Martial seems like a massive confidence player. When he first arrived he was buzzing and had a brilliant start. Last season he was the main man and knew he wouldn't be ousted.

This term he's had dips in performance and been in and out of the side. It seems to have really knocked his confidence. That said he also struggled internationally when called upon. His form really took a downward spiral.

Alot has been said about issues with his partner off the pitch but one thing is certain. He needs to toughen up mentally to make it here. I really hope he does as he's a fantastic player and prospect.

His terrible cameo against Anderlecht seems to have cost him his place in the squad.

He can have no complaints. He was dreadful.

It's really clever from Mourinho. I mean, when we're inevitably down a goal it's nice to know we can call on all of Shaw, Blind and Fosu-Mensah from the bench to help us out. Having a talented attacker in the stands really sends out that message, though. Great idea.

He's probably leaving in summer.

And seeing his attitude , I don't really care anymore about his situation at the club.

Yet another post-Ferguson signing that looks like it's going to end up being a waste of money, for whatever reason. Utterly sick of it now.

Wouldn't be the first time Mourinho gets it horrendously wrong with a young forward.

Sometimes coaches just don't match up with a player, this seems to be one of those occasions.

Just look at his stats and that one time he failed when Mourinho started him for two games running. Or something like that.

Or Zlatan. But melodrama is always the way forward.

He's been shite this season though.

It was only a couple of days ago he came off the bench and he was fecking terrible.

I still think he's immensely talented and it would be insanity to get rid, but he needs to sort himself out.

Interesting and somewhat depressing situation.

I do know I value players like Martial and what they offer at their best over the type of football (including his decisions) Mourinho brings to the table.

I'd rather follow a club with players like Martial.

Why do you think he's got it wrong ? If Martial was up for it he'd clearly be starting today.

He played awful in the last game, and now he's not in the squad. I see no problem with it.

And? We don't need three defenders on the bench. This is an important part of the season and our manager seems more concerned with playing games with certain members of the squad.

Fellaini is starting today, of course, even in spite of not bothering his arse to track back the other night.

The getting it wrong will be if we see Martial leave Manchester United. The lad will go on to be top class. He displayed the talent last season.

As have many of our players. We need players like Martial in the squad to help us win games. He's actively been punished for a bad thirty minutes, something which clearly doesn't apply to other members of the squad.

Martial was awful vs Anderlecht. How could anyone have expected him to play today after that performance

There's no doubt he has the talent. Whether or not he also has the work ethic and attitude is still up for debate.

He's been bad for longer for thirty minutes. He's not played well in months.

I agree by the way about Jose having favourites like Fellaini. It's infuriating he seems immune to punishment no matter how shite he is.

Exactly, Jose's meritocracy is bullshit, just like LvG's supposed rule that everyone coming off an injury spell must play in the reserves first, unless it was one of his favourites of course.

Some of us also prefer playing an out of form striker/forward over the scenario of six fecking defensive players. Some of us are mental like that.

Nobody expected him to start. I don't think they expected him to be the only travelling member of the squad (outside of Tuanzebe) to be actively left out of the squad as punishment for a poor thirty minutes on Thursday.

Mourinho is weakening our bench to prove some sort of long term point. It's undeniable.

He should be on the bench, unless hes been rested for Thursday (which it doesn't seem he has been)

If we need attackers to come on we have Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan on the bench

And he's had good moments this calendar year. He can be an asset to us today. In the stands he can be no such thing. It's a wasted exercise in point scoring that invariably makes us less likely to win the game.

I'm talking about in training and what he has done this year.
Therein lies my point of certain players not matching up well with certain managers. Mourinho has gotten it wrong with young forwards historically. Evidence points to this being another of those cases.

since when do we judge players based on 20 mins off the bench anyways

Base it on this season then. He's hardly played well barring a few games. Fellaini shouldn't start but he must be listening to Mourinho's instruction, hence why he plays. Albeit he's not very good.

There's obviously a reason other members aren't "punished" for that. Whether you want to speculate it's because of Mourinho's vindictive nature or Martial's laziness and complacency is purely dependent on where your biases lie as there's almost no useful evidence to go off.
