations. Look at every goal he’s scoret v Stoke for instance. Doesn’t seem like we practice and prepare for it though, and with as little time as Martial’s got since Sanchez arrival, it sticks out even more,

It is difficult, that's why I say I try and not just am objective, but I don't think I've ever gone over the top over Martial, because he's disappointed me at times as well, but I put the blame on Jose as well as the player, and not just solely Tony. I can completely understand the clash between fans of the player and of the club, it's also what creates more debate and therefore action on the forums (sometimes to toxic levels unfortunately), but I think I'm part of a very small minority in that regard and most of those who have been labeled as Martial FC are fans of the club first and foremost and just see a talented player there that needs to be stuck with through the inevitable dip in forms.

Don't waste your time with that poster. Seriously. Even talking to him saps your brainpower.

I think it's commendable and brave of you to be honest about it. That way it's easier to understand your point of view. Unfortunately, most don't dare to admit it. I think there are quite a few more on here tbh.

I agree about the action, it would be boring if everyone agreed. I think the Martial thread is one of the most interesting to read, because he divides opinion so much. It does get to be a bit too much sometimes though.

That's not what he meant. It means even if he becomes super consistent from now, he'll still have off days for people to come out and moan again.

Exactly. Martial blatantly gave up trying for a few months and the excuses still kept flooding in.

So what changed really? A manager because of whom he had blatantly given up was supposedly about to be fired and he turned up for that game all of a sudden? Great story.
