He was poor against Anderlecht, but it's frustrating that yet again he seems to be treated differently to others. A bad performance and he's straight out of the team, or even the whole squad like today. Yet plenty of other players can play like dross and still keep their place.

Hope he's watching. Should be ashamed of himself. Look at Rashford, things haven't worked out for him this season because both of these players are experiencing the dreaded second season syndrome. The contrast between the two is astonishing though. If things aren't working out for Rashford he works his arse off to fix his game and improve. Rashford has evidently been working on his freekicks and crossing, for instance. He never stops running, and always makes those runs.

Martial, on the other hand...

He's got to improve his mentality, because he could become a fantastic player.

He will probably be playing with mkhi and Ibra in a 3 on Thursday, wouldn't worry too much.

Let's be honest, he was dreadful against Anderlecht. And it's not like he's been impressive the past month at all. He can't really have all that many complaints. Everyone has been dropped at some point this season from the squad. With MIki and Ibra on the bench, he wouldn't get subbed on in any situation. The message from completely dropping him is probably a bigger impact then sitting on the bench and not coming on

He doesn't put in the level of fight and determination that we're seeing from our team today.

No chance. Both Rashford and Lingard are ahead in the pecking order. Lingard has started the last six consecutive games (including today) while Rashford has started five of the last six. Martial's started once in that time with three sub appearances.

Think the West Brom game was the final straw.

I see that from different angle. Rashford is playing every game. After awful game he starts, after 3,4 bad dribbles he is not benched. Mourinho always gave him morale boost . He knows that coach believes in him so he plays with confidence.
Martial on the other hand does not have that from mourinho.

Look at this today. He had bad cameo against anderlecht and he is out of squad. In a game when we play with two strikers.
For a 20 year old kid , it must be devastating for confidence.

This is where i am on the issue.

Have you stopped to think why is it that mourinho trusts one wonderkid and doesn't trust another? Don't you think it's likely that Rashford earned that trust with hardwork? You can't demand trust without putting in the required effort

While I think Mourinho hasn't managed him well this season, Martial can learn from the intensity the team that played today showed.

As have many of our players. We need players like Martial in the squad to help us win games. He's actively been punished for a bad thirty minutes, something which clearly doesn't apply to other members of the squad.

Yeah it's blatantly obvious Jose has his favourites and those who he is way harsher on. I think his handling of Martial has been atrocious, no wonder Mourinho hasn't developed many young players over the years.

Him and Rashford as a front two?
Wouldn't be as good. Lingard's standout qualities are his work rate and his ability to make the players around him better by linking up with them well. Martial doesn't seem to have that.

What a bizarre thing to say when he started three academy products today and a fourth came off the bench.

What other top club does the in the PL?

Is this another Nani myth? Martial is not a lazy player at all just because he doesn't run like a man possessed like Lingard - on the other hand, Lingard doesn't have the quality on the ball

My view is that The Boss didn´t want anyone in the squad today that didn´t present the attitude, mental focus and even body-language required for today’s high intensity performance; hence Martial sulking attitude did not fit the bill.

Tony M will play on Thursday along with Miki and Ibra. Anderlecht need a goal and the front 3 will have rested enough to finish them off on a counter.

I think you could be right.

Jose wants men. He wants men he can depend on. Look at Rashford today, you wouldnt think he was that young. He played with hunger, desire and maturity.

From what I have seen of Martial this season, he lacks that drive.

Hopefully he gets better.

Yep seems like that

Needs to take a long look at himself. have spent the season defending him but Thursday did it for me. His work ethic needs to improve big time.

This. We needed warriors who would 'eat grass' today so to speak. Unfortunately I don't think Martial would do it.

Well that's a new expression for me

Is that something you translated word for word from Croatian per chance?

How exactly is it bizarre?

Has he developed loads of young players over the years i'm unaware of?

Also are you counting Linagrd 24 and Pogba the 24 year old we paid £90m for as young players?

No it's not. I didn't say he is lazy, but in comparison Lingard works a lot harder. And again, Lingard's movement means that he makes the players around him play better. Like Tevez used to for us. I am not saying that Lingard should forever start over Martial but if Martial doesn't buck up then I am afraid he will be replaced and rightfully so.

I think things will improve a lot next year. Second season syndrome and whatnot.

Are you forgetting Rashford? Rashford has played the most out of Mkhitaryan, Martial, Mata and Lingard this season in the PL.

So you think he just came to the club and said ok you're my favorite and you I hate you?
Or it has something to do with the things he sees in the training.

Yeah afraid to say a performance like today isn't something you could see Martial delivering for us and the problem he has is he's not so good that he can have 9 of his team mates do the graft and leave him to single handily finish teams off. No surprise he wasn't in the squad (not that he even deserved to be after Thursday anyway)

Where are these myths about Martial sulking coming from. This is such a lazy and poor argument to throw around.

Also. On developing loads of young players. Which manager has done it. Developed a 'load' of young players over the years.

Unsurprisingly, after today's result some people are feeling vindicated with Mou's handling of the boy and turn a blind eye to the obvious mismanagement of a talented player.

Must admit, I'm a big fan of Martial, but I trust Mourinho on this. Mourinho is an elite manager and key to that is his mentality, and the mentality he demands from his players - which isn't too dissimilar to Fergie's mentality. If Jose believes tough love is what Martial needs to give him a response, so be it. And if Tony doesn't rise to the challenge, then maybe it's not meant to be for him at Utd.

I'm always defending Martial but after the Anderlecht performance he deserved to be dropped. When you take the season as a whole into account then i wouldn't blame Jose if he lets him go. Martial has not shown the same fight and determination as the other players.
