How would spending close to £140m on two strikers make sense when one is going to start on the bench?
------------DDG---
---Bailly---Lindelof---Rojo---
Valencia-----------------------Perisic
---Herrera---Fabinho---Pogba---
------Morata------Belotti------

Rashford and Martial would be the back-up strikers. It's possible:drool: (though there's no way we're signing both if we're sticking to 433).

There's absolutely no chance we play like this.
Healthy competition, Morata can also play as an inside Forward. If Morata gets injured for 2-3 months, we would have Rashford or Martial up front. Thats not good enough to challenge for anything, in that time without a proper striker we could get left behind.
I highly doubt Mourinho is making Morata Spain's most expensive transfer ever to play him in a position he is fairly mediocre in. If we take your extreme logic about injuries, we should be spending huge on cover in every position.

Rashford and Martial are more than good enough to be rotational cover. Mourinho will undoubtedly see in similar light.

Instead of Belotti, we are better off investing in an attacking midfielder that can contribute to the goals and use the extra to sign a veteran #9 or keep zlatan depending on his recovery.

Rashford is a far better player than Belotti, or rather will be once he has had some time to learn the art of being a central striker.

Rashford has a relatively low ceiling right now because of his first touch. He is terribly let down by it, and unless he gets that under control, I'm not sure he can become what we'd like him to become.

He is no Chicharito with preternatural anticipation, so we can't expect him to do what Hernandez could do. Believe me, I want Rashford to make it, but right now, he is more likely to punt the ball out of bounds with that first touch, than he is to beat his man. Every once in awhile he doesn't and you catch a glimpse of what is possible, but it's getting late in his development to really get that touch issue under control. Not that he can't do it, but it's going to be hard I think.

 "relatively late in his development" that's funny.

You're going to shit yourself when you see Belotti play.

No way we're signing him and Morata. We're signing 1 x major money striker/CF and that's it.

This would be a weird move.

Fine ball control isn't something that usually develops late. It's something that develops at an early age. Reading the game, general game intelligence is what develops late. Sorry that I tend to be realistic in my appraisal. I love Rashford, I hope he proves me wrong, but his first touch his horrendous. It's incredibly heavy. That's a pretty important trait to have, or not have, and right now he doesn't have it.

I haven't seen Belotti play, so I have no place judging him. I was in this thread for the purpose of getting an idea of what people expect from him.

Anyone here of the opinion that Balotti is better than Morata? I just want to know because I haven't seen of this guy at all, and very little of Morata too... I'd be obliged if enlightened

All the briefing from Mourinho and Woodward has been about bringing in 3 or 4 players yet Miguel Delaney insists that we are after far more than that.

Belotti looks like a reasonable back-up for Rashford but at an insane price. Some of the defending in his YouTube highlights vids, has to be seen to be believed.

Do you mean Almond Biscotti??

Belotti is a better goalscorer because he has a very good goalscoring instinct; seems to be at the right place at the right time very often because he knows how to attack the space where the ball will be.

Morata is a more rounded player, has some tricks up his sleeve to beat a man, can pull off some nice passes in tight spaces.

Both are good choices, Belotti is a specialist while Morata is a jack of all trades.

Would it though

Morata
Belotti
Rashford
Rooney - still could go
Martial

Tio me thats not a bad bunch of striker to have on your books. Fergie always like to have 4 overall. I know Jose tends to play with one up top but we don't really know what kind of plans he has for the team. Rashford and Martial could again be deployed wide if and when needed.

Thanks so much mate. Just out of curiosity , who would be a perfect number 9.

I think it's a minimum requirement. It's insane the way we've gone about of lately. If you compare to Real/Barca we don't even have ONE player of their calibre up top. You fecking buy 4 amazing forwards or stay the hell out of the CL. It's that simple really. Even City can afford having unreal players on the bench but we have reduced ourselves down to having youth players as our main striker!!!!!!!

Thats because they are willing to pay someone big bucks to sit on the bench. That is not exactly in our business plan and I don't think it ever has been.

