Quick reminder that somebody interpreted these quotes as Jose "suggesting people who think he should be starting are not real supporters"

Not so much controversial, more plain wrong like.
100% agree. It's not questioning team selection thats the issue. It's the fans that make it an 'us v them' between the two that is the issue.
The ones that sit waiting on the Player Performance threads waiting for someone to slip up so they can bump it with 'MARTIAL WOULD HAVE SCORED THAT !!!11!!!' or 'MARTIAL IS SO SHIT' or will downplay what the other has done in order to try and big up their favourite.
There's constructive criticisms to be made of both of them, and neither are the finished article, but both are having great seasons and bringing lots to the team. If your response to that is to try and vilify one of them to get your guy starting then you're a pretty shitty fan. We should just be appreciating that we've got two great talents on our hands.
ok. His strength offers many possibilities, not just 2 up top as he's showed it time and time again.Would never have got inside the box in a 4231 to win the second ball and score.
His strenghts suits 2 up top.
Good important goal today. Hoping for similar impact vs Chelsea , but he'd have to do a lot more to go past courtouis.
Praises his off the ball movement.
Very cinematic. He said to him, "they know who you are" in French.
newspaper nonsense taking a quote totally out of context. Hate this kind of sensationalist crap.Last post on the topic, this is exactly why Jose should not have said what he did. Imagine Martial reading this tomorrow.

Just the "are they red devils" part
Mou's quotes, fully transcribed:
Sometimes he starts the match and his contribution is good, maybe not scoring so many times as he is scoring coming from the bench, but he's playing well, the same as Rashford, the same as Lukaku. I really don't understand some reactions by... are they red devils? Sometimes I don't know... because they work amazingly well, and today there were two strikers playing together against three top central defenders, the best we have in Europe, and they had to do the defensive job of pressing them coming out with the ball, which they do really well. Because they have big routines of playing with three in the back. And on top of that they gave solutions to get out of the pressure, to win first balls, to win second balls, their work was amazing. Then Martial scores with a bad shot [laughs], and a bad shot can sometimes be a beautiful one.
Even Jose said it in his post match interview. Unless you know better than him too?
Read it in context mate, its more like he wants the supporters to recognise the hard work of Rashford and Lukaku, not just Martial because he popped up at the end with a goal.
I'd imagine the player is quite a bit smarter in terms of knowing how the press shit-stirs and would laugh it off.Last post on the topic, this is exactly why Jose should not have said what he did. Imagine Martial reading this tomorrow.

Reading Mourinho's comments, the main impression I get is that he wants Martial to work harder. He clearly feels that Rashford and Lukaku are better defensively, which is probably true tbh.

I would be very tempted to the 3412 and play Martial in behind Lukaku and Rashford.
Especially considering he’s in the team to do the very opposite, there’s nothing at all wrong with Martial’s defensive contribution. Literally nothing. He does his job.
I don't see how it would work, they will be trying to make similar runs and movement. If you're going to have two up top, you need an actual midfielder behind them

I think it's also his attacking work rate and pressing Mourinho wants more of.
I don't think any of them are very similar tbh. Lukaku is a penalty box striker, Martial drifts about and is probably our best technical player after Pogba. Rashford runs in behind and drifts wide stretch sides.
I think we would terrify sides on the counter.

I hope Zlatan returning to health is the catalyst to playing all 3 together.
I'll eco that.Thank god for that.
Completely agree. I came to the thread to praise his contribution, only to find more drama.Sigh, this thread is terrible. This is a moment of glory for Martial and his fans, scoring an important winner against a rival. Would have loved to celebrate here with all. But no, the fanbois still need to find a way to moan and to vitalise the atmosphere here.
Reading people's opinion here used be an important part of my football. But it has come to a point where I genuinely think I would be happier only watching the actual matches...
Defensively, if you assume behind that we have a midfield 2 of Pogba and Matic, it leaves so much for Matic to do. Pogba isn't the best defensively, and Lukaku and Zlatan don't work especially hard with their pressing and tracking of runs. I think it could be nice against teams we can bulldoze at home but against the better teams in the league it could leave us quite exposed.Lukaku
Rashford Zlatan Martial
Looks awesome
Who cares even if it was a bad shot, he won us the game.
Yep. He also suggested people who think he should be starting are not real supporters. Not even joking
That was his interpretation, Nick. He wasn't trying to stir shit up. No way.No he bloody didn't
