Gifted a goal at Anfield on his debut, gifted that Le Tissier goal, gifter the opened for Chelsea in a 0-5 loss. Three huge errors in four matches.

Oh, he was this bad.

The Le Tissier goal seems to happen most weeks with Onana

Firstly, the save was another questionable parry. Seondly, he needs to get up quicker and be more proactive.

Still, do you think he’s good enough?

What do you make of the save before the penalty incident?
There's nothing wrong with the save. It's right above is head from a few yards away. People keep talking like a keeper should be able to parry every shot out of danger, which is daft.

The save at the end is poor, he gets it all wrong and ultimately I don't think he matches our current needs for a keeper. He's better than a lot of people in here suggest but I said last season his shot stopping is pretty average. We also aren't really able to make much use of his on the ball ability because the team struggles to progress the ball out from the back. I wouldn't say he's actually out biggest problem though, replacing him isn't going to improve this team all that much.

The issue I have with the stuff in this thread (though it's not limited to Onana on the caf) is that a lot of people seem to let their opinion of him determine how they judge an individual situation.

He's been at the top of the ladder since about day 1 for me. He's been consistently atrocious and can't even do the very basics of a gk.
I think most of us knew he wasn't good enough pretty early on, it was just that there were bigger problems to address in the squad. But yeah, he's absolutely a top priority to replace now.

Causes us a lot of problems. He was in really good form at the start of the season aswell.

I wouldn’t class him as a top priority. The thing is if we want to become this dominant controlling team then it will restrict the amount of shots we face so Onana won’t be called into action as much. The reason his mistakes are even costing us is because we don’t have enough firepower and enough goals to out score teams so when we concede the first. We ain’t winning. If we can score 3/4 goals a game then 1 mistake won’t get talked about as we’d still win the match. We need to prioritise attack, midfielder and defence to become controlling and dominant.

Unfortunately, we can't trust him to do basic saves. The consistent padding the ball out to dangerous areas, wrong footing, not catching or lack off awareness is an issue. Keepers can make mistake but it's so frequent with him. I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, I'm done now though. I've been at games and stunned at the mistakes he's made, Nottingham Forest being the last.

It's fine making a world class saves but we need the basics. The basics with distribution too. It's really time to get rid, no keeper should be allowed to survive this.

He certainly didn’t help the constant press yesterday from Everton yesterday why is his 1st thought to go out wide with a short pass ? Any decent team passing out from the pick will pick a central pass who then picks out the wingback / rb who’s made the angle and bypassed the press. Fecking clueless he is

Watching the highlights on MOTD... Why is Onana falling over for the second goal? Why is he not just staying standing up when he pushes it away? It's not like it was struck with such force it should knock you off balance.

It's just another example of him having really weird technique

I assume we will not get rid of him in the summer because of the PSR bullshit, high book value etc.?

Good thing about the mistakes is with every mistake raises the possibility of us selling him in summer and finding a replacement. 29 in April, contract until 2028. Not saying it'll be easy to find but there should be buyer(s) for a decent fee. At least I hope so. Ajax, Inter, United. It's a good CV.

Is there an Alisson level keeper out there we can go grab? I miss having a keeper who doesn’t have a howler in there. Even prime Dave did.

Get me Edwin.

These are the things most are not getting.

He has a very wicked goal line movement and technique.

Its unfair to say he was the one to blame this game.

But he makes lots of decisions that put us in trouble regularly and unnecessary.

Also, he is awful moving up on the field, which drags the team back, and CB cant decide to push forward for the pressing.

So yes, too insecure not to be a top priority replacement.

I don't even want prime de Gea or Alisson level keeper. Give me a steady Flekken and I'm all happy and much less stressed about every shot on our goal

You must be incredibly young or just not clued up on Barthez at all.
Barthez was far superior than this clown and it’s incredible you would even try to either lower him to his level or up Onana to his.
Educate yourself.

He is Taibi level

How can ETH make so many mistakes on major signings? This clown of GK played under him and he watched him everyday. How can he comes to conclusion that he is good enough for PL? Same with Antony.