Yeah this is it. Mourinho is NOT playing a two-man strikeforce, and either Morata or Belotti would spend a lot of time on the bench which is not something theyd want and neither would we wanna spend 80m on a substitute.

Clearly if Ibra wasn't injured and we bought Griezmann we would have played both in a two man strike force. So it is not out of the question that we will next season.

Morata has experience of playing on the wing for juve and belotti also played a season and a half on the wing. If we get both, it will guarantee us goals. Both are very different from each other and will be complimentary and competitive. I do not think rashford will ever be even a 20 goal a season striker so we will need 2. I wont mind Morata and Jamez, i hope it is Morata and belotti.

With Griezmann and Rashford, I'm pretty sure he would. He even talked about playing two upfront this season, and we played a lot 4-4-2 after Zlatan's injury.

I dunno... i mean if more teams switch to 3 at the back quick transition / counterattacking football with 2 upfront becomes more likely I think...

That said 2 out of rashford, martial and mortta or belotti seems far more likely than spending circa £150m plus a feck ton of wages in both

Once we get Rooney off the books both belotti and morata's wages should be no issue. Not to mention Bastian was on huge wages also.

20 is late in development . If youre wuming at least make some real effort

Jesus wept. I hope you watched the Scotland game and ate humble pie, or you're just a wum.

Why do people think that this is still happening when we are so close to signing Moratta?

Because we need to replace Rooney and Zlatan both. Otherwise we'd arguably be worse off than before. Zlatan and Griezmann was an upgrade but just Morata in is a downgrade. And James seems to be off to PSG.

We need 2 attackers, we have lost zlatan and need to replace him. We also need another attacker on top of that. If zlatan had not got injured we would have still bought another striker.

Seems very, very unlikely that'd we'd be in for both. Rooney's not going anywhere, I do understand the logic behind replacing him and Zlatan, but it seems unlikely that we'd splurge out 140m on just strikers. I do like the look of Belotti, though, but I don't think it'll happen.

Because we are after two goalscorers?

Two pure strikers when we already have Martial and Rashford? Dont think so.

Tbf Rooney has been absent for years now. I can see us getting an attacking type player in the mold of James but not Belotti. By attacking player I mean someone like Griezman whos not a full blown striker (imo) or a winger like. I actually cant recall a time when we got two new strikers in the same window. I think Belotti was just the backup in case we didnt get Morata.

He'd be very good defensively for an attacking player, but his passing could be much better. Not sure he would be the ideal partner to Morata when the latter plays ahead of him. Seems like an expensive consolation prize to signing Griezmann.

Rooney might not be going anywhere but he's not getting any game time either, he needs replacing now. If he wants to sit on his arse for a paycheck that's his choice but his ship has sailed as far as being important for United goes. The fact is that even if we sin Morata we still haven't improved in terms of goal scoring from last season. Perisic has the second worst conversion rate for a winger in Europe so he won't solve our problem either which would mean we would need to sign another attacker at the minumum if we want to be competitive.

This one is weird considering Morata is almost done. I can see the idea behind getting two goal scorers. But they should both be playing in their best position. We can't play Morata or Belotti on the wing as it goes against the whole purpose. Shifting to 442 and 352 doesnt seem likely. What we need is a goal scorer who can can play as a no.10 or on the wing so that everyone can play in their best positions. Any of James, Sanchez, Bale, etc would be a better fit (just examples). If we end up signing both, we will have to line up like this

Belotti
Martial----Morata----Mkhi
Pogba----Herrera
Morata will play more like a secondary striker than a no.10. Not really sure if this will get the best out of him.

I keep hearing this but why? We need goals first and foremost and currently have one striker. What's the difference between us buying two strikers this year and City buying De Bruyne and Sterling a couple of years ago for £100m.

We've been moaning about a lack of goals and it's not going to come from the midfielder or defenders we buy so buying two 20+ goals a season strikers sounds like the solution to me.
