It was very clearly aimed at people criticising the players.

[not direct quote but]

Interviewer: that's the 4th time Martial has come on as a sub and scored, he's doing really well in that role

Jose: yes but other times he starts games and performs just as well, even if he might not score as often, just like Rashford and Lukaku, that's why I don't understand when people criticise them.

He then threw in the "are they red devils, I don't know" comment, i.e. hitting out at the people criticising the players.
I think you may be right actually. Just watched it again.

Guess that makes me a liar and a cnut

Shouldn't the mods be discouraging personal attacks and moderate this place as to posters addressing and challenging posters opinions and arguments rather than the posters themselves?

I've seen many instances of name calling in just the last 2-3 pages and that shit should be cut out already.

I think I misunderstood Jose's red devil comment. Perhaps we can all just go back to talking football? :)

It was'nt a critisim it was a obsevation and truth because it was not a perfect sweet shot, and chances are a perfect sweet shot would have been blocked.

Speaking the truth should not be considered as critisism.

I am quite sure I saw another interview from Mourinho where he mentioned that he thought Martial probably shinned it, that is what he meant when he said 'bad shot'. Not anything critical, just an offhand comment about a shot which he thought was shinned.

Defensively, if you assume behind that we have a midfield 2 of Pogba and Matic, it leaves so much for Matic to do. Pogba isn't the best defensively, and Lukaku and Zlatan don't work especially hard with their pressing and tracking of runs. I think it could be nice against teams we can bulldoze at home but against the better teams in the league it could leave us quite exposed.

Not worse than Mykytarin in there instead of Zlatan

I'd get pogba in for Zlatan but agreed. We need to get both Radford and AM into the team. Imagine if we'd done this with a young Rooney and Ronaldo. It just seems pointless to make it one or the other. The goal today showed again that Martial can play from the right. They both can.

To be fair to Jose he recognises the need for a game changer of the bench so I understand why he’s putting one on the bench but Mykytarin can become that when Zlatan is playing. That’s a big plus for City the amount of points there subs will win coming on.

--------Lukaku------Zlatan
Rasford----Pogba-----Martial
------Matic-------------Herrera/Fellaini
Rojo-------- Bailly----Jones

Imagine this against lesser teams

Hey Sunny Jim ;) would rather see

Lukaku
Martial Zlatan Rashford
Pogba Matic
Young Jones Bailley Valencia
DDG

Hey Lawman ;)
Anyhow, the prospect of Zlatan and Lukaku playing together is mouthwatering

Agree plus Pogba back will be brilliant. Great to see Jose fazing out players like Mata Herrera Blind Darmain. All good players but not title winning regulars for me (perhaps harsh on Mata).

Pogba that advanced hasn't worked even once for us, he's played badly when he's just behind the striker.

To be fair, Zlatan has had the odd stinker himself where he's played very poorly!

I only remember Pogba playing in that role away to Liverpool. Has he played there any other game?

Martial having an incredible season. Wonder if it'll be mentioned at any point by these guys?

If we keep on going with 352 it'll look more like this:

Martial Lukaku
Zlatan
Young Matic Pogba Valencia
Rojo Jones Bailly
De Gea

That's what I call class.

Bit of an overexaggeration no? He's improved from last season and seems more comfortable on the pitch but wouldn't say we're seeing much incredible yet. Not consistently anyway.

He's doing what the manager expects from him to an extremely high standard and has been a very important member of the squad, winning us games. I'd say both himself and Rashford are having very good seasons.

Good, yeah. Without meaning to be pedantic, incredible is quite a jump though. Keeps happening on here every time someone has a good game or two. Don't want to shit on Martial as he's doing alright at the mo, but there's been as many games where he's not contributed much as well.

his acceleration here is pretty good, blitzed dier like it was nothing

It was a pretty incredible burst of speed, he definitely has that in his locker. He really is very conservative with his speed, but I think he's the fastest player on the team with Rashford, but Rashford uses his pace much more than Tony.

Well the only way I can think of finishing that chance was to hit it into the ground just in front of the keeper. It was slightly scruffed but the idea and execution were good enough.

Rashford seems to be faster without the ball, with Martial being faster with it.

Did anyone else shit themselves when their bank said N/A? Or am I just that broke?

I'd say so. 6 goals, 6 assists in 601 minutes of football. Seeing as he's being sent on with 10 minutes to go and he keeps scoring or assisting every time, that's about as consistent as he can be.

Report such posts. We can't have eyes everywhere.

We are the worst to our own team. I mean, city gets less criticism than our own team. Self-reflection and constructive criticism is fine and is very healthy. But not that, that isn't even criticism. I dislike how there are now rashford fanbois and martial fanbois and pitting themselves against each other (some even have the gall to blame Mourinho because of a very very good man management tactic) when we have two of the best young forwards in the game and should treasure the selection headache. Instead they just fight over who is better rather than just be happy we have them both. Also the attacks on players, sometimes we just need to back the team when times get tough, not pile on the pressure.
Fantastic post. Agree with this.

But the usual excuses for negativity by the self-entitled fans will be if we can't disagree on a forum when can we? Or players don't read this board so it is ok? Or maybe be accused of being brainless supports taking every word and tactic of the manager as positive?

Having read through this thread I know not everyone will agree but I think he's a brilliant player. He's one of the few players in our team capable of brilliant skill and truly magic moments that get you on the edge of your seat. Coupled with a calmness in front of goal that defies his age. He could become a legend here

It is really impressive just how smooth and calm he is with handling the ball, being pressed hard and not losing it!

Oh...I agree with most of what you have said.
I don't see him being a legend, as I see him moving to another team in the next few years.
Off the bench, he is a game changer - nobody could argue against that. Yesterday was another example of this.
He is probably our most exciting player, so I can see why so many MUFC fans rate him so highly. But some who say he will win the Ballon Dor :wenger:

I think the most important thing for Martial is that he outlasts Jose. Despite delivering reasonably consistently he's clearly just not Jose's type of player. But he very much is a United type of player.

Would absolutely love to see what a proper 'development' coach would do with him. So much ability and composure.
